Daredevil: Born Again sees Charlie Cox's titular antihero from Hell's Kitchen fight fiery battles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe on a broad scale for the first time. However, Cox teases that fans of Matt Murdock could see him transition from the Disney+ series back to the big screen, teasing the possibility of him appearing in the next two Avengers films, Doomsday and Secret Wars.
Speaking with GQ, Cox addressed Daredevil's potential big-screen MCU features, including the Avengers sequels and Spider-Man 4. Admitting that "it's more possible than it's ever been" for Murdock to come face-to-face with the new-look Avengers, Cox believes a Daredevil appearance in the upcoming superhero blockbusters would elevate his character's standing.

Aladdin's genie is getting a brand-new imagining in a gender-swapped cosplay. Aladdin was originally a 2D-animated Disney film released in 1992. It featured the late comedian and actor Robin Williams in the role of the iconic blue genie who sings "Friend Like Me" and grants the titular character three wishes. Aladdin was followed up by a 1994 TV series, as well as the sequel films The Return of Jafar and Aladdin and the King of Thieves. In 2019, Disney made a live-action version of Aladdin.
Over three decades after Aladdin's initial release, a new gender-swapped genie cosplay has been revealed.

Sometimes, a movie sequel isn't all it's cracked up to be. Many a time, fans wait years for a sequel only to be bitterly disappointed by the result. Other times, a movie becomes a franchise and suffers severely diminishing returns. Sometimes it's just best for a movie to stand on its own.
But certain movies are so good that fans immediately demand or assume there will be a sequel... but then a sequel never happens. Maybe it gets mired in development hell, or perhaps something happens behind the scenes that makes creating a sequel an impossible task. Unfortunately, this happens quite a lot.

Disney brings back Robin Williams' iconic character Genie in Once Upon a Studio, using outtakes from the original Aladdin recording instead of AI. Genie's charm and humor, brought to life by Williams, is what made the character so beloved and an iconic part of Disney animation. Williams' estate was involved in the decision to feature Genie in the new short, ensuring that his actual voice was used rather than relying on artificial intelligence.

Robin Williams' Genie from Aladdin returns in Once Upon a Studio, a new short film celebrating Disney's 100th anniversary, and the story behind the special appearance has been revealed.
Speaking with The Direct, Disney Animation producers Brad Simonsen and Yvett Merino shared how it was important for them to include the iconic, beloved character. Knowing from the start that they wanted Williams' Genie included, the first step taken was to get in touch with the late actor's estate. Once having the estate's blessing, the Once Upon a Studio team reviewed Williams' Aladdin outtakes to find Genie dialogue that fit with the character's cameo.

Aladdin is one of Disney's most beloved animated movies ever and one of the main reasons behind that is the Genie character. While he is technically only a sidekick character, he has a huge part to play in the film. Whether he's producing comedic moments or being emotionally sincere, he's a joy to watch. While the magical shape-shifting ability that Genie has is tons of fun, it really is the way that Robin Williams voiced the character that made him such a fan favorite. But with so many sharp comments, which ones qualify as Genie's best quotes from all the Disney animated movies?
Genie didn't plant himself into the hearts and memories of so many fans over the years through just the original movie Aladdin in 1992. His status as one of the most memorable animated Disney characters was cemented by his reappearance in the sequel movies, The Return of Jafar...

An Oscar winner for his documentary Man on Wire and the filmmaker behind 2014’s awards juggernaut The Theory of Everything, James Marsh has been away from the big screen for a few years (his last project was the 2018 heist film King of Thieves). But he comes to Cannes with two buzzy projects in the market. In Night Boat to Tangier, he takes on Kevin Barry’s New York Times best-seller with a cast including Michael Fassbender, Domhnall Gleeson and Ruth Negga.
That film hasn’t shot yet, but Marsh has already completed a rather different feature, Dance First. A sweeping account of the life of literary icon Samuel Beckett (the title is taken from his ethos, “Dance first, think later”), the film sees Gabriel Byrne as the Nobel Prize winner in a story that covers the many aspects of his younger years: from Parisian bon vivant to WWII resistance fighter and philandering husband.

Here's a well-known film fact among fans of director Sam Raimi's oeuvre: adding Bruce Campbell to something automatically makes it better. The actor got his start in Raimi's "The Evil Dead" and has starred in quite a few of his longtime friend's movies and TV shows since, including most of the "Evil Dead" franchise and stints as the King of Thieves, Autolycus, on the Raimi-produced "Xena: The Warrior Princess" and "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys." Campbell and Raimi grew up together, making home movies and honing their craft, and as such Raimi has included Campbell cameos in almost all of his productions to honor their decades-long friendship.

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” (Sony/$19.99) scored a second of what will be likely many weeks atop VOD charts. That comes after the film reached $800 million in domestic box office and it’s about to enter its fifth month in theaters.
Little else changed this week, with fewer films than usual finding positions on all three iTunes, Google Play, and Vudu charts. “Sing 2” (Universal/$19.99), high on all charts again, has spent more than three months at a $19.99 or higher. Like “Spider-Man,” it still ranked in the top 10 this weekend.
“Dog” (United Artists/$19.99), a much more recent release and #7 in theaters, was the third across-the-board placer. The only new entry of note was “Panama” (Saban/$6.99), an action thriller about an arms dealer in the country during the invasion. It costars Mel Gibson, with Mark Neveldine directing. It placed on two charts.
Four Best Picture nominees showed up on at least one chart.

If Ted Lasso were a film executive, he’d probably resemble someone like Marc Goldberg, the CEO of U.K. producer-distributor Signature Entertainment.
Goldberg’s favorite football team since he was a kid has been West Ham United, and — in a cosmic alignment befitting the popular Apple TV Plus series — the club’s owner, David Sullivan, happens to be a stakeholder in Signature.
In Goldberg’s early career as a DVD salesman, he managed to convince a corporate client that buying an executive box at West Ham would come in handy when entertaining customers. In 2010, when Sullivan bought the team, the new owner asked for feedback from corporate members on ways to improve the club, which super-fan Goldberg readily provided in an off-the-cuff email.

Showtime Documentary Films announced “We Need To Talk About Cosby” will premiere on Jan. 30 at 10 p.m., following its Sundance Film Festival premiere.
From Emmy-winning director W. Kamau Bell, the four-part docuseries will take a deep dive into Bill Cosby’s influential career and ultimate downfall — due to accusations of rape, drug facilitated sexual assault, sexual battery and other misconduct by more than 60 women.
“As a child of Bill Cosby, I was a huge fan of all of his shows and wanted to be a comedian because of him,” said Bell in a statement. “I never thought I’d ever wrestle with who we all thought Cosby was and who we now understand him to be. I’m not sure he would want me to do this work, but Cliff Huxtable definitely would.”

Last May, Disney released their live-action remake of Aladdin, which turned out to be one of the studio’s biggest hits of the year. The reboot of the beloved 1992 animated classic earned over $1 billion at the global box office. It came as no surprise, then, when we started hearing a sequel could be on the way a few months after it released. But it seems the Mouse House’s plans for Agrabah don’t end there.
Sources close to Wgtc – the same ones who told us Aladdin 2 was in the works months before it was announced, and that Disney was remaking Robin Hood and Bambi, both of which were correct – say that we can expect an Aladdin 3 as well. That’s right, we’re hearing that Disney is planning on delivering an entire trilogy based on the remake, expanding the story of Aladdin, Jasmine and the Genie across three films.

Disney’s Aladdin remake has raked in more cash than there is in the Cave of Wonders, with the live-action take on the 1992 animated classic earning over $1 billion at the box office. It’s no surprise, then, that Disney is already working on a sequel. Producer Dan Lin recently confirmed that talks are currently underway to expand the franchise and if the plan goes ahead, expect the follow-up to cover fresh ground for the property.
ComicBook.com spoke with Lin this week and asked him which of the animated movie’s sequels would he like to tackle in live-action: Return of Jafar or Aladdin and the King of Thieves? Interestingly, the producer said that Aladdin 2 wouldn’t adapt either one wholesale and would cherrypick elements from “different source material” to create a fresh storyline.
“If I told you the fans would go crazy. It’s just too early for me to reveal.

Disney’s live-action remakes of their extensive back catalogue of animated classics continue to be a license to print money, with both The Lion King and Aladdin earning over a billion dollars each at the box office. It may have taken the latter a little longer to reach that mark, but it still ranks as an unqualified success for the studio given the serious questions raised by the marketing materials as well as the fairly tepid reviews.
The original 1992 animated version of Aladdin would go on to spawn two direct-to-video sequels, The Return of Jafar and Aladdin and the King of Thieves, and with this year’s remake lifting so much material from its animated counterpart, any potential follow-up already comes loaded with story options. Of course, there’ve been rumors of Disney developing an Aladdin 2 before now, but in a recent interview, producer Dan Lin went into more...

A few years ago, Hans Zimmer wrote Ben Wallfisch a fan letter. Zimmer had just seen “The Escapist,” a film he didn’t like but whose music he admired. He never received a reply.
A few months later Zimmer was in London meeting a mutual friend, fellow composer Richard Harvey, and Wallfisch’s name came up. Later, when Harvey later told him Zimmer had written but not heard back, Wallfisch was mortified.
As both Zimmer and Wallfisch tell it, that very day Zimmer received an email from another Benjamin Wallfisch, a Texas lawyer, who wrote to say, “I think you meant to write the composer Ben Wallfisch.”
Zimmer, one of Hollywood’s most in-demand composers, had been impressed. “I looked at a video on YouTube, a piece that he had written for an orchestra in Holland,” the composer recalls. “I thought it was astonishing. Brilliant writing, and quite witty. And it had 254 views.

This month, three very different projects will showcase three sides of the same composer: a grand-scale symphonic score for a comic-book movie; a hardcore punk sound for a nightmarish supernatural tale; and a surprising combination of orchestra and electronics for an edgier-than-usual nature documentary.
The composer is London-born Benjamin Wallfisch, and his music for “Shazam!,” “Hellboy” and “Hostile Planet” couldn’t be farther apart in sound and style. But, as director James Marsh (“The Theory of Everything”) points out, “You can be versatile but boring, or you can be versatile and interesting in every genre that you take on. That is Ben’s great ability. He owns those choices and makes them his.”
In the past three years alone, Wallfisch has written an eerie and disturbing score for the Stephen King horror film “It”; earned Grammy nominations for his collaborations with Hans Zimmer on the all-electronic music for “Blade Runner 2049...

Jason Isaacs and Nazanin Boniadi in ‘Hotel Mumbai.’
The timing could not have been worse: Hotel Mumbai opening in Australian cinemas the day before the horrific slaughter of innocents at two mosques in Christchurch.
Anthony Maras’ thriller based on the 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai is a superbly-made film but the subject was not something that many Australian cinemagoers wanted to experience amid the shock and grief over events in Christchurch.
Released by Icon, the film co-written by Maras and John Collee, starring Dev Patel, Armie Hammer, Nazanin Boniadi, Anupam Kher and Tilda Cobham-Hervey, opened in second spot, taking $979,000 on 268 screens and $1.06 million including previews.
To be fair to the producers, Basil Iwanyk, Gary Hamilton, Mike Gabrawy, Julie Ryan, Andrew Ogilvie and Jomon Thomas, that is not a bad result and receipts may well build on word of mouth – but my guess is the total would have been at least $500,000 higher...

Brie Larson in ‘Captain Marvel’ (Photo credit: Disney).
After a terrible start to the year with grosses down 12 per cent on the same period last year, Australian exhibitors had something to cheer about last weekend thanks to Disney/Marvel’s Captain Marvel.
Starring Brie Larson as the first female Marvel character to front her own movie, the sci-fi fantasy co-directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck notched the biggest debut of 2019 and an all-time record for March.
The estimated Us launch of $US153 million ranks as the third biggest in March behind Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and Warner Bros’ Batman v. Superman. The global total of $US455 million was the sixth highest ever and the second best for a superhero film behind Avengers : Infinity War.
It is a triumph for many women behind the camera including co-director and writer Boden, co-screenwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet, story credits for Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman,...

‘Green Book.’
Three Academy Awards including best film and for supporting actor Mahershala Ali gave Green Book a sizable bounce in Australian cinemas last weekend while the best actor Oscar for Rami Malek has helped prolong Bohemian Rhapsody’s marathon run.
In other respects it was another bleak trading session as family adventure A Dog’s Way Home had a mediocre opening, well ahead of the other wide new releases, English heist caper King of Thieves and gory thriller Greta.
Flying the Nest, an animated family film which follows a young bird who sets off on a journey through a harsh and unrelenting winter in order to reunite with his true love, had minimal impact as an alternate content release.
Cinemas are marking time until the arrival this Thursday of Disney/Marvel’s Captain Marvel. The top 20 titles collectively generated $9.7 million, 6 per cent down on the previous weekend according to Numero.

Trotman’s appointment was announced last October, filling the position vacated by Danny Perkins, who departed to set up his own business. Subsequently she decided not to make the move due to family-related visa issues.

James Marsh’s heist-caper “King of Thieves” reunites beloved British actors for a story that’s familiar yet still surprising. In a rat pack that includes Michael Caine, Jim Broadbent, Michael Gambon, Tom Courtenay and Ray Winstone, these mild-mannered gents play retired criminals who unite for one last tantalizing score: the chance to steal over £200 million in jewels and money.
Brian (Caine) is the reluctant leader of this grizzly pack, breaking his promise to his late wife to leave his notorious days behind him. But he knows a score too good to pass up, and when timid, but criminally minded whippersnapper Basil shows him a way into a high-security vault holding millions worth of goods, Brian rallies his troops for one last show. Basil ingratiates his way into their company as an expert in wiring and as the person who knows everything there is to know about their target.
Their crew is a motley one.
