Elizabeth Fowler (“Devil’s Knot”) and Claudia Bluemhuber (“The Host”) are set to produce a film about the rescue of Jessica Buchanan in Somalia last year.
The pair have acquired the film rights to Buchanan's book "Impossible Odds" published last month, as well as the life rights to her and her husband Erik Landemalm.
Administering humanitarian aid in East Africa, Buchanan and Danish citizen Poul Hagen Thisted were kidnapped in October 2011 by a band of Somalia land pirates.
Buchanan fought to stay alive as her husband worked with the FBI and U.S. military. A Navy Seal Team attacked the pirates’ compound and successfully rescued Buchanan and Thisted.
Anthony Flacco, who co-wrote the book, will pen the screenplay. Sharlene Martin will also produce.
