Exclusive: Awesomeness has launched development on Blue Bloods (wt), a series adaptation of the best-selling same-name book series from Melissa de la Cruz, for which Jacquie Walters will serve as writer and executive producer.

Exclusive: Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum and Elizabeth Gabler are looking to reunite as Deadline is hearing Rosenbaum is coming on to direct an adaptation of of Jessica Anya Blau’s bestselling coming-of-age novel Mary Jane for Sony and Gabler’s 3000 Pictures. Rosenbaum and Gabler along with Erin Siminoff, who is also at 3000 Pictures, worked together on Aquamarine and Ramona and Beezus for Fox 2000. Blau will adapt the script.

The novel tells a coming-of-age story of an innocent teenager from a very conservative 1970’s Baltimore family, Mary Jane gets a summer job babysitting, only to find out that her employer is a progressive psychologist who’s secretly treating a rock star and his superstar wife for rehab at his home. As Mary Jane is welcomed into this eccentric household, and as she observes the two mega-stars’ tumultuous, but intensely passionate relationship, she becomes caught between the traditional lifestyle she’s always known,...

ABC has ordered a drama pilot based on the book “Wreckage” by Emily Bleeker.

In the project, Lillian Linden looks like a brave survivor of a plane crash on the surface. But she’s been lying to her family, her friends, and the whole world since rescue helicopters scooped her and her fellow survivor, Dave Hall, off a deserted island in the South Pacific. Missing for almost four years, the castaways are thrust into the spotlight after their rescue, becoming media darlings overnight. But they can’t tell the real story, so they lie.

Jacquie Walters will adapt the book for the pilot and serve as co-executive producer. Marc Webb is attached to direct and executive produce under his Dark Lamb banner. Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly will also executive produce along with Mark Martin of Black Lamb and Keith Samples. Bleeker will serve as consultant. ABC Studios will produce.

While Lulu Wang’s emotional family drama “The Farewell” may have broken through last year, and upcoming comic book adaptations “Birds of Prey” (by Cathy Yan) and “The Eternals” (from Chloé Zhao) spell fresh opportunities for filmmakers of Chinese descent in 2020, a rollicking little follow-the-money caper called “Lucky Grandma” from first-time feature director Sasie Sealy and co-writer Angela Cheng proves there are plenty more emerging Chinese American talents just waiting for their shot. All it takes is a little good fortune — and the support of a few encouraging festivals, like the Tribeca team that gave this film a boost — and they should be on their way.

Exclusive: Fledgling UK distributor Lightbulb, which specialises in home ent releases, has picked up four films for its slate, including SXSW 2018 drama Sadie and Polish fantasy-thriller Sword Of God.

The former is a U.S. indie pic starring Melanie Lynskey (Togetherness), John Gallagher, Jr. (10 Cloverfield Lane) and Sophia Mitri Schloss (The Kicks) in the title role. Directed by Megan Griffiths (Lucky Them), the film charts the story of a girl who will stop at nothing to preserve her father’s place on the home front. The deal was brokered by Philippe Louis Galliano of The Movie Agency.

Polish language pic Sword Of God, set during the medieval period, sees two Christian knights arrive at a pagan village, intent on converting the villagers to their religion. Soon their faith, and the bond between them, are brutally tested and the men must decide how far they are willing to go for their religion.

Ten-year-old Julia Butters is certainly the breakout star of Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” In the film, she plays co-star to Leonardo DiCaprio’s middling screen actor Rick Dalton, and the two wax philosophical together. She tells him the goal of acting is “to achieve 100% effectiveness. Which is impossible.” It’s a brief, but haunting moment.

Tarantino, it turns out, discovered the young starlet off of TV’s “American Housewife,” in which she stars as Ocd-addled Anna-Kat Otto.

Speaking to IndieWire, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” producer David Heyman said, of all the cuts in the nearly three-hour film, he most mourns a tour-de-force third encounter with Dalton’s “Lancer” costar (Butters). “Quentin is adept at throwing out a great scene,” said Heyman. “If she was in, she’d get an Oscar nomination for that performance. History is about to get a lot more funny on Netflix. The streaming giant has tapped six young actors for The Who Was? Show, an upcoming historical comedy sketch series which introduces kids to leading figures from yesteryear. The new series was inspired by Penguin Workshop's bestselling Who Was? biography series. The Directors Guild of America has announced the nominees in the documentary and television categories for this year’s DGA Awards, with O.J. Simpson present in both fields: “O.J.: Made in America” and “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” both picked up nods. Other contenders include “Atlanta,” “Westworld” and “The Eagle Huntress.” The feature film nominees, meanwhile, are scheduled to be announced tomorrow.
