VHS is all the rage among collectors here in 2025 – make sure to check your local Walmart for our brand new Terrifier 3 VHS release! – and the next horror movie to get a modern day VHS release is John Carpenter’s They Live, which of course originally hit VHS back in the day.

Indiewire reports that the UK company Vice Press Home Video is bringing 1988’s They Live back to VHS, the next release in a lineup from the company that recently brought films including Evil Dead II and Suspiria back to the not-quite-dead VHS format.

Two different editions will be released by Vice Press. The first, seen above, is the eye-catching “They Live, We Sleep” edition, based on the film’s hidden message imagery and spooled onto white VHS tapes. Indiewire notes in their report that five different white tapes will be sent out, featuring slogans including “Obey,” “Consume,” “Submit,” “Stay Asleep,...

Nearly every culture tells similar folk tales about creepy old hags that practice witchcraft and prey on unsuspecting children, with this irrational fear being at the heart of several real-life tragedies that ended with innocent women being put to death. That’s why I find the idea of redemptive witchcraft stories like The Good Witch and even the ultra-successful Wicked adaptation so fascinating, as despite having been commodified as one of the cutesy mascots of the Halloween season, witches are still at the heart of many of our most frightening stories.

Naturally, this also extends to horror movies, with filmmakers depicting terrifying acts of witchcraft on screen since the very dawn of the medium. And with so many creepy broom-riders out there, we’ve decided to come up with a list celebrating six of the scariest witches in film. After all, there’s a lot more to these sinister spellcasters than black cats and candy-houses.

Six-time Emmy Award nominee Idris Elbas next role could be that of Man-at-Arms in the new Amazon and Mattel Masters of the Universe movie. The Wrap reports Elba is in early talks to play the live-action version of the character, based on the classic Mattel franchise. If cast, he would join Nicholas Galitzine (He-Man), Camila Mendes (Teela), and Alison Brie (Evil-Lyn).

Travis Knight (Bumblebee) is directing the film for Amazon and Mattel from a screenplay by Chris Butler with the initial draft written by David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee. So far, plot details of Masters of the Universe have not been released, but the movie will be released in theaters exclusively on June 5, 2026. Its being produced by Escape Artists and Mattel Films.

Amazon MGM and Mattel's long-gestating live-action Masters of the Universe reboot has added another major cast member, with Alison Brie set to take on the role of the villainous Evil-Lyn.

THR reports that Brie will join the previously announced Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man, and Riverdale alum Camila Mendes as his right-hand woman and (possible) love-interest, Teela.

As her name suggests, Evil-Lyn is a wicked and powerful sorceress who serves as Skeletor's second-in-command. Lyn was played by Meg Foster in the previous live-action movie, and was voiced by Game of Thrones alum Lena Headey in Netflix's Masters of the Universe: Revelation animated series, which added some new dimensions to the character.

Brie has some experience playing a cartoonishly evil villain thanks to her Glow character's wrestling persona, Zoya "the Destroya."

Originally played by Meg Foster in the 1987 film, she's a key member of the Evil Warriors with a command over dark magic that makes the witch a consistent threat to Eternia. Brie is set to join a cast that already features The Idea of You star Nicholas Galitzine in the lead role as He-Man alongside Riverdale's Camila Mendes as the captain of the royal guard and Prince Adam's potential love interest, Teela.

The 1988 science fiction action horror will find a new home next month as They Live lands on streaming service Peacock. Loretta Swit's character, Margaret, evolved from being objectified to a symbol of female empowerment in Mash. Despite temptations to leave to join Cagney & Lacey, Swit's decision to stay until the end of Mash allowed for a complete character arc.

Like the rest of the 4077, Margaret went through an extensive personal arc in the iconic war comedy/drama. The Wind (aka The Edge of Terror) is a film with a number of genre influences and is co-written, produced and directed by Nico Mastorakis. Review: Back in 2021, I gave a glowing review to Kevin Smith’s revival of He-Man. Titled Masters of the Universe: Revelation, the Netflix original was released in two five-episode drops, both of which I loved. A blend of modern animation techniques coupled with a throwback to the Filmation style of the 1980s cartoon, Revelation was blasted online by a vocal minority who disliked Smith’s decision to “kill off” Prince Adam in the first episode and make the series centered on Teela and many of the female characters. Episode 3 of Masters of the Universe: Revolution features former Man-At-Arms Duncan (Liam Cunningham) and wizard Orko (Griffin Newman) achieving an important goal, enhancing He-Man’s Sword of Power. To do this, Duncan goes to the one person he believes can do it, a locksmith who is, “small in stature and tall on talent.”

That locksmith is a short creature named Gwildor (Ted Biaselli.)

For those not well-versed in their Masters of the Universe franchise lore, Gwildor doesn’t come from the original He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Filmation cartoon. He actually debuted in the 1987 live-action movie, Masters of the Universe, played by Billy Barty. In that film he was also a locksmith whose main purpose in the plot was as the creator of the Cosmic Key, the object used to transport He-Man and company to Earth in that film.

Alison's disappearance and the identity of "A" create fear, enemies, and gripping twists in Pretty Little Liars. Mona helps Alison disappear, showing her manipulative nature and increasing her own social status. Alison's return to Rosewood stirs up anger and uncertainty among her friends, and her relationship with Emily becomes complicated.

One of the key mysteries of Pretty Little Liars is what happened to Alison Dilaurentis (Sasha Pieterse) and why she left Rosewood in the first place. She is considered the 'Queen Bee' of her small town and is known for being a mean character who takes pride in knowing her best friends' secrets and sharing them at awkward times. In the pilot, it appears that Alison has been murdered, but when it is revealed in season 3, episode 24 "A DAngerous GAme", that this isn't true, there are questions surrounding where she has been and what she has been doing.

Dolph Lundgren just might reprise the role of He-Man in a legacy sequel if given the chance, but it would have to be with a key change with his costume.

Released in 1987, the Masters of the Universe film starred Lundgren as a live-action incarnation of the bulky superhero He-Man. As the movie was not an immediate success, it was not given an official sequel, though it has developed a large cult following in subsequent years. In a new interview with ComicBook.com, Lundgren was asked abou tthe possibility of returning as He-Man if the cult classic film finally gets a sequel. The actor isn't quite so sure, but if he does, he would have to be wearing more "layers" than he was in the original Masters of the Universe.

Kevin Smith’s Netflix animated series Masters of the Universe: Revelation was envisioned as a follow-up to the 1980s show He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and now Revelation is getting a follow-up of its own. Smith and Netflix are set to bring us the sequel series Masters of the Universe: Revolution on January 25th – and with two weeks to go until that date arrives, a full trailer for the show has arrived online! Evil is fast approaching Eternia once more. Netflix will soon release Masters of the Universe: Revolution, the sequel series to Kevin Smith's acclaimed He-Man revival Masters of the Universe: Revelation, and with it comes a vastly improved Skeletor (Mark Hamill). At the end of Revelation, he was brought into the villainous Motherboard's (Meg Foster) fold and given a technological upgrade in preparation for the ultimate battle with his old foe Adam (Chris Wood). To celebrate the show's arrival on the platform this month, Netflix shared a new poster by Nathan Baertsch featuring a menacing Skeletor looming over He-Man and his allies alongside fellow supervillains Motherboard and Hordak (Keith David).

Amazon MGM Studios is poised to swoop in and develop a live-action Masters of the Universe movie after Netflix had previously backed away from the project.

As reported by Variety, Amazon MGM is in very early talks for the rights to make the film, which is based on Mattel's famous 80s toys, after Masters of the Universe's development fell apart at Netflix over the summer. The plan is reportedly to release the film in theaters instead of straight to streaming. Netflix reportedly abandoned the project due to budgetary reasons. Adam and Aaron Nee (The Lost City), the writer-directors working on the film for Netflix, are believed to be continuing with the project, set to star Kyle Allen as Prince Adam/He-Man. Todd Black is among those attached to produce the movie.

Not only is the neon-colored villain able to grow to gigantic size, but he also transforms into a spider-like form to face the two heroes. The clip was released for the Drop 01 event where the Netflix streaming service shows off its approaching animated content. Given that He-Man is front and center in the clip, it appears that this show will keep him in the spotlight - unlike its predecessor.
