As you start to look through the list of Ryan Murphy shows, you’ll find that there are way more than you initially thought. He’s the man behind Glee, Scream Queens, American Horror Story, and so much more. There’s simply no way that you can watch everything in a short space of time, and there are some shows just not as good as others.
How do you know if something is worth watching or skipping, though? After all, something can seem great from the premise, but then you get into two episodes and realize that it’s just not what was promised. The good news is I’ve watched the majority of his shows now, and I can tell you the ones that just don’t quite hit the mark. I have the four that you definitely want to watch, and the three that are just worth skipping.

Like so many of John Mulaney’s best bits, the story behind his distinct, sharp and formal stage attire starts with a certain Catholic lawyer named Chip Mulaney. One black coffee.
Of all the categories of celebrity performers that exist in Hollywood, there isn’t a group of public figures who are less known for their fashion sense than stand-up comedians. Anyone who has ever been to a sad, Tuesday night open mic knows that, from the biggest star to the most obscure upstart, most comics’ onstage uniform is a T-shirt ruined by pit stains, a pair of ragged jeans and a haircut that costs less than you’ll spend just to meet the two-drink minimum.
But not John Mulaney. No, the stand-up phenom and former Tumblr heartthrob is famous for dressing up for work like it’s 1965 and he just scored his first spot on Johnny Carson. Mulaney’s...

Dennis Quaid has cast doubt on the possibility of The Parent Trap ever getting a sequel. The 1998 film stars Quaid opposite the late Natasha Richardson, with Lindsay Lohan playing both of the children — Hallie Parker and Annie James — who were raised separately but are now trying to bring their parents back together. The way the film portrays family dynamics by separating identical twins at birth and never mentioning to one that they even have a twin, only to use them to reunite the parents, was viewed as controversial by many upon release. During a recent interview with Business Insider to talk about his new project, Happy Face, Quaid poured cold water on the possibility of him ever returning for a sequel to the 1998 film:
"There had been some talk, but it would be impossible to do now... No, and nobody else does. I don't think we'd have the heart for it.

Financier Jeffrey Epstein started his career as a math teacher at the elite Dalton School, and in the 1970s, he started to work at an investment bank, Bear Stearns. Epstein went on to start his firm in 1982, J. Epstein, and specifically marketed his services to those who had assets worth more than $1 billion. Veteran BBC journalist David Dimbleby interviewed Bill Clinton for TV in 2004 and enraged the former US president with questions about his denial of his affair with Monica Lewinsky.
This weekend, Dimbleby – who was for a long time the BBC’s premier broadcaster of public events including general elections and royal ceremonies – shared that he had raised the subject of oral sex with Clinton to win a bet with a friend. The broadcaster told The Times newspaper about why he had asked Clinton – who initially denied sexual relations with Lewinsky – whether oral sex did not count as sexual relations.
“That was a bet actually, the oral sex thing,” Dimbleby revealed. “A friend of mine said, ‘I bet you a bottle of champagne you won’t ask him about that.’ And I said, ‘I bet you do.’ It didn’t go down too well.”

“Not simply because of her excellent reporting, her keen sense of curiosity about all kinds of things, and her willingness to take on almost any assignment – however demanding or complex the subject – but also because Rita has always brought professionalism, clarity, and a passion for quality to every story that’s come her way.”
He added, “To call it this end of an era… barely does justice to the challenges we’ll face now that we can no longer pick up the phone and call on Rita.”

Many fans of the show have noticed that Professor Roy Hinkley (Russell Johnson) was the only reason anyone could survive on "Gilligan's Island." Not only was he able to keep a cool head in extreme situations, but he was also the only one with any kind of engineering knowhow. He was able to repair radios, examine mysterious chemicals that washed up on shore, and it was likely he who constructed the island's aqueduct system. While Mr. and Mrs. Howell (Jim Backus and Natalie Schafer) were lying around drinking mai tais and Gilligan (Bob Denver) was bumbling through life, the Professor was getting s*** done on "Gilligan's Island." The fact that he never became angry on confrontational speaks largely to the character's maturity and command largesse.
The original "Gilligan's Island" series didn't have proper closure, but some late-stage TV movie follow-ups did explore what happened to the castaways later in life.

There’s a lot to love about Cosmatos’ 1993 Western icon, Tombstone. The genre-defining drama brings everything to the table, and it does it all with skillful aplomb. It has all the action of a heart-pounding action film with the heart and soul of a frontier drama. Romance and shootouts coexist within a vivid recreation of the American West. Even now, decades after its debut, Tombstone has a chokehold on Western fans. Its sweeping visuals and all-consuming authenticity have yet to meet a worthwhile opponent.
Of course, most of Tombstone's appeal comes from its actors. The star-studded lineup is filled with “perfect matches,” and everyone fulfills their role beautifully. It’s hard to imagine anything different, but it’s easy to imagine that Tombstone is a true window to the past. Everything feels so vividly real. Every detail is precisely calculated for maximum impact, and every acting choice is driven by the utmost professionalism.

South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut was a solid hit when it came out back in the summer of 1999, raking in more than $83 million at the global box office. Pretty good for an R-rated cartoon, but not quite as good as movies like You’ve Got Mail and Stepmom.
But just think of how much money it would have made had everyone that saw the South Park movie in theaters actually bought a ticket for it.
When Bigger, Longer & Uncut was released, a lot of South Park fans under the age of 17 wanted to see the movie, but had trouble buying tickets due to the R rating, which probably wasn’t a shock to creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, considering that the inciting incident of the film’s story involves the kids sneaking into Terrance and Phillip’s R-rated Asses of Fire.

After a week of even greater political brinksmanship at home and abroad from Donald Trump, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro on Friday weaved around admitting to Bill Maher if he is running for president in 2028.

However, often channeling Barack Obama, the first-term Keystone State governor was clear that he felt Sen. Chuck Schumer and top Democrats in the Senate blew it today. The following contains light spoilers for The Electric State, on Netflix on Friday, March 14.
Directing their latest film, the Russo Bros. fall short in their attempt to capture Simon Stålenhag's dystopian science fiction book The Electric State. Despite the film's substantial budget of $320 million and an A-list cast, it fails to capture its source material's depth and complexity. With shallow writing and poor world-building, the film's Matrix-like lesson appears to be more lost than its main characters in the robot-filled desert.
The Electric State takes place in the aftermath of a robot uprising that occurred in an alternate version of the ’90s. The film stars an orphaned teenager (Millie Bobby Brown) who must cross the American West with a cartoon-inspired robot and a smuggler (Chris Pratt) while searching for her younger brother. While venturing through the Exclusion Zone, a walled-off corner of the desert where only robots reside, they...

Appearing onstage Thursday at SXSW, Michelle Obama never mentioned Donald Trump by name, but the former First Lady certainly tried to capture the tone of our times.
“We know people are going through some tough times, and I don’t think Craig and I are feeling any different than anyone out there,” Obama told the Austin audience of about 2,500 in a live recording of a new podcast series with her brother, Imo with Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson.
President Barack Obama and President Bill Clinton have been largely Awol since a retaliation-fueled Trump was sworn in January 20, so the anticipation around Obama and National Association of Basketball Coaches executive director Robinson’s podcast was high after it was unveiled this week.
The first significant public appearance by Michelle Obama, who missed both Jimmy Carter’s funeral and Trump’s inauguration, saw the ex-First Lady leaning deftly into her target market today.

With the U.S. president waging a trade war, and repeatedly threatening to annex Canada, the relationship between America and the Great White North is the worst it’s been in quite a long while — in real life, that is.
Pop culture has, on more than one occasion, mined the idea of a Canada-u.S. conflict for laughs. There was, of course, Michael Moore’s Canadian Bacon, about a president who manufactures a war with America’s Northern neighbors in order to distract from his own unpopularity.
But the go-to reference point for Canadian-American hostilities is South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut.
And now, given the current turmoil, people have been frequently referencing the movie that gave us the song “Blame Canada” — even on CNN. “It’s a South Park idea!” guest Touré said of President Trump’s threats toward Canada during a recent episode of CNN’s Table For Five.

Carl Kurlander is a screenwriter (St. Elmo’s Fire) who served as a writer-producer for four of Peter Engel’s NBC series. He also teaches at the University of Pittsburgh, where he has made a series of documentaries including the birth of educational television and how AI is poised to transform the way young people learn. He was mentored by Peter Engel, the man behind the TV fixture Saved by the Bell, who died last week. Here, Kurlander contrasts the wildly different paths taken by Engel and Fred Rogers that led each to generate programming that helped kids cope.

It may be hard for folks who weren't around at the time to understand, but there was a moment when Hugh Grant appeared poised to become one of the biggest movie stars on the planet.
Flashback to the spring of 1994. Bill Clinton was a popular U.S. President, everyone was drinking Zima, and moviegoers were flocking to cineplexes to see the British rom-com "Four Weddings and a Funeral." It was a surprise hit that picked up word-of-mouth steam via a slow roll-out from its distributor Gramercy Pictures, which was fortunate to have a great, immensely appealing film at a time when theaters were being inundated with dreck like "Major League II," "Cops and Robbersons" and "D2: The Mighty Ducks."
While "Four Weddings and a Funeral" is at heart an ensemble comedy, Grant's endearingly flappable demeanor and effortless delivery of the film's hilariously quippy dialogue had some critics comparing him to Hollywood's greatest Grant.

Brown, Chris Pratt and Stanley Tucci head the human cast of this muddled and derivative adaptation of a book by Swedish sci-fi artist Simon Stålenhag
Here is a very bland and derivative sci-fi adventure from Netflix, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, freely adapted from the illustrated YA novel by Swedish artist Simon Stålenhag. It drains away the book’s thoughtful human complexity and turns it into a laminated Spielberg/Lucas knockoff with bits of Toy Story and Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as simply too many other individual borrowings to count. I even wondered if Millie Bobby Brown’s hairstyle was supposed to make her look like Chewbacca.
It’s a kind of retro-tech romp set in an alternative-reality version of the 90s and 00s, perhaps indicating a yearning to go back to a time before social media, VR and AI ruled over us. During the Bill Clinton...

Netflix teams with Joe and Anthony Russo again for a large-scale, blockbuster-style sci-fi adventure that seems tailor-made for Imax, except you will be watching it on your couch. Hopefully your TV is really big.
With elements of 2023’s The Creator, 1986’s Short Circuit and the wondrous Wall-e among others, Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novel serves as a starting point for screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley and this humongous big-screen adaptation set, like the book, in an alternate version of the 1990s where Bill Clinton as president engages in an all-out war against a robot uprising. Humans are being attacked, but it is the robots who had all the humanity as it turns out: They lost everything and now are relegated to the sidelines in a world that once was an idyllic place for them.

On April 19, 1995, the deadliest act of domestic terrorism in U.S. history devastated the nation, claiming 168 lives—including 19 children—and injuring hundreds more. The bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building shattered families and changed America forever.
Now, 30 years later, National Geographic has unveiled the trailer and key art for its new three-part docuseries, Oklahoma City Bombing: One Day in America, a raw and unflinching account of that tragic day, told by those who lived through it. The series premieres April 2 at 8/7c on National Geographic and streams the next day on Disney+ and Hulu.

From 72 Films, the Emmy Award-winning team behind the One Day in America franchise, the series is an unprecedented moment-by-moment account of the Oklahoma City bombing, including extraordinary stories of survival, heroic rescue efforts, the nationwide search that followed, and a city’s need for justice and healing after the tragedy.

President Donald Trump’s first address to Congress of his term drew an audience larger than three of those by his predecessor, Joe Biden, but also smaller than any from Trump’s first term.
According to Nielsen, 36.63 million people watched the 100-minute speech across 15 networks. That’s about 14 percent more viewers than Biden’s final State of the Union last year (32.23 million viewers) on 14 cable and broadcast outlets.
The numbers fell short, however, of any address from Trump’s first term. His four addresses to a joint session of Congress averaged 44.3 million viewers, with a low of 37.17 million in 2020. (The first speech to Congress of an incoming president’s term is not technically a State of the Union address.)
The 15 broadcast and cable outlets airing the speech were ABC, CBS, CNN, CNNe, Fox, Fox Business, Fox News, Merit Street, MSNBC, NBC, Newsmax, Newsnation, PBS, Telemundo and Univision.

Trump’s interminable address to Congress was met with Democratic responses ranging from angry heckling, from Texas Rep. Al Green, to sober counterprogramming, from Michigan Sen. Elissa Slotkin.
The split response underscores the lack of unity among Democrats in how to respond to Trump’s destructive opening blitz. At times, the two sides seem to behave as if they are enduring different realities.

President Donald Trump addressed Congress for a very long time on Tuesday. It was the longest time ever, in fact, that a president has addressed lawmakers, breaking the record previously held by President Bill Clinton in 2000. Trump’s speech was filled with misinformation, jabs at Democrats, and, more than anything, droning campaign-style bluster as he touted what he described as his historic effort to lead the United States into a new “golden age.”

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order declaring English as the United States’ official language, the first designation of such kind in the country’s near 250-year history.
“From the founding of our Republic, English has been used as our national language. Our Nation’s historic governing documents, including the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, have all been written in English. It is therefore long past time that English is declared as the official language of the United States. A nationally designated language is at the core of a unified and cohesive society, and the United States is strengthened by a citizenry that can freely exchange ideas in one shared language,” the order reads.
The move, made Saturday, revokes a previous executive order by Bill Clinton in 2000 that aimed to improve access to services for people who had limited English proficiency. However, the newly instated policy doesn’t...

Ricky Gervais has always had a penchant for riling up trouble with his unusually dry wit, sardonic humor, and borderline-offensive jokes. His favorite venue – award shows teeming with celebrities and other notable figures, of course. Since his rise to popularity with BBC’s The Office, Gervais has never missed an opportunity to crack a joke at another’s expense.

Monica Lewinsky stated that former President Bill Clinton should have dealt with the aftermath of their affair by resigning. “When you look back once the news broke and how everything was handled by media and the White House, how do you think it should have been handled,” the podcast host Alex Cooper asked Lewinski. “Have you thought about that?”
“I think that the right way to handle a situation like that would have been to probably say it was, you know, nobody’s business and to resign, you know, or to find a way – to find a way of staying in office that was not lying and not throwing a young person who was just starting out in the world under the bus,” Lewinsky declared.

The Star Trek franchise has been clear on its politics since the beginning but the pilot episode of Star Trek: Voyager seemed to have inadvertently fumbled on what it primarily wanted to say. The pilot episode ‘Caretaker’ transported the titular Voyager into another dimension and made the ship collaborate with Maquis species.
However, the storyline of the Caretaker helping hundreds of its citizens by taking care of their needs was seen as a metaphor supporting the Republican politician Newt Gingrich’s controversial Contract with America agenda. Showrunner Jeri Taylor reportedly did not intend for it to do so.

Sometimes truth ends up being more unbelievable than fiction, and works of art that were initially planned to be satirical end up being far more resonant than they were ever intended to be. Mike Nichols’ adaptation of the political novel Primary Colors was always supposed to be a larger-than-life satire about the Presidency of Bill Clinton, but no one involved with the film could have anticipated how quickly real-life scandals would end up mirroring what they put on screen. Primary Colors is a time capsule of a different era of American politics, and gets into the unusual tactics involved in media strategy and campaigning. Although Nichols has an incredible ensemble of talented actors, Primary Colors features a scene-stealing supporting performance from Billy Bob Thornton.

The first thing you see when you walk into the foyer of Monica Lewinsky’s apartment is a neon-pink sign that reads “Always Believe That Something Wonderful Is Going to Happen.” Her Los Angeles home is sunny and bright, with books lining the shelves, smiling snapshots of family and friends, and artwork filling nearly every wall. She shows me the large, framed photograph her father took of an iceberg on a trip to Antarctica, and a small print that reads “Lovey Dovey,” which the artist Ed Ruscha made for her.

Rahm Emanuel is headed to CNN. The news network announced Thursday its hiring of the career Democrat as a senior political and global affairs commentator.
