A new career-spanning Rush anthology titled Rush 50 will include previously unreleased tracks and fan-requested material.
The collection is out March 21st and will arrive on vinyl as a 7-lp box set and on CD in a four-disc box set. It marks the first-ever career-spanning anthology from Rush.
“50? Is that all?…seriously…it’s a cool collection…but look at all those songs,” remarked Geddy Lee in a press release. “I’m exhausted just reading the effin list!”
Billed as a chronological trip through the prog-rock legends’ career — from their first single in 1973 through their final gig in 2015 — the tracklist is exhaustive, comprising live and studio recordings.
The rare material — some “fan requested,” per the press release — is frontloaded on Disc 1, including versions of early tunes “Not Fade Away,” “You Can’t Fight It,” and “Working Man” that are receiving their first-ever physical release on vinyl/CD. A handful of live...

Disney surprised everyone for Thanksgiving with a first look at their upcoming live-action remake of The Lion King. The first trailer and poster dropped today, showing what looks like a scene-for-scene recreation of the classic 1994 animated adventure. Directed by Jon Favreau, this beautiful CGI-animated retelling will be in theaters July 19, 2019.
From Disney Live Action, director Jon Favreau's all-new The Lion King journeys to the African savanna where a future king must overcome betrayal and tragedy to assume his rightful place on Pride Rock. The teaser recreates the opening scene from the original Lion King almost beat for beat with Rafiki lifting baby Simba on Pride Rock, showing the youngster off to the rest of the animal kingdom. As this plays out, we get to hear James Earl Jones, who returns from the original to reprise his role as Simba's loving and wise father Mufasa, providing narration for the trailer.

Over two years after news leaked that Dr. Dre was working on a secret Apple Music scripted series called Vital Signs, the project’s fate has been revealed: Apple CEO Tim Cook shelved the project due to its graphic depictions of violence, sex and drug use.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Cook viewed Vital Signs over a year ago and was “troubled” by the series, which featured characters doing lines of cocaine, gun violence and an explicit orgy scene at a Los Angeles mansion that gave the series notoriety before it was even announced.

Apple's efforts to break into the streaming video business have received most of the industry buzz, but it's actually Apple Music that could benefit the most from the technology giant's first scripted TV series. THR revealed Feb. 12 that Apple is bankrolling an edgy, semiautobiographical project from one of its own executives, Beats Electronics co-founder Dr. Dre. Apple is making its long-rumored foray into the world of content creation, and its first scripted series will star one of the tech giant’s very own executives.
Vital Signs, a six-episode drama, according to The Hollywood Reporter -- which was first to report news of the series -- will star and is being executive produced by none other than Dr. Dre. Apple notably purchased Beats from Dre and Jimmy Iovine for over $3 billion in 2014 -- though Vital Signs suggests the deal may have been more than just a headphones play.
The half-hour show is semi-autobiographical, according to the Reporter, and is jam-packed with violence and sex. Sam Rockwell will co-star, music video veteran Paul Hunter is directing and Empire’s Robert Munic wrote all six episodes.

It looks like Apple is getting ready to dive into the world of online television production, as the giant preps a series that would join other online shows like House Of Cards, Transparent, and Orange Is The New Black. According to THR, they've looked at one of their own executives for inspiration, as Beats co-founder Dr. Dre is currently filming Vital Signs for the company.
The series is a described as a dark drama that will follow Dr. Dre in a semi-autobiographical way, as the rap legend explores a different emotion in each of its six episodes. The cast will also reportedly include Sam Rockwell and Mo McCrae. Vital Signs will not shy away from the kinds of adult themes Dre has explored in his rhymes over the years, as the current episode being shot includes plenty of violence and sex.

Beats co-founder Dr. Dre will produce and star in Apple’s first crack at a scripted television series. According to sources close to the matter, the show will be called Vital Signs, drop all six episodes at once, and be totally backed and paid for by Apple.

It's time to say goobye to "Eureka."
Syfy's delightful show -- about a secret high-tech town of barmy brainiacs and a sensible sheriff who comes to the rescue when the scientists' experiments go horribly wrong -- ends its five-season run tonight.
Know this: Showrunner Jaime Paglia and his team pulled off a major coup with "Eureka's" series finale, which they essentially produced in a single week. Why the time crunch? Last August, days after Syfy announced the show was being renewed for a six-episode sixth season, producers were told that its fifth season would be its last. The Bee Gees' Robin Gibb, 62, has awoken from the coma he fell into last week, and his doctor now says the singer is battling colorectal cancer, according to news reports.
USA Today reported that Gibb underwent two operations, in addition to chemotherapy treatments, for his advanced colorectal cancer.
According to Rolling Stone, the aggressive treatments led to brain swelling as a result of liver failure. Gibb also developed pneumonia because his body was so weak; he lost consciousness last week.
However, Rolling Stone reported that his doctor is amazed by his recovery:
"Only three days ago, I warned Robin’s wife, Dwina, son, Robin John and brother, Barry, that I feared the worst," Gibb's physician and gastroenterologist, Dr. Andrew Thillainayagam, said in a statement released today by Gibb's representative. Movies with Hollywood stars are flopping. Is Twitter to blame?
A-listers were once a gold standard. Big names – Cruise, Roberts, Nicholson – could "open" a movie simply by being in it. That is to say, they guaranteed big-ticket sales for the opening weekend by virtue of their names alone. That is what justified their monster fees: a rumoured $20m (£12.6m) per movie being the benchmark, plus a share of the profits (gross not net).
But now stars aren't paying their way. Peter Bart, former Variety editor and one-time Paramount producer, has triggered a spasm of anxiety by suggesting that the star system is in the midst of a Greek-currency style collapse. "Something profound is happening," he says. "Where are the stars [...] who could carry a film?"
Certainly, many recent big-name movies are in the red. Larry Crowne – the autumn-years romcom starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, once bywords for bankability – is...

Jeff Eastin is the creator and executive producer of the popular USA Network original series White Collar, about the unlikely partnership of con artist Neal Caffrey (Matt Bomer) and FBI Agent Peter Burke (Tim DeKay).
After graduating from Colorado State University with a degree in journalism, he landed a position as director of photography on two Roger Corman films that were being shot locally, before heading out to try his luck in Hollywood. He soon wrote a movie that Jamie Foxx starred in, and then began to get involved with television, doing a Upn series called Shasta and creating Hawaii for NBC, eventually making his way to the USA Network with White Collar.
During a recent interview, writer/executive producer Jeff Eastin talked about how White Collar came about, why he thinks the show works so well and where he plans to take it in Season 2. Check out what he...

Two highly-anticipated second feature films from U.S. underground filmmakers will be making their World Premieres all the way over at the 64th annual Edinburgh International Film Festival, which will run for twelve days on June 16-27. The films are Rona Mark’s The Crab and Zach Clark’s Vacation!.
The Crab, which screens on June 21, is the touching story of a verbally abusive man born with two enormous, mutant-like hands; while Vacation!, which screens on June 20, tracks four urban gals let loose in a sunny seaside resort down South.
Both Mark and Clark previously screened their debut features at Eiff. Mark’s Strange Girls screened there in 2008 and Clark’s Modern Love Is Automatic screened in 2009. Both films also ended up as runners-up in Bad Lit’s annual Movie of the Year award, again Strange Girls in 2008 and Modern Love in 2009. Sadly, these two masterpieces are still unavailable on...

Not every movie on Fox Movie Channel features Technicolor murder, courtroom showdowns or crazies on the loose. I think a break from psycho murderers may be in order. A break that takes us to a time a little closer to our own: a time with pocket calculators and imported cars and liberated women. And into a story that involves hot young doctors in California in the early 90s trying to make it all work in life, love, and medicine. Meet a little story called Vital Signs.
Vital Signs is basically a fun romp of a movie. Watch as good looking young people have sex and struggle with their relationships and career aspirations! Sure, there are some overly melodramatic lines. (Like this one: "Look, Donald, you are a terrific surgeon. But what I need right now is someone who cares about the way I feel!" I didn't make that up.) There's also some cartoonish humor,...

Greetings CriterionCast listeners! Hopefully you were all following my adventures in Austin via Twitter and Facebook over the past week, to read all about which movies I loved, how late the buses were running, and how often I had to recharge my iPhone from all of the tweeting.
On Saturday, Day 2 of SXSW, Rudie and I hopped on Skype while I was hanging out in a hallway in the Convention Center to chat about my experiences so far at SXSW. The audio quality is certainly not very good, and we are not very structured in our discussion. We also spoil the hell out of Kick Ass (both the Comics and the Movie), but not until the end of the podcast, so if you’re interested in staying unspoiled until the movie comes out, you may want to skip that part.
Overall, I had an incredible experience at SXSW this year.

Last night, White Collar may not have given us any clues into the whole Kate, Fowler, and Neal triangle - but "Vital Signs" proved this show is great even without the main storyline.
A couple things we loved about this week's episode:
The interaction between Elizabeth and Peter. Finally we get to see a little emotion here! The end could have been steamier, but at least it felt authentic with the whole non-jealous - jealous emotional interplay. The tricky way they got the doctor to believe he was starting renal failure - bigger clothes (check), rash all over his body (check) and blood in his urine (check)! Great plot. I loved every second of it! The complete trust that Peter and Neal share with each other. Granted, Neal was all doped up, but you can tell there is a bond between these guys. It gets me feeling all warm and fuzzy.

After watching the head-scratching two-hour season premiere of 'Lost,' it's a relief to watch a show like 'White Collar.' Not that this show is two-dimensional, it's just that it's like a palate cleanser to watch a show that doesn't involve time travel, smoke monsters, alternate realities, and healing water pools.
Sure, this episode had organ harvesting and fake kidney removal scams, but it was easy to follow.

Berlin -- The East and the Far East are in focus at this year's Rotterdam International Film Festival, which unveiled its competition lineup Thursday. Of the 15 titles vying for Rotterdam's Tiger Awards, more than half are from Eastern Europe and Asia.
Japan has two contenders: Tsubota Yoshifumi's "Miyoko," a biopic based on the Manga artist Abe Shinichi and his wife Miyoko and "Autumn Adagio" from first-timer Inoue Tsuki, which focuses on the life of a middle-aged nun.
Anocha Suwichakornpong, whose short "Graceland" (2006) was the first Thai film included in Cannes' official selection, makes her feature debut in competition at Rotterdam with "Mundane History," a drama about a family dealing with their wheelchair-bound son. Scwichakornpong will also attend Rotterdam's CineMart, chasing funds for his next project "By the Time it Gets Dark."

[Our thanks to Andrew David Long for the following wrap up of the 2009 Whistler Film Festival.]
Whistler itself is a gorgeous destination, world-famous for skiing and mountain biking, and the Whistler Film Festival (Wff) largely concerns itself with discovering new, independent voices. On those points alone, it's hard to avoid thinking of Sundance, a comparison that can't really be made. Now in its ninth installment, Whistler remains a very intimate festival and is still potentially in the early stages of its development.
Opening Night is at the Whistler Conference Centre, which is licensed, so many of the screenings there are rather more festive. Though the opening speeches are on the long side, the crowd is still happy. While I'm wary of converted screening spaces, the digital projection there is mercifully very good. Back at the hotel, I stare again at the screening schedule and rue the fact that everything screens only once.
Suffice it to say, these few days in Whistler can be packed. Wff is...
