Aside from the wicked appeal of racy teenage drama, one of the key hooks that made the original Cruel Intentions a cult classic was the allure and charm of the relationship dynamics among the lead trio played by Sarah Michelle Gellar (Kathryn Merteuil), Ryan Phillippe (Sebastian Valmont), and Reese Witherspoon (Annette Hargrove). Given the risqué nature of the narrative, without support from a competent cast and proper characterization, the movie could have gone either way, but fortunately, it fared well in the end. The same challenge was faced by the recently released Amazon Prime TV series adaptation of the same name, which followed a similar premise of sex, politics, and influence-oriented powerplay orchestrated by stepsibling duo Lucien and Caroline. Aside from the fact that a story like this shouldn’t have been stretched to an eight-episode series in the first place, the character writing and acting on this occasion feels...

Spiritbox have shared a pro-shot video of their earth-shattering performance of “Soft Spine” with special guest Poppy at the recent Louder Than Life festival in Louisville, Kentucky. The song highlighted a set that was a clear standout among the dozens of bands that performed at the multi-day fest.
“Soft Spine” is Spiritbox’s latest single, and it finds singer Courtney Laplante in full scream mode. During the Canadian metal act’s rain-soaked set at Louder Than Life, Laplante didn’t hold back as she delivered a crushing vocal in front of the massive crowd.

Halfway through the song, Poppy walked out onstage, having just performed her own set, and screamed her lungs out, as well. The two powerful screams then came together for the remainder of the song, whipping the crowd into a frenzy.

Kelly Clarkson’s Kellyoke streak is still going strong. Spiritbox have released the raging new song “Cellar Door” from their upcoming EP, The Fear of Fear, due out on Nov. 3 via Rise Records/Pale Chord.
Musically, the song is one of the heaviest Spiritbox tracks to date, with crushing guitars and thick sonics. Visually, the accompanying video is very Halloween-appropriate, with singer Courtney Laplante and company performing under a full moon.
The Fear of Fear follows the band’s acclaimed 2021 debut album, Eternal Blue, which established Spiritbox as one of metal’s rising acts. The EP also includes the previously released singles “The Void” and “Jaded.”
The Canadian act has spent much of this year on the road, touring in Europe and North America, including their first-ever US headlining tour, which was sold out. The band is currently wrapping up a tour with Shinedown and Papa Roach, with tickets to the remaining shows available here.

Miley Cyrus has been a part of the showbiz industry all her life, so isn’t one to let headlines bother her too much.
The singer spoke to British Vogue about those stories suggesting her smash hit “Flowers” was about her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth, whom she divorced in 2020.

Insisting she has no time to deal with such headlines, Cyrus told the mag: “I never need to be a master at the craft of tricking an audience. It will set itself on fire all by itself.”
She said elsewhere in the chat, “I wouldn’t erase my story or want it to be erased,” referencing the 10-year relationship coming to an end. “Having an interesting life makes for interesting storytelling.

Miley Cyrus is speaking out about hitting headlines in her “Wrecking Ball” era.
The “Flowers” hitmaker got everybody talking after she rode a demolition ball naked in the music video for the track, along with moments like that 2013 MTV Music Video Awards performance with Robin Thicke.
Cyrus recently told British Vogue in a tell-all new interview, “I’m actually not an attention-seeking person, sitting here as a 30-year-old grown woman.”
The “Hannah Montana” star said when discussing her early adulthood moments still being talked about, “I was creating attention for myself because I was dividing myself from a character I had played. Anyone, when you’re 20 or 21, you have more to prove. ‘I’m not my parents.’ ‘I am who I am.’”

Since the double-life Disney sitcom Hannah Montana debuted in 2006, Miley Cyrus has played with the idea of pop star as persona vehicle. She’s had hits with purgative power ballads and candy-coated odes to America; she’s made forays into synthpop, psychedelia, country, and art-rock; and she’s played with the public’s idea of what someone in her position owes the world. Cyrus’ eighth album Endless Summer Vacation, which was teased by the coolly resilient statement of independence “Flowers,” feels like a recap of her career’s 15-plus years,...

Miley Cyrus is standing in the backyard of the Los Angeles home where Frank Sinatra once lived, glowing in the sun as she sings about a man who broke his own heart. She won’t take the blame, but she’s sorry that it happened. The house is the same location where she shot the “Flowers” music video, and it’s also the backdrop of Endless Summer Vacation (Backyard Sessions), the Disney+ special that premiered Friday and finds the singer debuting live performances of songs from her just-released eighth studio Endless Summer Vacation.

Miley Cyrus’ Endless Summer Vacation is the perfect goodbye to messy histories and hello to new opportunities. Teased by the enlightened divorce bop “Flowers,” Cyrus zeroes in on the independence angle as she reflects on past relationships and finally accepts the heartbreak while welcoming in new love for herself and others.
The pop star’s eighth LP is as much a statement of moving on as it is a mature amalgamation of her musical history. There are moments of perfect, on-trend radio pop blended with country, psychedelic rock, and Eighties synths.

“I’m on an island, dirty dancing in the sun,” sings Miley Cyrus on Endless Summer Vacation. The line perfectly captures the mood of a sensual but solitary eighth album served at an unexpectedly slow, controlled sizzle.
Released back in January, the only advance single – “Flowers” – was a poppy, post-break-up anthem. It saw the 30-year-old former child star strut confidently away from her marriage to Liam Hemsworth, proclaiming: “I can love me better than you can.” It sounded as though Cyrus might be sticking with the banging groove she established on 2020’s rock-indebted Plastic Hearts.
But anyone with an eye on the track’s producer, Kid Harpoon, may have caught a whiff of what was to come. The English producer slash songwriter born Thomas Hull won both a Grammy (for album of the year) and a Brit (for songwriter of the year) for his work on Harry Styles’s 2022 album Harry’s House.

Miley Cyrus fans have something special to look forward to this year: a new album - and now we have the official tracklist. On Feb. 27, Cyrus unveiled the titles of all 13 songs on "Endless Summer Vacation" via an Instagram video, which also revealed that the album features none other than Sia and Brandi Carlisle as featured artists.
Back on Jan. 12, Cyrus dropped the album's first single, "Flowers," along with the accompanying music video. The song is an exuberant ode to self-love, with the refrain "I can love me better than you can" hammering home Cyrus's message: she's not sacrificing her peace for anyone.
She also seems to reference ex-husband Liam Hemsworth in the first verse. "We were right 'til we weren't / Built a home and watched it burn," she sings, which appears referring to the home she and Hemsworth shared in Malibu that was destroyed by the 2018 Woosley Fire.

Thirty years ago this month, Aerosmith’s “Janie’s Got a Gun” peaked on the Hot 100, reaching Number Four — just below Paula Abdul’s “Opposites Attract,” Seduction’s “Two to Make It Right” and Rod Stewart’s “Downtown Train.” It was an uncharacteristically dark single for the band, with themes of incest, child abuse, and revenge murder.

As the 2010s come to a close, rappers are beginning to look backwards. Drake put his 2009 mixtape So Far Gone on streaming services for the first time in February; Chance the Rapper followed suit, making several of his releases officially monetizable at the end of June. Drake returned Friday with Care Package, a collection of one-offs and loosies he sprinkled onto the internet earlier this decade. At this point, you should expect Future to put Monster and 56 Nights on Spotify any day now.

After a week of controversy, Jacquees drops his latest “Quemix,” this time taking on Drake’s “Jaded.” What’s a “Quemix,” you ask? It’s what happens when a young Cash Money singer remixes so many popular songs that you might as well give them all a catchy name.
One of Jacquees’s defining traits, besides his penchant for excessive vocal runs, is an adept knowledge of how to exploit another artist’s record. On “Jaded,” the young singer takes 90 seconds to flesh out the world of the original Scorpion track.
