Every time I come across a muscular anime girl, I squeal out of excitement. So one can imagine what my reaction to Maki Oze from Fire Force must have been. Calling her simply a muscular anime girl is straight-up disrespectful, simply because there’s so much more to her. And, she needs appreciation for all of that, because the anime-manga series has failed to justify her potential.

Maki is a well-rounded character who is capable of both fighting and forming good relationships. There were many instances throughout the story where she could have played an important role. However, her potential is always stunted for laughs. It’s honestly disappointing to see her getting reduced to Fire Force’s biggest flaw.

Dandadan’s first season has set a pretty high bar when it comes to adapting a manga.

There’s a lot to love among fans about Fire Force, its striking visual style, the wild fight scenes, the gripping back story on spontaneous human combustion, and the ethereal mystery of the Evangelist. Now that Fire Force Season 3 returned with a bang, the fans are completely hyped.

The initial minutes got things going with some dynamite action, familiar buddies, and some new developments in the fire soldiers and White-Clad heretics. But within a few minutes of the new season, that same frustration comes back. Just when you’re getting immersed in the heat of battle or the tension of an unfolding conspiracy, bam!

Tamaki trips over her own feet, clothes fly, and the tone of the scene crashes into what feels like a shallow pit of forced fan service. Hey, fan service isn’t really that bad in itself.

After 4 years, Atsushi Ohkubo’s Fire Force has finally made an epic comeback with the third season, which was much awaited by the fans. The series was considered one of the best anime stories in the world, and now, with the third season, the creators hope to live on the same legacy by moving forward within the Fire Force storyline.

The first episode of Fire Force’s third season was recently released, giving us a glimpse into the struggles of Special Fire Force Company 8 as their captain, Akitaru Obi, has been imprisoned. Wall Street is betting big on anime, with one major firm predicting that the anime streaming market is set to grow to $16 billion by 2030, with Crunchyroll and Netflix currently leading the way.

Via Variety, Wall Street research firm Bernstein released new estimates of the overseas anime streaming market, revealing that Netflix and Crunchyroll dominated 2023's market share with 42% and 40%, respectively. The rest of the streamers combined totaled a far more modest 18%, with the overseas anime streaming market worth $3.7 billion in total.

Despite the competition between the two streamers, with Netflix acquiring exclusive streaming rights to major titles like Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King and the upcoming One Piece remake -- both of whose previous releases streamed exclusively on Crunchyroll -- Bernstein says the pair can co-exist and grow in the anime market due to their different advantages.

Fan theories have been around for as long as there have been pieces of media to be fans of. It's human nature to want to speculate about how a story will turn out, after all. Part of the curse and blessing of being human is the capacity for complex thought and critical thinking skills. Fan theories are often the result of this side effect of sentience and wild imagination. As a result, many of them have a tendency to be wrong. Anime draws in those with a fascination for the bombastic, so the theories are often over-the-top and impossible as well.

Whoever said remakes aren’t perfectly done needs to take a good look at Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. The 2009 series is a reboot of the 2003 anime of the same name, but it is so much better. It lived up to the idea and expectations of a reboot, but there’s one anime that needs to do the same.

While some anime characters amaze viewers with superhuman feats of strength or intellect, sheer speed is one of the most entertaining and impressive physical feats of all. Plenty of anime characters push their mobility to the limit, moving faster than the eye can see to give themselves a serious edge in battle. Being too fast to hit is the best armor of all, most of all for characters who can keep pace with or even surpass the famed Sonic the Hedgehog.

Sonic is one quick character, but even he would fall behind when racing certain anime characters who have become speed incarnate. Some of those characters employ their dazzling speed in short bursts, such as ultra-rapid punches or leaps, while others can cross a long distance and maintain their unbelievable speed for quite some time. Some of those quick-moving characters pair their speed with astonishing strength as well, making them nigh-unbeatable in battle.

Even the most well-written anime can suffer from several problematic tropes that do more damage to the story than if they had been excluded in the first place. Tropes exist for writers to utilize to help tell their story while also being an easy way for audiences to identify certain plot or character choices. In short, tropes are kind of like blueprints or note cards for authors to use and viewers to easily understand.

However, not all tropes are created equal. Some tropes become so popular that they now oversaturate anime series while other tropes haven't aged particularly well as audiences have refined their tastes and standards over time. Anime specifically uses a wide range of tropes that have become iconic in the medium, but not all of them deserve such use. Even including just a few problematic tropes can otherwise damage or ruin a 10/10 anime.

The end of March will also mark the end of the Winter 2025 anime season. With the new season approaching, a new Japanese survey has revealed which upcoming shows are stirring up the most excitement among its domestic fan base.

Japan-based anime site Animate Times asked its readers to submit their "top recommended anime" picks for Spring 2025. The survey's interim results were unveiled on March 7, with separate top 10 lists released for both male and female viewers. The site also released a third chart ranking the top picks overall. This list includes many anime franchises with already-large international followings, including Fire Force and My Hero Academia. However, there are also several works that have never before been adapted for TV. Animate Times' top 10 overall picks, listed from most to least popular, are included below.
