Mattel is renewed its licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, continuing as the studio’s toy licensee in preschool, plush, dolls, vehicles, games, and novelty toy categories.

The deal, which extends a long relationship between the two, covers over 50 brands and franchises including DC Universe, DC Super Friends, Batwheels, Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts, Friends, Seinfeld and Ted Lasso.

The movie reps a concentrated reboot by the studio of the long-in-tooth robots-in-disguise franchise, which has suffered in latter installments from declining ticket sales. This is the second Transformers movie not directed by Michael Bay after 2018’s Bumblebee (though Bay still produces), and looks to distinguish itself from the fray with its introduction of the robotic animals from the Hasbro franchise. Creed II director Steven Caple Jr. is at the helm and the movie stars In the Heights’ Anthony Ramos and The Deuce and Judas and the Black Messiah’s Dominique Fishback. The news this week that the latest instalment in the Fantastic Beasts saga will be titled The Secrets of Dumbledore has been met with a chorus of meh across the geekosphere. The general consensus seems to be that after 2018’s misfiring sequel, The Crimes of Grindelwald, these magical mysteries better be up there with the recipe for KFC if Warner Bros want fans to tune back in for part three.

It’s a pity, because Jk Rowling’s venture into fantasy screenwriting promised so much. Freed from the structures of her Harry Potter novels, with their Malory Towers on magical Kool-Aid veneer, she wrote an opener, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, that offered an enticing vision of the wizarding world’s recent history.

“Beasts of No Nation” marked a historic moment for Netflix as the streaming giant’s first original narrative film production. The film launched in competition at the 2015 Venice Film Festival and then opened October 16, 2015 day-and-date in theaters and on Netflix.
