Keep watching.

I get that this episode may have been a little bland compared to other shows. But personally I say to that, don't give up. This show (especially seasons 2-3) becomes actual must television that is both underrated and misunderstood. Community is a very creative outlook and direction that most shows don't go anywhere near, but because of the pilot a lot of people don't see that. Don't get me wrong it's not necessarily a bad pilot by any means, it's just not anywhere near as original as the show becomes. So pretty much, overall:

An ok pilot that later becomes an awesome show, finish season one, and then tell me it's a bland show, spoiler (you won't) 7/10 pilot.

Quiz
In what would soon become Shirley's catch phrase, Yvette Nicole Brown admitted in an interview that her first utterance late in this episode of "That's nice!", as a response to a line spoken by Jeff Winger, was not actually scripted. In fact, she didn't even say it in character; cameras were still rolling between takes when the actress herself responded to something Joel McHale (not Jeff) had just uttered. Apparently, the editors thought it would make a charming cutaway within the scene, and the writers would add the line to future scripts.

Blooper
Britta claims to have been a Peace Corps volunteer after dropping out of high school. This would not be possible as Peace Corps generally requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree for acceptance into its volunteer program; Britta does not have the background for its non-degree positions.
