The French comedy Call My Agent and Israeli drama Tehran took the top prizes at the 49th annual International Emmys, which here handed out Monday night during an in-person ceremony in New York. See the full list of winners below.

In the early minutes of Chinese director Yang Chao’s sophomore feature, a fish is thrown into a bowl of water somewhere along an anonymous riverbank, darkened with bluish hues, lit only by the gleam of fire. It’s a mightily fine shot that probably would have made a bigger impact if some recent déjà vu courtesy of The Revenant hadn’t kicked in. That said, its serene beauty and intrinsically fabulous quality set quite the visual/metaphorical stage for a surrealist exploration of nature and men. Moreover, the thought of what legendary cinematographer Mark Lee Ping-Bin – Taiwan’s answer to Lubezki, who’s lensed almost the entire filmography of Hou Hsiao-Hsien – can do with this is nothing short of mouth-watering.

"This river is mine." Cheng Cheng Films has debuted the trailer for a Chinese drama titled Crosscurrent, which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year. The poetic film is a fantasy romance set on the Yangtze River, and was actually filmed on the river itself. They wanted to "capture the traditional ink-brush painting look of the Yangtze". As artistic as it looks, there's also a greyness they've captured of the modern world. The stunning cinematography won a Silver Bear award in Berlin for cinematographer Ping Bin Lee's "outstanding artistic contribution". Crosscurrent stars Hao Qin, Zhilei Xin, and Kai Tan. Watch below. Richard Linklater’s Boyhood to compete for the Golden Bear; Beauty and the Beast, starring Vincent Cassel and Léa Seydoux, to play out of competition.

The 64th Berlin International Film Festival (Feb 6-16) has added 15 titles to its Competition programme, completing the line-up of 23 films - of which 20 will vye for the Golden Bear and Silver Bears.

The programme includes 18 world premieres and three feature debuts.

The line-up includes the international premiere of Boyhood, from Before Midnight director Richard Linklater. The film, which will premiere at Sundance, was shot over short periods from 2002 to 2013 and covers 12 years in the life of a family, featuring Mason and his sister Samantha. Patricia Arquette, Ethan Hawke, Ellar Coltrane, Lorelei Linklater star.

Opening this year’s Un Certain Regard programme, Mystery returns festival veteran Lou Ye to Cannes for the fourth time, having screened Purple Butterfly, Summer Palace and Spring Fever in the main competition in past years, and after being banned from filmmaking for five years by the Chinese government. Though he is on less provocative form here than previously, he does still sneak in a criticism of the Chinese justice system and the somewhat distasteful practice of private settlements overriding criminal prosecution. The Golden Horse Awards were held last night. They're often thought of as the Chinese Oscars because the tradition goes back the furthest and honors a wide pool of Chinese language films from multiple countries (China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, etcetera). Though neither Monga, Taiwan's submission for Oscar's Foreign Language Film competition, nor Aftershock (China's submission), were nominated for Best Picture they both had multiple nominations .

Among the films pegged for next year's Cannes is the already completed Love and Bruises. We collected some stills of Lou Ye's film which began filming three weeks after winning Best Actor and Best New Actor at the French Oscars for his role in A Prophet and ended in May. We found out that Ye was interested in Rahim taking the lead based on a photo of the actor and not the role that catapulted him to fame - Ye had yet to see the Jacques Audiard prison drama. Ye didn't switch up his brand of filmmaking - working with long takes and keeping the cameras rolling on Rahim and newbie actress Corinne Yam.
