Elsbeth Season 2, Episode 15 introduces a plethora of guest stars, such as Jill Eikenberry, Tracey Ulman, and Max Jenkins, as the CBS series enters its stretch run. 

The new episode of the CBS crime drama series, "I See... Murder," sees Elsbeth and newly-promoted Detective Kaya Blanke investigate the death of a wealthy businessman who was shot in the chest with an arrow. 

Elsbeth believes that the professional psychic who is close to the businessman's rich stepmother may be the culprit.

Throughout the entire eight-decade history of the Golden Globes, two TV shows have received a record-high eight nominations in a single year: “The Thorn Birds” at the 1984 ceremony and “L.A Law” at the 1990 gala (it went home empty-handed that year). Now the final season of “Succession” is hoping to match that nominations record — or even beat it — at the upcoming 2024 Golden Globes.

Gold Derby currently predicts that HBO’s dearly departed family show will easily score six Golden Globe noms. Drama series, drama actress Sarah Snook, drama actors Kieran Culkin, Jeremy Strong and Brian Cox, and supporting actor Matthew Macfadyen all seem to be givens. A seventh bid is on the bubble for supporting actor Alan Ruck. That means if any of the potential dark horse candidates also get in, “Succession” would enter the history books. Hulu has announced that all eight seasons of the ’80s courtroom classic will be available to stream on the service beginning Nov. 3 — and there will be a notable asterisk attached: All 172 episodes have been newly remastered in HD with 16:9 aspect ratio from the original film source. Classic ’80s legal drama “L.A. Law” is coming to Hulu — with an upgrade.

All eight seasons of the show, comprising 172 episodes total, have been newly remastered by Disney in HD with 16:9 aspect ratio from the original film source for streaming on Hulu. “L.A. Law” will be available on Hulu starting Nov. 3. According to Hulu, all original commercial licensed music was kept intact and also upgraded.

Hulu, which is majority owned by Disney, does not have exclusive streaming rights to “L.A. Law”; the eight seasons of the show also are currently available on Amazon’s Prime Video.

“L.A. Law” originally aired from 1986-1994 on NBC. The film from MGM’s Orion Pictures is based on the true story of a Florida reform school that damaged the lives of thousands of children over more than a century. Its protagonist is Elwood Curtis, a Black boy growing up in 1960s Tallahassee who is unfairly sentenced to a juvenile reformatory called the Nickel Academy, then finding himself trapped in a grotesque chamber of horrors.

Tennie will play Griff, a student boxer at Nickel Academy. He joins an ensemble including Aunjanue Ellis, Ethan Herisse, Brandon Wilson, Hamish Linklater and Fred Hechinger. Ross and Louverture Films’ Joslyn Barnes adapted the screenplay. Plan B Entertainment, Anonymous Content and Barnes are producing, with Whitehead serving as exec producer.

For the second time, “The Crown” will field two drama actress contenders: Imelda Staunton and Elizabeth Debicki, who take over the roles of Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana, respectively, in the upcoming fifth season, premiering on Nov. 9. Staunton is odds-on favorite at the moment to win the Best TV Drama Actress Golden Globe, while Debicki is third place. And a win for either would extend “The Crown’s” own record as the show with the most different winners in the category to four.

The Netflix hit’s previous drama actress champs were Claire Foy (2017), Olivia Colman (2020) and Emma Corrin (2021). “A storybook tale of corporate law offices in the City of Angels” is how The Hollywood Reporter described Steven Bochco’s new NBC drama series, L.A. Law, in October 1986.

The show, which centered on the lives of the partners, associates and staff of a fictional Los Angeles law firm, was co-created by Bochco and Terry Louise Fisher, a former L.A. County prosecutor who had served as a writer and producer on Cagney & Lacey. Bochco had already created a hit for NBC in Hill Street Blues, which won four consecutive drama series Emmys, and his success would continue with L.A. Law. In 1987, the show took home five Emmys for its debut season, including outstanding drama series. L.A. Stabler is getting a visit from his old boss: Former Law & Order: Svu cast member Dann Florek will guest-star as Captain Donald Cragen on the spinoff Organized Crime, TVLine has confirmed.

In the April 7 episode, “when Donnelly’s (Denis Leary) version of events don’t match up to what Stabler remembers about his father’s heroic rescue on the job, Stabler turns to his friend and mentor Donald Cragen for help sorting out the truths from the lies,” per the official synopsis.

Exclusive: Jill Eikenberry is set to guest star in ABC drama pilot L.A. Law, a revival of the iconic Steven Bochco legal drama, reprising her role as Ann Kelsey. Eikenberry starred on all eight seasons of the original NBC series as Kelsey, Associate/Partner in the firm. In the pilot, Eikenberry’s Kelsey is now a judge.

In the revival written by Marc Guggenheim and Ubah Mohamed and to be directed by Anthony Hemingway, the venerable law firm of McKenzie Brackman — now named Becker Rollins — reinvents itself as a litigation firm specializing in only the most high-profile, boundary-pushing and incendiary cases.

The pilot stars Blair Underwood and Corbin Bernsen, who are reprising their respective roles as Jonathan Rollins and Arnie Becker, as well as fellow new series regulars Hari Nef, Toks Olagundoye, Ian Duff, John Harlan Kim, Kacey Rohl and Juliana Harkavy.

Exclusive: As it approaches the launch of its free, ad-supported streaming service, Chicken Soup for the Soul has set content deals with Kin and Reel One Entertainment and lined up a slate of originals.

The service is joining the portfolio of its namesake parent, Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment, which also runs Crackle, Popcornflix and other services. Chicken Soup for the Soul is already available as a free, ad-supported television channel on Plex, FreeCast, Redbox, LG Channels, Stirr, Xumo and Vizio. The full AVOD version, with thousands of on-demand hours of programming, will go live during this quarter.

Kin makes lifetyle shows with talent including Tia Mowry, Adrienne Bailon Houghton, Jeannie Mai, Malika and Khadijah Haqq and Angela Simmons. In addition to circulating on social platforms, they are syndicated to linear broadcast and streaming. One example is cooking show Comfort Kitchen, hosted by Mowry.

Reel One Entertainment specializes in scripted dramas and will also be providing original movies for Chicken Soup. Plans call for one Reel One original to be released each month. Titles in the works include For the Love of Chocolate, Love Afloat, A Priceless Love, A Slice of Chicago Romance, Love for Starters, A Bouquet of Love, Love Map, A Snapshot of Forever, Love Amongst the Stars, The Beauty of Love, Love at the Ranch, and Love in Full Swing. Tom Berry, CEO of Reel One Entertainment, said Chicken Soup’s “vibrantly loyal audience is a perfect fit for the fun and romantic themes our titles will represent.”

Also premiering on Chicken Soup for the Soul will be its latest original, Smart Home Nation. The show is produced by Efran Films in association with Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment and Parkside Entertainment, and hosted by Tanya Memme. Other originals planned for the new AVOD service’s slate include Hidden Heroes, Animal Tales, The New Americans, Project Dad, and Going From Broke. Ashton Kutcher is an executive producer of Going from Broke, which has previously been a big draw on Crackle, according to the company.

“When planning the launch of the Chicken Soup for the Soul AVOD streaming service, we set the bar very high,” said Jeff Meier, head of programming for Crackle Plus, ‘We’ve exceeded our own expectations and are excited to be launching with a robust slate that features lifestyle TV staples, fan-favorite personalities, and engaging movies and originals our target audience will be sure to love.”

The service will also offer classic series and movies from the Sonar library. Titles in that vault include Mothers and Daughters, with Susan Sarandon, Sharon Stone, Courteney Cox, Christina Ricci, Selma Blair and Mira Sorvino; Morning Glory, with Christopher Reeve and Deborah Raffin; and My Boyfriend’s Back, with Sandy Duncan, Jill Eikenberry and Judith Light. The Sonar library came to Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment via the acquisition of Sonar Entertainment last year. In all, Sonar has 1,400 hours of programming, across 600 titles with 268 Emmy and 16 Golden Globe wins among them.

Philippe Guelton, president of Crackle Plus, said last November’s launch of the Chicken Soup for the Soul Fast channel started a number of integration efforts. “We’re launching a branded Chicken Soup ‘tray’ on Crackle, to give fans easy access to the content as it rolls out wide with additional partners over the next few months,” he said.

Dorothea G. Petrie, who won Emmys for producing “Love Is Never Silent” and ‘Caroline?,” died peacefully at her home in Los Angeles on Tuesday, her family announced. She was 95.

Petrie began her career in New York as an actress and talent agent before putting it on hold to raise four children. She ended her hiatus in 1979 by writing the story for, and producing, the CBS film “Orphan Train,” starring Jill Eikenberry. She went on to produce “Angel Dusted” starring Jean Stapleton for NBC, “License to Kill” with Denzel Washington for CBS and “Picking Up the Pieces” starring Margot Kidder for CBS.

In 1986, she won an Emmy for producing NBC’s Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation “Love is Never Silent,” which also won an Emmy for director Joseph Sargent and nominations for stars Mare Winningham and Phillis Frelich. Petrie next produced “Foxfire,” the eight-time Emmy nominated film for Hallmark and CBS.

“Killing Eve” made a killing with Tuesday’s Primetime Emmy Awards nominations with nine total. Two of those are for Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer in Best Drama Actress, marking the first time since 2002 that a show produced double nominations in the category.

Oh, who last year became the first nominee of Asian descent in the category, and Comer are up against Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”), Viola Davis (“How to Get Away with Murder”), Laura Linney (“Ozark”) and Mandy Moore (“This Is Us”).

Best Drama Actress is one of the most competitive Emmy categories this year, and it could be especially rare depending on who makes the cut. It’s possible that all of the nominees will come from shows up for Best Drama Series. This has happened only three times before: 1980, 1986 and 1987. As of this writing our racetrack odds for Drama Actress and Drama Series don’t line up that way. But it would only take one or two surprises to bring the two categories into alignment.

The projected Drama Series nominees based on our odds are “The Americans,” “The Crown,” “Game of Thrones,” “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Stranger Things,” “This Is Us” and “Westworld.” Those seven have been the consensus picks since our predictions center opened this past spring, and six of those series had lead actresses in our predicted Drama Actress lineup up until late June.

Robert Rorke (New York Post) and Glenn Whipp (Los Angeles Times) are predicting nominations for Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer in the tough-as-nails category. A five-time nominee for her supporting role on “Grey’s Anatomy,” Oh has risen to sixth place in our odds within the past month on the heels of “Killing Eve’s” escalating buzz and the show’s leading five Television Critics Association Awards nominations. The Fox building where the late producer Steven Bocho made television magic with such hit shows as Doogie Howser, M.D. and NYPD Blue has been dedicated to his name. It will henceforth be known as the Steven Bochco Building, with a plaque bearing his trademark signature greeting visitors at its entrance.

On hand to celebrate the dedication were a collection of stars that made those shows sizzle, including Dennis Franz and Kim Delaney of NYPD Blue; Jimmy Smits, Corbin Bernsen, Michael Tucker, Jill Eikenberry and Susan Ruttan of L.A. Law; and James Sikking and Belinda Montgomery of Doogie Howser, M.D.

The ceremony was led by Fox Television Group chairman and CEO Gary Newman, who was joined by Bochco’s wife, Dayna. Bochco died last month at age 74 after a struggle with cancer.

On a sunny weekend afternoon, the Fox lot was quiet except for the group that gathered to dedicate Building 1 to the writer-producer-showrunner who occupied it for the last few decades: Steven Bochco. The building now bears his name and a plaque with his distinct signature, which was also used as his production card on his television shows.

Last year, I talked about how it was Amazon’s big year of becoming a serious production house by buying a lot of serious movies. But there was something missing in that award-gathering arsenal: namely women. Contrary to their namesake, Amazon had spent much of their multi-level spying money on putting beefcake after beefcake onto the big screen. But times look to be a changing, as Amazon has announced signing on Brie Larson to both produce and star in a movie about Victoria Woodhull with a script penned by Ben Kopit, mostly known for having written some Brett Ratner movie that’s still in production. Woodhull, however, is known to most as the first woman to run for president, her 1872 candidacy for the office predating the Nineteenth Amendment to the Constitution by over thirty years.

The alcoholic in cinema is larger in life because it is a societal reflection of the demons and destruction that affect millions of people globally. Film allows for the liberty to use creative licenses to highlight the physical and psychological pain and false feelings of pleasure to convey the true face of alcoholism and its hold on fictional characterizations that are bound by the poisonous allure of the bottle. To mark the release of the first season of La Law on DVD, the La Times talked to some of the stars of the landmark legal series -- Harry Hamlin (handsome attorney Michael Kuzak), Corbin Bernsen (vain divorce lawyer Arnie Becker), Jill Eikenberry (idealistic attorney Ann Kelsey), Jimmy Smits (passionate lawyer Victor Sifuentes), and Alan Rachins (obnoxious firm partner Douglas Brackman Jr.).

The show ran for eight seasons and 172 episodes on NBC, from 1986 until 1994. While the ratings had dropped quite a bit before the end, the series finale drew 22 million viewers on May 19, 1994.

The peacock network aired a reunion on May 12, 2002 -- La Law: The Movie -- which brought back many of the original castmembers. It attracted nearly 12 million viewers.
