Bong Joon-ho easily has to be one of the best directors of the current generation. Over the years, he has been bending genres like a mad scientist, which feels unorthodox yet so right. Watching his movies is like a roller coaster ride; one moment, you are laughing till your stomach hurts, and the next, you end up gasping from whatever unexpected surprise he has planned for the audience.
He has mastered the art of blending social issues with genres like dark humor or sci-fi horror without making it a mess. Now, it’s hard for me to say how he does what he does. I’m sure there are people studying his movies as part of their thesis, but as someone who enjoys watching movies, I can guarantee you that you will be glued to the screen and won’t even realize where the time went by the time the movie is done.

Warner Bros has confirmed that its Paul Thomas Anderson feature starring Leonardo DiCaprio is called One Battle After Another and has pushed it from August onto September 26, bouncing Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride! into March 2026.
This is a better awards season slot than initial date August 8, were the studio minded to go down that path, particularly if it sees a path to capitalising on strong word of mouth from reviews and possibly the fall festivals, which have been an occasional entry point for the auteur.Of his last five films, Inherent Vice debuted at New York Film Festival in 2014 and...

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for “Mickey 17,” currently playing in theaters.
In the near-future space travels of the Bong Joon Ho film, “Mickey 17,” Robert Pattinson plays an Expendable – a person designated to be used for often-fatal scientific experiments and revived through a human printer that makes an exact copy of their body, memories intact, each time.
Production designer Fiona Crombie said that to come up with the printer’s visual look, she looked at medical equipment and “high-tech weaving machines.” Although the printer is the “most advanced” part of the spaceship, the goal with the overall “Mickey 17” aesthetic was to ensure that the futuristic nature of the setting was balanced by the use of existing references.
“It is based in a reality, like we’re looking around us and seeing, ‘What is a real-world version of this that we can extrapolate and push and take further?...

Exclusive: Although Korean star Hyun Bin first hesitated to take on the role of Korean independence fighter Ahn Jung-geun in Harbin, he knew deep down that he could not pass up such a rare opportunity.
Director Woo Min-ho tried three times before he managed to convince Hyun to take on the leading role. Woo understood Hyun’s hesitation, given the magnitude of Ahn’s stature in Korean history.
“It isn’t easy as an actor to accept the offer to play the role of Ahn Jung-geun, because Koreans have their own ideas and thoughts about him as a patriotic martyr,” Hyun told Deadline. “I knew that playing Ahn wouldn’t be an easy task and it took a lot of courage. But after discussing with the director, I thought about how there might not be a lot of opportunities to play a great hero of Korean history, and that it...

The Rings of Power season 2 is one of the most-anticipated fantasy releases of 2024, and the stakes are high as Amazon's Lord of the Rings show makes its return. The Rings of Power season 1's ending sees Halbrand revealing himself as Sauron, setting the stage for the villain to begin his conquest of Middle-earth. The trailers for The Rings of Power season 2 suggest he'll take on a new identity, tricking the Elves again in his pursuit of power. This will happen as Galadriel grapples with his betrayal, which will make her even more determined to stop him.
Sauron and Galadriel's reunion looks tense in The Rings of Power season 2 trailers, which tease plenty of action, new characters, and more lore from J.R.R. Tolkien's books. Although the Prime Video series takes time to find its footing in season 1, it looks as though viewers are in for a thrilling ride in the second outing.

The final miniseries for Ash, known as Pokémon: Aim to Be a (Pokémon) Master, is about half-way through its run at this point, and the episodes seen so far have some fans asking: will this miniseries actually give Ash the ending he deserves?
After winning the World Coronation Series and becoming a Pokémon champion, it was announced that Ash would be leaving the series at long last, having achieved his dream. New characters will be taking over as leads for the Generation 9 Pokémon anime, and it's not clear how much connection, if any, the new series will have to previous continuity. At that time, it was also announced that Ash would be receiving a 2023 miniseries of 11 episodes, intended to put a bow on his journey. Five of these episodes have aired, however, and with a few noteworthy exceptions, they've been run-of-the-mill episodes, picking up Misty and Brock again alongside revisiting familiar Pokémon faces.

Last week we were all caught off guard by the news that a Parasite series was headed to HBO. Despite the involvement of Parasite director Bong Joon-ho, many were skeptical about the project, with the addition of The Big Short director Adam McKay raising an eyebrow or two. The biggest question seemed to be: just what the hell […]

Seems to me that only in a very good year for movies could the best film I saw all year and the worst film I saw all year both be called Parasite. Of course, one was the Cannes sensation and sure-to-be-Oscar-nominated South Korean film from Bong Joon Ho. The other was the 1982 3-D “classic” from director Charles Band, starring Demi Moore and Luca Bercovici, a movie which, once I finally caught up with it, or rather once it finally caught up with me (after my having successfully avoided it for almost 40 years), certainly made for an agonizing waste of my time, so I can only imagine what the actors and craftspeople who were involved with making it must have felt, and likely still do. And I consider it a real hallmark of a quality cinema annum when I can say that I saw more movies by near-forgotten Hollywood journeymen Ray Enright...
