Lauded animator Bill Plympton will be releasing his feature mockumentary Hitler’s Folly for free on Friday, June 3rd. A merciless satire from Academy Award nominee Bill Plympton, Hitler's Folly explores what might have happened if Adolf Hitler's art career had been more successful and instead of becoming an evil dictator, he was inspired to become an animator like Walt Disney. Chicago – We cover hundreds of Blu-rays and DVDs at HollywoodChicago.com every year and most are of the current variety, so it’s always nice to see a well-presented catalog title, a collection that makes a better gift for the classic movie lover in your family than, say, “Little Fockers” or “Yogi Bear.” Fans of Turner Classic Movies will love “Tracy & Hepburn: The Definitive Collection,” a solid 10-disc set eight movies, some of them great, and a fantastic tribute to a celluloid legend.

One of the animated films nominated for an Academy Award this year is live action director Wes Anderson’s venture into stop-motion animation, Fantastic Mr. Fox. This is based on Roald Dahl’s children’s book, which draws upon the traditional characterization of the fox as a trickster, which goes back to Aesop’s fables and the European tales of Reynard the Fox. Other wild members of the dog family likewise have appeared as tricksters, notably the coyote in Native American mythology, and sometimes the wolf.

Thinking about Hanna-Barbera’s 1960s animated trickster Top Cat for a forthcoming installment of this column led me to consider another example of the canine trickster: Top Cat’s predecessor at Hanna-Barbera, Hokey Wolf.
