Only last month, we heard fantastic news about the long-awaited Red Sonja reboot, which is scheduled to debut later this year in the U.K., and now there’s an even better update. On Wednesday, March 26, ComicBook reported that the upcoming pic had just received its official MPA rating, confirming that it will indeed be out on screens soon. Red Sonja (2025) is rated R for “strong/bloody violence,”with the site naming Samuel Goldwyn Films, LLC as its U.S. distributor, a new development for the film. While fans in the U.K. can expect a 2025 release for Red Sonja thanks to Signature Entertainment, plans for a U.S. launch are yet to be announced. Nevertheless, Samuel Goldwyn Films President Peter Goldwyn expressed anticipation in a statement via Deadline, saying:

Aside from an initial promo image and a behind-the-scenes photo, we haven't seen very much from Millennium Films' Red Sonja reboot starring Matilda Lutz, and are still awaiting a first teaser trailer.

Deadline reports that Samuel Goldwyn Films have snagged the U.S. distribution rights to Red Sonja, with the reboot looking to hit theaters later this year. A first-look image from Red Sonja was also released, depicting Matilda Lutz in full costume, metal bikini and all.

A reboot of Red Sonja spent nearly fifteen years in development hell before going into production in 2022 with director M.J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) at the helm. Before Bassett signed on, the project had passed through the hands of directors Robert Rodriguez, Simon West, Bryan Singer, and Joey Soloway, with Hannah John-Kamen, Rose McGowan, and Amber Heard being considered for the lead role. Matilda Lutz ended up starring in the film, and while we still don’t know when we’ll get to see her version of the title character in action, the long-delayed movie has taken a step forward, earning its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board! Madelaine Petsch has now unveiled a chilling glimpse of the next installment in The Strangers saga. The actress, who will reprise the role of Maya Lucas from Strangers: Chapter 1, took to social media to share a release date and first image of the sequel, The Strangers: Chapter 2. Well, that didn’t take long. Just days after Saw XI‘s screenwriter Patrick Melton confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter there’s trouble brewing behind the scenes, Lionsgate has removed the upcoming addition to the Saw franchise from its 2025 calendar. The vacated September 26, 2025 spot will now be occupied by The Strangers – Chapter 2.

“We haven’t heard anything since May,” stated Melton in an interview with THR. “It’s stalled at a managerial level. It has nothing to do with the creative or anything else. There’s higher-level things at play.”

Jigsaw won’t be returning to theaters in 2025 after all.

“Saw XI” has been axed from the release calendar. Lionsgate’s gory slasher, the 11th installment in the long-running franchise, was scheduled to open on Sept. 26, 2025. The studio will instead release another blood-soaked horror film, “The Strangers – Chapter 2,” on the newly freed date.

It’s not clear if Lionsgate has plans to unveil “Saw XI” at any point. The studio greenlit the sequel in 2023 with franchise veteran Kevin Greutert on board to direct. Yet the film’s screenwriters Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan recently told the Hollywood Reporter that “zero progress” had been made since they turned in a draft in the spring of 2024.

Billy the Puppet, the ventriloquist dummy used by John “Jigsaw” Kramer in “Saw,” is apparently well versed in these reports, which he dismisses as idle chatter. The spooky doll promises he’ll eventually return to theaters.

Lionsgate’s The Strangers: Chapter 2 will open in theaters on Sept. 26, 2025.

The Hollywood Reporter can exclusively report that the planned sequel in the horror franchise, which had been slated to hit theaters on Sept. 26, has been removed from that date. Power Book II: Ghost season four powered its way to a new viewership record on Starz. The network reports that the critically acclaimed drama averaged 10.5 million multiple-platform viewers 90 days post-premiere. In addition, season four episode eight showed a 6% increase over episode seven and took the #1 spot among cable programs in Black households in four major cities.

The season’s final two episodes will air on September 27th and October 4th.

The final season of Power Book II: Ghost will go down as the most watched show ever on Starz.

The drama, which is headed toward its series finale on Oct. 4, is averaging 10.5 million viewers across all platforms, measured for 90 days post-premiere. (Several years ago, Starz noted that season five of Ghost’s predecessor, Power, averaged 10.8 million viewers, but over a longer span of time than 90 days.)

The Power franchise, which encompasses four series, has set a number of ratings records for Starz. The flagship series displaced Spartacus as Starz’s most watched show at the time back in 2015 and continued to roll up big audiences over the course of its run. Ghost, Book III: Raising Kanan and Book IV: Force — which notched the biggest opening weekend for any series premiere in the channel’s history — have also pulled in strong viewing numbers over their runs.

Power Book II: Ghost has scored a record audience at Starz ahead of the anticipated Season 4 finale.

The new season is averaging 10.5M multi-platform viewers per episode in the first 90 days since Season 4 premiered, according to data from the network. That’s an all-time high for the series.

Episode 8, which aired on September 20, delivered 6% audience growth week-over-week in the three days post-premiere, Starz said.

The series continues to index well with Black households, as Episode 8 was the top cable program among the demographic in key markets like Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Chicago and Los Angeles.

In fact, Season 4 Part 1 and 2 both debuted as the highest-rated cable program among Black households in their respective premiere weekends.

To date, the Power universe has amassed 1.6B hours watched, Starz said.

It’s the beginning of the end for Season 4, with the two-part finale kicking off September 27 at midnight Et on the Starz app and via linear at 8 p.
