It’s been more than seven years since Martin Henderson left ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy after two seasons as a series regular, playing Dr. Nathan Riggs. While the venerable medical drama is known for bringing back cast members, Henderson is one of few who have never been back.

Exclusive: It’s official: Jason George is rejoining Grey’s Anatomy as a series regular. The Station 19 star has closed a deal to join the main cast of the venerable ABC medical drama for the upcoming 21st season.

George has been on Grey’s Anatomy since Season 6 as Ben Warren. He was a series regular from S12-S14 before leaving to help launch spinoff Station 19. For the past seven seasons, George was a series regular on the firefighter drama while making frequent guest appearances on the mothership series, both produced by Shondaland and ABC Signature.

In addition to George, Station 19′s main cast included one more Grey’s Anatomy transplant, Stefania Spampinato who reprised her role as Carina. For now, there are no plans for her to return to the mothership but there is always a possibility for her to pop in as a guest star, something Grey’s Anatomy does frequently with its alums.

It’s been around 20 years since the name Shonda Rhimes first crossed the TV screen. Rhimes and her production company, Shondaland, are still going strong, and for good reason. But out of the eleven shows she’s cranked out, some outrank the others in quality and popularity.

Shonda Rhimes is one of the biggest names in TV today and has been for around two decades. Shortly after her stints in college, she interned at Denzel Washington’s production company and picked up several odd jobs while keeping time for creative writing. She earned a spot to co-write the movie Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, which put her in the Hollywood game and opened the door for her to write more screenplays for hits like Crossroads and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. In the early 2000s, Rhimes took inspiration from a former hospital job to create a show and later a television empire.

Universal Television is developing a series adaptation of Diane Marie Brown’s debut novel Black Candle Women with Jenna Bush Hager, who has a first-look deal with Universal Studio Group, under her production banner Thousand Voices. Hager is teaming with Bel-Air showrunner Carla Banks Waddles and Good Girls creator Jenna Bans, both of whom have overall deals with Utv, for the project.

Waddles is set to write and executive produce the adaptation. Bans will executive produce through her production banner Minnesota Logging Company, along with the company’s Head of Television Casey Kyber. Hager will also executive produce with President of Thousand Voices, Ben Spector.

Black Candle Women introduces four generations of Montrose women—Augusta, Victoria, Willow—who have lived together in their quaint two-story bungalow in California for years. They keep to themselves, never venture far from home, and their collection of tinctures and spells is an unspoken bond between them.

Only a handful of writers in television history have built a bona fide empire. Few who have done so have been women or PoC. Regardless of what you think of her shows, TV royalty Shonda Rhimes deserves respect for her groundbreaking success. Rhimes' workplace dramas have biting dialogue, steamy workplace affairs, and characters fighting tooth and nail to win. There's a passionate fandom surrounding her work, which makes the viewing experience doubly exciting.

Onyx Collective has given a series greenlight to Reasonable Doubt to stream on Hulu. If you find yourself thinking ‘where have I seen that guy before?’ while watching a Mike Flanagan show or film, the answer may well be ‘in another Mike Flanagan show or film’. The horror writer-director is known for his rep company of actors, many of whom appear in multiple roles across various projects. Below is a spoiler-free rundown of the main players in the Flanagan gang’s new Netflix horror series Midnight Mass, about the ripples caused by the arrival of a mysterious priest in a remote North American island community. Hulu has put legal drama Reasonable Doubt on a script-to-series development track with the opening of a writers room. The project, originally set up at ABC during the 2019-20 development season, hails from writer Raamla Mohamed (Scandal), Kerry Washington’s Simpson Street Productions, Larry Wilmore’s Wilmore Films, celebrity attorney Shawn Holley, a member of O.J. Simpson’s legal defense “Dream Team,” and ABC Signature where Mohamed and Washington have been under deals.

Mohamed reworked her original script for streaming as Reasonable Doubt was taken on by Onyx Collective, the recently launched new Disney curated content brand for creators of color and underrepresented voices, led by Tara Duncan, whose output is tailored primarily for Hulu.

The Reasonable Doubt writers room, consisting of all-black staff led by Mohamed, is working on a handful of scripts that will be evaluated by Hulu brass as part of their consideration of a series pick-up for the project.

How to Get Away with Murder Season 6 is coming to ABC, along with its Shondaland partner, Grey's Anatomy.

At this point, it's probably safe to say they've gotten away with the murder.

ABC has ordered How to Get Away with Murder Season 6, according to a Deadline report. Notably, How to Get Away with Murder is being renewed alongside its two Shondaland "Tgit" partners, Grey's Anatomy and Station 19. Grey's Anatomy actually got a two-season pickup for an unprecedented Seasons 16 and 17 and Station 19 will be getting its third season.

According to ABC, however, How to Get Away with Murder Season 6 will be the show's last. Six seasons is a lot of television for any TV show to receive. As you can see above it's on the lower side of Shondaland shows. Still quite impressive!

Grey’s Anatomy star Jason George has joined the cast of the Grey’s firefighter-focused spinoff as a series regular, according to The Hollywood Reporter. George will continue to be a series regular on the upcoming Season 14 of Grey’s — debuting Thursday, Sept. 28 at 8/7c on ABC — until the untitled spinoff begins production; he’s also expected to pop back into Grey’s from time to time.

Off the Map‘s Martin Henderson is taking an alternate route back to Shondaland.

The New Zealand-born actor, best known Stateside as the male lead in Shonda Rhimes’ short-lived 2011 medical drama Off the Map, has nabbed that new series-regular surgeon role on Grey’s Anatomy, TVLine has learned.

Grey's Anatomy fans, get ready for a new face to grace the halls of Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital when the medical drama returns for season 12 in the fall. Martin Henderson has been cast as a doctor, which will be a series regular role, according to TVLine.

Henderson is no stranger to the medical world on TV. He previously played a surgeon, Dr. Ben Keeton, on creator Shonda Rhimes' Off the Map, which only aired for one 13-episode season in 2011 before being cancelled. More recently, he played Ben Gundelach on ABC's Secrets and Lies, which finished its first season in May.

And finally ABC is in the game!  The only network not to pick up a new series (and still the only network not to formally renew a single old series) jumped into the pre-upfronts excitement in a major way on Thursday afternoon, picking up six new dramas, several of which sound rather ambitious.
