Whether you know her as Tatum Riley from Scream, Pam from Death Proof, Paige Matthews from Charmed, or her work behind the camera on her short film, Dawn, Rose McGowan is a creative force in the horror genre, and her latest starring role, as paranormal investigator (and skeptic) Kelly in The Sound, is no exception. With the new supernatural movie out now in theaters from Samuel Goldwyn Films, we've been provided with an exclusive clip from The Sound to share with Daily Dead readers.
The Sound synopsis: "Kelly (Rose McGowan) is a writer and a skeptic of the supernatural. As a specialist in acoustic physics she uses low frequency tactile sound-waves to debunk reported paranormal activities for her online blog. When presented a new case of a supposedly haunted subway station Kelly sets off to uncover the truth behind the hoax that involves a 40-year-old unexplained suicide. Her investigation takes...

Clare's (Joey King) life takes a turn for the better with a lethal cost for others in Broad Green Pictures' new trailer for Wish Upon, which teases some hair-raising Final Destination-esque death (or near-death) scenes.
"Twelve years after discovering her mother’s suicide, 17-year-old Clare Shannon (Joey King) is bullied in high school, embarrassed by her manic, hoarder father Jonathan (Ryan Phillippe) and ignored by her longtime crush. All that changes when her father comes home with an old music box whose inscription promises to grant its owner seven wishes.
While Clare is initially skeptical of this magic box, she can’t help but be seduced by its dark powers, and is thrilled as her life radically improves with each wish. Clare finally has the life she’s always wanted and everything seems perfect - until the people closest to her begin dying in violent and elaborate ways after each wish.

Inspired by true events that shocked the world and to this day still frighten and fascinate, The House at the End of the Drive was shot on location on Cielo Drive… just a knife’s throw away from the site of the Manson/Tate murders.
Produced by the homeowner David Oman, the movie blends fact with fiction as supernatural forces from the past transport he and his dinner guests through time -- back to the night of the original murders.
The movie recently enjoyed a big red carpet gala premiere in Hollywood at Shockfest (where it took home “Best Writer” honors in the closing Awards). We were lucky enough to catch up with Oman for this exclusive interview.
Dread Central: I’ve been hearing about your haunted house for years, but I never did have the, er, pleasure of visiting. I recall, a few years back, you used to host film screenings and tours.

Memorial Day 2011 is here and while we should all take time to thank a veteran and active servicemen and women, it also means for us TVphiles - lots of good programming. So either settle in with some popcorn or make sure your DVR is ready to go.
There are movie marathons. Syfy is busting out its greatest hits in the giant monster oeuvre on Friday, followed by "Star Trek" movies all weekend. TCM and AMC are showing nothing but military movies, including classics like "All Quiet on the Western Front," "From Here to Eternity" and "Patton."
If marathons are your thing, you've got everything from "Firefly" and "Doctor Who" to "House Hunters" and "How It's Made." And if you're a sports fan, while the NBA playoffs are on hiatus, you can still watch a ton of baseball, the 2011 French Open or the annual Memorial Day race the Indianapolis 500.

On a cold, dark London evening, I had the chance to experience Tod Williams' Paranormal Activity 2 (2010) - released on DVD this coming Monday (28 February) - in the scariest environment imaginable: the downstairs of a South London pub.
This special screening of the film was preceded by a spooky stroll around London’s shadow-filled streets. Led by ghost aficionado Richard Jones (of Most Haunted Live and Haunted History fame), the tour passed through a number of ghoulish historical locations, from the back alleyways around Bank to London Bridge, divulging the dark secrets of a number of haunted houses along the way.
“Location is important in a ghost story,” explains Richard once we'd retreated to the safety of the pub:
“The scariest place I’ve been two is Rait Castle, in Inverness. It’s a ruin in the middle of a field. I was there on a bright summer’s...

Drew Daywalt has made a living working within the horror genre scaring the hell out of people. As you'll soon see in his upcoming Camera Obscura project, the guy really knows his way around the subject of ghosts and hauntings. Recently Drew had the tables turned on him when he spent a couple of evenings aboard a legendary haunted ship, California's Queen Mary -- in the vessel's most haunted room of course.
As you would expect, Drew had camera in hand for his entire stay, and what you'll see below is the footage that he shot and assembled for us here on DC. Footage you won't find anywhere else. Turn down the lights, let your imagination roam free, and enjoy.
The Haunted History of the Queen Mary, as per Wikipedia:
"Ghosts were reported on board the Queen Mary only after being permanently docked in California. Many areas are rumored to be haunted.

The notion of a film using a vérité style and false claims of “it really happened” is nothing new to the horror genre. In 1974, Tobe Hooper’s masterpiece The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, made use of a now famous John Larroquette narration, a group of amateur actors and a gritty shooting style to make mid-70s drive-in movie-goers question the reality of what they had just seen. 1980 brought horror fans the still controversial Cannibal Holocaust, a film that not only invented the now popular “found footage” horror film, but still even today manages to make some of its viewers question if what they are watching is in actuality, “snuff”.
The trend continued into the 1990s with films like the morbidly comical Man Bites Dog (1992), the widely overlooked and heavily flawed The Last Broadcast (1998) and of course the hugely profitable and arguably overrated The Blair Witch Project (1999); a film whose success, though...

We bet you had no idea that such a thing existed! Austin's own Museum of the Weird will be opening up a new exhibit that details the ghostly history of the Texas State Capitol, and Dread Central will be there. Not only that, but our own Paranormal Studies Editor and resident spooky guy, Scott A. Johnson, will be signing copies of his new book about the haunted history of Austin.
From the press release:
Just in time for the Halloween season, 6th Street’s “Museum of the Weird” will be opening a brand new permanent exhibit this month titled “Austin’s Haunted History.” The exhibit will cover the local legends around some of the city’s more famous historic buildings and landmarks, such as the Driskill Hotel and the Paramount Theatre, as well as some of the lesser-known but equally spooky paranormal hotspots around town.

Between the Paranormal Activity midnight screenings that took place last night and Dread Central's Fantastic Fest activities that are ongoing in Austin, TX, this weekend, we're stretched a little thin so thought we'd just cut to the chase with the latest developments on two projects that we're keeping a close eye on: Zebediah de Soto's 3D Night of the Living Dead: Origins and Oren Peli's Area 51. Most of the info on both came to us via Twitter.
First up, following her tease that she was "meeting with the director for 'Night of the Living Dead'" and " need my fans to put out a good vibe for me and say a little prayer", Danielle Harris confirmed that "All you're good luck wishes worked! Guess who's gonna be Barbara???!!" We couldn't be happier for Danielle -- and Zeb, lucky fella -- and think this project is getting off to an excellent start....
