Recensione in evidenza
For someone born in a trunk and raised by professionals, Kay Francis hasn't had much success. She can always get a job in a touring company, but she wants to be on Broadway. She has written her own play. The trouble is none of the regular producers will touch it. While she and room mate Isabel Jeans are drowning their sorrows, she is rescued by architect Ian Hunter. He gets them home, and is handed a copy of the play. He decides to produce it. This despite the sound financial objections of his associate, George Brent. The play is a success, and Hunter offers marriage. But she is in love with Brent, and he with her. The problem he is married estranged wife Gloria Dickson. But she won't give him a divorce.
Despite the dark title, there's aren't any secrets. It's light drama that runs on rails. Despite her immense salary, Miss Francis was out of favor at Warner Brothers. But she wanted that salary, took whatever they threw at her, and did her best, as did everyone in this rather dull little story, which somehow required five writers.

- BlooperAt the opening night of Fay's play "Springboard", pages from the program are shown to indicate the play's progress. The one for the second act reads: "Springboard, Act II, Interior Fay Carter's living room, next day." Fay Carter is the *actress*. Unless the character has the same name as the star, this was an error.
