L'ultima frontiera

This is one of my all time favorite movies. Both Linda Evans and Jack Thompson played their parts totally convincingly and with a feeling that communicated itself to the audience. It was not only a great drama but one of the best romantic films I have seen. After watching this movie, I became a Jack Thompson fan and have ordered many of his movies to view. The rest of the cast also did an outstanding job. The conditions in the Outback during a drought were pictured very realistically. I enjoyed the camel races in Alice Springs, the visit to the Aborigine camp and became interested in the issue of drilling for water. For this viewer, the film was not only a very well done romantic drama but also an educational one. I spent hours reading about Australia.I hope it soon becomes available in a region one format so that North American viewers can enjoy the film.

I have seen this excellent movie a couple of times and could watch it again and again without tiring of it. I have visited some of the places where the parts of the movie were filmed around Quorn and the Flinders Ranges in South Australia and that makes it so much more interesting trying to recognize places that are sometimes dressed for the set. I was brought up and am still in country Australia where we know all about droughts, fires and floods first hand so I found it all quite realistic. I would dearly love to find this absolutely marvelous movie on DVD so I can watch it as many times as I like and when I like. Jack Thompson is one of my all time favorite actors and Linda Evans is great too. I am pleased to see favorable comments from overseas viewers. Now they know we have more than kangaroos bounding about the country, although the kangaroos in these drought times prove a danger on the roads as they search for food. I await the day someone tells me I can now find this unforgettable movie on DVD.

I absolutely love this movie. Linda Evans was fantastic in her role, playing a single mother, then newly married and suddenly widowed, caretaker of a ranch and stepdaughters, all the while learning to live in the Australian outback. Snakes, drought, heat, unfriendly neighbors, fire and an unexpected new love were written into this story very well. I enjoyed seeing the real Australia (as opposed to a back lot setting), and it made this movie more believable. The nighttime fight scene seemed just so-so until I heard Linda talking about it on a talk show: filmed till early hrs of morning, in very chilly temperatures. This movie has not been on TV in a very long time. I had taped it the last time it was scheduled, but unfortunately the TV film kept messing up and some good parts that I remember are not on my video, like most of the fire that nearly killed her son and the explosion that hurt her friend. Linda's character showed that perseverance (and sometimes stubborness) will get us through some very difficult situations. For me, this is a very enjoyable movie, with a very talented and beautiful actress, and I'd watch it repeatedly if I could.

I found this movie well done and quite enjoyable. I have always had a strong attraction to the Australians and some of the brutal condition's they must overcome to survive. Linda Evans was commendable in her portrayal of a single parent in a new country trying to make a go of it. The camel racing was a nice touch that I have never seen before. I highly recommend the movie, one that the whole family with all age children can watch. I felt it was a accurate depiction of some of the struggles people, especially ranchers, work to overcome. If it is ever released on DVD or shown on TV again I would be first in line to get it. My VHS copy is showing its age.. Maybe my newer better digital viewing habits have more to do with that though..lol...
