Set in a storybook Connecticut town populated by an eclectic mix of dreamers, artists and everyday folk, this multigenerational drama about family and friendship centers around Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter, Rory. Lorelai owns the town's bed-and-breakfast, the Dragonfly Inn, with best friend/chef Sookie, and contends with weekly dinners with eccentric, well-off parents Richard and Emily Gilmore (who always have something to say about their daughter's life). After high school, Rory attends Yale University but frequently returns to Stars Hollow to visit her mom.

Although Gilmore Girls has a devout fan base, even the show’s most ardent defenders can name a few storylines that truly went nowhere. The cast of Gilmore Girls had plenty of chances to show off their acting chops in the series. However, for every instance of the cult show making the most of a guest star, there were as many cases of Gilmore Girls wasting intriguing characters and setups. Lorelai’s Gilmore Girls love interest Jason “Digger” Stiles prompted viewers to wonder if she should end up with a flighty motor mouth like herself, rather than the stoic Luke.

Gilmore Girls has many fun best-friend characters, from Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Sookie (Melissa McCarthy) to Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Lane (Keiko Agena). In many ways, Lorelai and Rory even fit this dynamic, though as mother and daughter, their unique relationship certainly qualifies as something more. However, among all the friendships explored in the series, the relationship between Rory and Paris (Liza Weil) will always be top-tier. Rory doesn't refer to Paris as her best friend (though Paris says it about Rory), yet over the show's seven seasons, they come to rely on each other.

The series Gilmore Girls just got another streaming home, this time landing on Hulu, which means even more people can binge the beloved series. While the show is filled with sharp, quirky, and funny characters, Melissa McCarthy's portrayal of the quirky and passionate chef and Lorelei's (Lauren Graham) best friend and business partner, Sookie St. James is the best Gilmore Girls character. Audiences weren’t totally aware of McCarthy’s genius comedic timing yet, but this role let her put it on full display, easily becoming one of the funniest characters of the series. Even with casting one of the funniest humans on the planet to play Sookie, there was so much more that made her a fully formed character that audiences still love to this day.

While A Year in the Life undoubtedly had its flaws, Netflix’s 2016 Gilmore Girls revival also offered one of the show’s best moments in its final episode. To say that 2016’s Gilmore Girls revival A Year in the Life was met with mixed reviews would be putting it mildly. Fans and reviewers alike had waited almost a decade to see more from Gilmore Girls’ cast of characters and everyone had a fan-favourite who they hoped would get sufficient screen time. The Gilmore Girls revival barely including Sookie and Dean alone was enough to anger some viewers.

True Blood quickly became one of the biggest TV shows of the noughties when it premiered in 2008.
The horror-themed TV series, which was based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries series by Charlaine Harris, debuted on HBO in September of that year and ran through August 2014 across seven seasons and 80 episodes.
The series centers around Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress living in Louisiana, and the emergence of vampires thanks to a synthetic blood product called “Tru Blood,” which allows them to come out of their coffins and integrate into society. The series follows the vampires’ fight for equality amid anti-vampire sentiments, as Sookie falls in love with vampire Bill Compton.
The show won both a Golden Globe and an Emmy, and its stars have since gone on to accomplish major things in their careers, earning a significant amount of money and acclaim.

While Gilmore Girls had its dramatic moments, the dramedy also had some truly laugh-out-loud funny episodes in its original run. The cast of Gilmore Girls were perpetually falling in and out of love, so, although the show maintained a fairly low-key tone throughout, there was never any lack of drama. Admittedly, the series was hardly a soap opera, and it is no surprise that actor Milo Ventimiglia’s suggestion that his character should be brutally killed off was ignored by the showrunners. However, whether it was Luke’s secret daughter or Rory’s choice of college, there was plenty of conflict in Stars Hollow.

For years, it's been something of a joke or a trend or really a cultural phenomenon that Gilmore Girls is a "fall show." There's something inherently autumnal about The WB/CW series, and that likely has everything to do with Lorelai and Rory's quaint and quirky small hometown of Stars Hollow, Connecticut looking like ever the picture-perfect pumpkin spice locale.
However, The Hollywood Reporter crunched the numbers and ran the data to get to the bottom of the annual push of Gilmore-centric content.

Both Rory and her mother, Lorelai, have several relationships over the series' seven seasons. Lorelai has a few significant relationships, and a few that were a terrible idea from the very start.

Despite the time that's passed by since the show's ending, Gilmore Girls remains a compelling viewing experience. However, re-watching the first season after two decades has revealed some quite upsetting truths about the show. Gilmore Girls debuted 24 years ago, and stole the hearts of its viewers with its quick-witted dialogue and heartwarmingly relatable character dynamics.
However, not every aspect of Gilmore Girls has stood the test of time. Society has progressed rapidly since the year 2000, and so has the show itself. The twists and turns of Gilmore Girls concluded storyline, along with a drastically changed societal perspective, means that season 1 of the comedy-drama sometimes breaks the viewer out of an autumnal daydream, and instead brings a harsh reality.

The Vampire Diaries may have come at the tail end of the vampire craze, but it essentially redefined the genre for many YA audiences. It took the teen passion that Twilight gifted audiences and gave it teeth. Following the typical human girl at a typical human high school, Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) becomes the object of the affection of not one vampire but two. Whether fans were Team Stefan (Paul Wesley) or Team Damon (Ian Somerhalder), the series offered juicy plotlines for both. The love triangle fueled the horror elements until the last season, but it was in no way the only game in town.
Around the same time, on a premium network, there was a better vampire love triangle. In 2008, HBO premiered the adaptation of Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire series. Cleverly entitled True Blood, the series follows a human-adjacent character and her love for two vampires. While Sookie's...

Gilmore Girls is one of the funniest TV series of the 2000s. Yes, the show has its dramatic, melancholic, and down-right heartbreaking moments, but it always manages to mix it up with plenty of humor. From bittersweet episodes to dark comedy to hilarious and lighthearted moments, Gilmore Girls always makes the best jokes. This is arguably its most attractive attribute.
Of course, this is all thanks to actresses like Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, and Kelly Bishop. Their chemistry, fast-paced dialogue and amazing delivery keep the audience both amused and delighted. Starting the show as the eccentric produce guy for the Independence Inn, and eventually creating the perfect relationship with Sookie St. James, Jackson Belleville is an amazing Gilmore Girls character that fans of the show tend to overlook. Portrayed by Jackson Douglas, Jackson appears in 57 episodes out of the 153, more than more popular characters like Jess Mariano, one of Rory's most beloved boyfriends, with 39 episodes, or Christopher Hayden, Rory's father, with 38.
Of course, Jackson's relevance in the main storyline isn't as impactful, but he's a wholesome, funny, and lovely goof who made for an excellent friend and husband. His intense love of vegetables, fascinating creativity, and loving nature toward his wife and kids turned him into one of the loveliest characters on television.

Gilmore Girls, starring Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, remains a beloved show nearly a quarter-century after its premiere, largely due to the colorful townsfolk of Stars Hollow. The small-town, down-to-earth attitudes of supporting characters like Luke, Sookie, and Kirk are balanced out by the opulence and worldly ideals of Lorelais parents, Emily and Richard Gilmore.
With such a stark dichotomy between the elder Gilmores and the charm of the rest of the Stars Hollow characters, it would be easy for fans to dislike Richard and Emily. However, Kelly Bishop brings Emily Gilmore to life in such a way that many Gilmore Girls fans love the character, even if some aspects of her character should make her one of the least-liked people in the Amy Sherman-Palladino show.

Although the ending of the Gilmore Girls revival might have seemed utterly unprecedented, one major Rory twist had its roots as far back as season 1 of the cult hit. Gilmore Girls ran from 2000 until 2007, with the shows single-season revival arriving on Netflix in 2016. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life was met with mixed reviews by both fans and critics, with many complaining that the follow-up failed to replicate the unique tone of the comedy-dramas original run. It didnt help that Dean and Sookie barely appear in A Year in the Life.

True Blood chose to underwhelm fans by having Sookie end up with a nameless, faceless everyman instead of one of the supernatural suitors she was involved with throughout the series. Bill's influence and desire for Sookie to have a normal life played a significant role in her final decision, despite it being a choice dictated by him rather than one Sookie made for herself. The show attempted to wrap up the story by showing Sookie living a normal life with her faceless husband, but this ending felt unsatisfying and robbed Sookie of her agency.
During its seven-season run, HBO's horror series True Blood treated fans to a love triangle between half-fairy Sookie Stackhouse and the vampires Bill Compton and Eric Northman. They even threw in werewolf Alcide Herveaux for good measure. Despite how heavily the show focused on these supernatural romances, Sookie didn't end up with Bill, Eric, or Alcide...

It’s rare for a series to start brilliantly, continue on that trajectory, and then stick the landing.
It’s why you typically hear those same TV series when people talk about the greatest of all time.
Breaking Bad, The Wire, The Sopranos, Seinfeld, and Mad Men — these series stayed consistent and kept audiences engrossed from start to finish.
(Will Hart/NBC)
Unfortunately, that’s not always the case across the board.
More than likely, a series never finds its footing or lives up to its potential. Or it’s inconsistent at best, with a sluggish start and better finish.
And sometimes a show starts wonderfully, with acclaim and devotion from fans, only to stumble somewhere along the way and never truly recover.

Set in the 1990s, The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires brings a twist to the Southern horror sub-genre that's reminiscent of True Blood. HBO is in the process of developing a TV series based on Grady Hendrix's The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires novel. While Hendrix's book is a fresh take on vampire lore, HBO's track record suggests that the adaptation will be a fitting successor to the iconic True Blood.
Ten years after True Blood came to an end, I can finally celebrate HBO's announcement that the perfect vampire replacement is in the works: an adaptation of The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires. Joe Manganiello is sharing why he thinks the cast of True Blood was way too “overqualified” to be starring in the hit drama fantasy series.
On a recent episode of Podcrushed, with hosts Penn Badgley, Nava Kavelin and Sophie Ansari, the actor, who played Alcide Herveaux, looked back at the “really wild, crazy, intelligent” show that “pushed the culture forward at the time,” as he described it. However, he noted that the series cast actors with extensive résumés.
“What’s funny about True Blood was, you know, we were all really, really overqualified,” Manganiello admitted. “Well, I should say the material was deceptively tricky because it was kind of written in like Tennessee Williams. It was very operatic at times.”
He continued, “But, you know, but it’s all theater kids. It’s like people with Tonys and Oscars and, you know, Mike McMillan and I were the Carnegie Mellon kids,...

During its run on The WB (and The CW) from 2000-2007, "Gilmore Girls" emerged as one of TV's most beloved teen drama shows, eventually finding a second life on Netflix. It was lauded for its rapid-fire banter laden with pop culture references, its quaint New England charm, and its quirky characters. All of this was held together by the unshakeable bond between Lorelai and Rory Gilmore — more like the best of friends than mother and daughter.
Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, "Gilmore Girls" has since become the ultimate cozy watch, especially during Pumpkin Spice Latte season. The series takes us through Ivy League ambitions, boyfriend troubles, and some of the greatest will-they-or-won't-they? romantic tension of all time, between the bubbly, perpetually-caffeinated Lorelai and grumpy diner owner Luke Danes.
But, "Oy with the poodles already!" If you're reading this list, you already know what "Gilmore Girls" is all about, so let's start ranking the seasons.

Unfrosted showcases Melissa McCarthy's comedic talents through her passionate portrayal of Stan, a chef scientist with a love for food and science. McCarthy's performance in Unfrosted ignites a desire for her return as Sookie St. James in a possible Gilmore Girls sequel, due to her shared quirkiness and love for food with Stan. Sookie's absence in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life is felt, but McCarthy's role in Unfrosted solidifies her iconic portrayal of a chef character once again.

True Blood was an HBO fantasy TV series that debuted in 2008. The show was based on The Southern Vampire Mysteries book series by Charlaine Harris. It followed Sookie Stackhouse, a waitress with telepathic abilities. True Blood starred Anna Paquin as Sookie and Stephen Moyer as the vampire Bill Compton, Sookie's love interest. Yet many other actors were also part of True Blood's cast for a while.
True Blood introduced several new characters and supernatural beings with each season. This allowed for several actors to have guest-starring roles in the series. Some actors joined True Blood playing a recurring character, while others appeared in the series for a single episode. Many might not remember every actor who appeared in True Blood, from Breaking Bad's Dean Norris to Law & Order's Christopher Meloni.

Created by Alan Ball and inspired by The Southern Vampire Mysteries, a series of novels by Charlaine Harris, the TV series True Blood ran on HBO for seven seasons, from 2008 to 2014, ending up with a total of 80 episodes. 42 of those episodes featured Joe Manganiello as the werewolf character Alcide Herveaux. Introduced in season 3, Alcide was only supposed to be a guest star for that particular season – but he proved to be so popular with viewers, he was kept around… until season 7, when he was killed off. Not surprisingly, Manganiello wasn’t happy with the way his character went out. In fact, he was so displeased with Alcide being killed off, he feels he still has unfinished werewolf business to this day.
During an interview on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM show, Manganiello said (with thanks to The Hollywood Reporter for the transcription), “I thought there was so much left on the table for me.

Rory's infidelity in her relationships is a recurring theme throughout Gilmore Girls, but she never cheats on Jess, showing her deep love and respect for him. In Gilmore Girls, Rory always goes back to Jess because they share a strong emotional connection and love for each other. The reason Rory cheats with Logan instead of Jess in the revival could be that Jess is too mature to condone cheating, while Logan is more accepting of it.
Though Rory has three boyfriends throughout the run of Gilmore Girls, one small detail proves that she has always loved Jess. From 2000 to 2007, Gilmore Girls followed the experiences of Rory and Lorelai Gilmore, a mother-daughter duo with a close relationship. A large part of the show involves both characters going through romantic relationships. While most fans agree that Luke Danes is Lorelai's one true pairing, there's no consensus on who is the best of Rory's boyfriends in Gilmore Girls.

TV sets were steaming up all across the country when True Blood premiered in 2008. The vampire obsession was already in full force thanks to the HBO show's debut alongside the release of Twilight that same year. Starring Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, and Alexander Skarsgård, the Louisiana-set vampire fantasy series raised temperatures and broke down barriers — with lots and lots of sex scenes, among other wild moments. Paquin plays local waitress Sookie Stackhouse, whose disinterest in men changes when the dark and handsome vampire Bill Compton (Moyer), walks into the bar where she works. The attraction between Sookie and Bill is immediate, and from then on the series oozes with sexuality. Vampire fever was at its peak in 2008, and the HBO series banked on it by leaning into wild sex scenes and sultry love triangles.

Characters like Sookie St. James and Lane Kim were failed by the show, with their story arcs being unsatisfying and underdeveloped. The humor in the revival became more offensive, and the character of Rory Gilmore made frustrating decisions that went against her previously established character.
Amy Sherman-Palladino's Gilmore Girls is the ultimate fall comfort show, but it is not without faults. Horror shows often suffer from abrupt cancellations, denying audiences a satisfying amount of closure thanks to anticlimactic endings that don't live up to fan expectations. Even some of the most enduring and iconic horror shows have come to a close with lackluster finales. Here are the most maligned endings that ruined the legacies of TV horror classics by failing to stick the landing.
