This year’s “Wonder Woman” movie is one of 2017’s biggest pop-culture success stories, but NBC’s 2011 attempt at a show about the female superhero was not quite as lucky. Six years ago, Adrianne Palicki starred in a “Wonder Woman” pilot from David E. Kelley that did not get picked up to series despite generating a ton of buzz. “We were a year or two too soon,” Palicki told TheWrap about the TV effort presaging the theatrical dominion of superhero films. “It was right before the main pop of Marvel movies and television series. The movies out, but it wasn’t.

2017-09-01T05:56:57-07:00Will 'Kingsman' Save the Summer for Hollywood?
The American box office went to sleep sometime in the middle of the summer, and it has yet to wake up. The summer season has seen a string of mediocre-to-awful film openings and no blockbuster debuts since Wonder Woman back in June, and ticket sales have been the worst Hollywood has experienced in decades. Hollywood has essentially given up on the remainder of the summer, opting not to release any movies nation-wide over the Labor Day weekend. The industry is holding out hope, though, for a couple of early-fall movies that may have a chance to lure moviegoers back to theaters.

It appears that Bobbi Morse’s (a.k.a. Mockingbird) days are through on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Deadline is reporting that the actress who plays Morse, one time Wonder Woman Adrianne Palicki, has joined the cast of Seth MacFarlane’s untitled space dramedy. In the show, Palicki plays Kelly, ex-wife of MacFarlane’s character, Ed, the pilot of a spaceship. Fox went straight to series with the program, ordering 13 episodes. Palicki had been a series regular on S.H.I.E.L.D., appearing on 31 total episodes. She and co-star Nick Blood had been targeted for a spin-off series, Marvel's Most Wanted, but that show never made it past the pilot stage before getting the kibosh from ABC. As for the MacFarlane series, that show is looking to kick off in the 2017-18 season.

It's grossly underestimated how athletic you need to be to become a stuntperson. This is especially true when you're doing stunts for some of the biggest superhero shows on television! Jessie Graff has been a stuntwoman on Supergirl, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and many other action films, and now she's an American Ninja Warrior!

Celebrated director Jean-Marc Vallee is currently in talks to helm at least the opening episode of the upcoming limited series Big Little Lies for HBO. The filmmaker, who received an Academy Award nomination for Best Achievement in Film Editing for his 2013 film Dallas Buyer’s Club, will be following up such projects as The Young Victoria and Wild with this literary adaptation – the rights to which were snapped up by the respective production companies of Oscar winners Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, with a view to creating a project in which they would star.

Superheroes are indeed all the rage on the small screen, and CBS is getting into the game for the upcoming 2015-16 TV season with Supergirl. Former Wonder Woman star Linda Carter offers her views about what DC/Warner Bros. should do with the new Wonder Woman, who will be played by Gal Gadot. Carter thinks the new Wonder Woman should have “heart” and “humor”.
There haven’t been as many live action versions of Wonder Woman as there have been of Superman or Batman. In fact there have been only three. (Cathy Lee Crosby, Linda Carter and Adrianne Palicki) Even the Black Canary has had more actresses play her. There haven’t been as many live action versions of Wonder Woman as there have been of Superman or Batman. In fact there have been only three. (Cathy Lee Crosby, Linda Carter and Adrianne Palicki) Even the Black Canary has had more actresses play her. If This Is Your First Time Here: Welcome! This is my weekly column where I talk about superhero movie/TV news, rumors, and speculation.
This Week: We're not done sighing and looking into the future this week as it becomes immediately apparent I'll be writing these weekly columns about superhero movies until I die in the zombie apocalypse, which I'll hate because Walking Dead is over-rated garbage. That plus: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. shows Marvel's only progressive win.
I guess it’s best to start at the beginning for this week, and the beginning is the long view.
You and many others have probably stumbled across the infographic created by Comics Alliance’s graphic designer Dylan Todd who consolidated the upcoming slate of superhero movies over the next few years.
Sure, all of these entries might not be as exciting as the others.

Former "Friday Night Lights" star Adrianne Palicki has had multiple brushes with superhero fame -- she appeared in that weird "Aquaman" pilot thing, and played Wonder Woman herself in the David E. Kelley pilot a few years back. Now, Palicki is ready to show off her latest alter ego on "Marvel's Agents of Shield," where her character Bobbi Morse has been revealed as the secret identity of super spy Mockingbird. New photos have appeared over at Marvel.com which show off Palicki's new hi-tech espionage duds. It may look different from the comic book versions, but costume designer Ann Foley had her reasons for changing the template. See Bobbi Morse in her full tactical suit in action in next week's "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," airing Tuesday, October 28 at 9:00 p.m. Et on ABC. But that's not all. Next week's episode of "Agents of Shield" will also include a teaser...

Is Adrianne Palicki's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Costume Better or Worse Than Her Wonder Woman Disaster?
Adrianne Palicki is no stranger to superheroes, but has she ever looked this badass in a comic-inspired costume before? The Friday Night Lights veteran played Wonder Woman in NBC's 2011 ill-fated pilot about the iconic DC Comics character, but the project never made it to series despite plenty of headlines over the costume with its strange-looking pants. Now Palicki is playing a new breed of a hero, a S.H.I.E.L.D. spy, on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and she's got the appropriate new duds to go with the kick-butt role of Bobbi Morse aka Mockingbird. Still, Palicki looks back at her time as Wonder Woman fondly. Although we can't help but think she kind of lucked out…at least where superhero...

A review of tonight's "Marvel's Agents of Shield" coming up just as soon as I maintain my cover as Ron Burgundy... Operation: Improve "Agents of Shield" has been working in two fronts this season. The main, and most important one, has been creating more interesting contexts for the pre-existing characters like Coulson, Fitz and Ward. At the same time, the show is introducing a lot of new characters on both the Shield and Hydra side of things. Some are still fairly minor in the scheme of things — Mac's primary function this week is to let Fitz subconsciously ogle his superhuman physique — but on the whole, the show has nicely balanced new and old, so that the show feels densely populated, but not too busy. It helps when you have some excellent actors like Kyle MacLachlan and Adrianne Palicki involved. Palicki's long been a superheroine-in-waiting — one of the worst things about...

Since the announcement that fan favorite Mockingbird (a comic book Avenger) would be joining this season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D fans have looked forward to seeing how one time Wonder Woman, Adrianne Palicki, would portray the character. Check out the (eventual) superhero's introduction in next week's episode "A Hen in the Wolf House"! "A Hen in the Wolf House" - Coulson's team is up against the beautiful and deadly Bobbi Morse--Security Chief for Hydra. Meanwhile, Skye's father forces Raina to reunite him with his daughter at any cost, on "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," Tuesday, October 21 (9:00-10:00 p.m., Et) on the ABC Television Network. "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." stars Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward, Chloe Bennet as Skye, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz...

Well here's a little surprise. Eddie Murphy doesn't work often, and when he does, it's usually in his comedy wheelhouse. And thus he goes down the drama road even less, but just like that, the actor has joined the next untitled movie from Bruce Beresford ("Driving Miss Daisy," "Breaker Morant"). He replaces Samuel L. Jackson, playing "a cook who is hired by a dying man to prepare meals for his girlfriend and her daughter when he passes." The script is from Susan McMartin ("Californication," "Two And A Half Men") and production begins next month. [If] Gal Gadot is suddenly the woman of the hour. Now part of Warner Bros. DC universe as Wonder Woman, she's on Hollywood's radar in a big way, and has been cast in Timur Bekmambetov's "Ben-Hur" remake. She joins Jack Huston, Toby Kebbell, and Morgan Freeman, taking the role of love interest Esther. Meanwhile, Pedro Pascal,...

Pedro Pascal and Gal Gadot are definitely on the rise. Pascal joined the cast of "Game of Thrones" last year and quickly made Oberyn Martell one of the best characters on a show already filled with great characters. Gadot is about to play the premiere female superhero Wonder Woman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and the just announced standalone Wonder Woman and two-part Justice League films. Well, both actors are circling the forthcoming Ben-Hur remake, directed by Timur Bekmambetov, to add to their resumes. Pascal will play Pontius Pilate, and Gadot will take on the role of Esther, a slave who is Ben-Hur's love interest. The cast already includes Jack Huston as the titular prince betrayed into slavery, Toby Kebbell as his betrayer, and Morgan Freeman as probably someone wise. I do not understand why this story needs to be told again. The 1959 version, starring Charlton Heston,...

Following the barrage of news about Warner Bros. Pictures' release plans for their DC Comics big screen ventures, which included a 2017 release date for Wonder Woman, the star of the female superhero flick is lining up another lead role before she has to whip out her lasso again. THR has word that Gal Gadot is in early talks to take the female lead role in Paramount and MGM's co-production of Ben-Hur, a new adaptation of the classic Lew Wallace novel of the same name from 1880. Jack Huston has already taken the lead role of the Jewish prince betrayed by his friend Messala (Toby Kebbell) and now the cast is filling out. Gadot would play Esther, a slave that Ben-Hur falls in love with on his journey, but a deal isn't done yet. Also in talks for a role, according to Deadline, is last season's fan favorite "Game of Thrones" star...

Gal Gadot is racking up one high profile role after another. Our future “Wonder Woman” is in early talks for Esther, the female lead in the upcoming “Ben’Hur.” Meanwhile, “Game of Thrones” breakout star Pedro Pascal is also joining the film, eyeing the role of Pontius Pilate. The film is based on “Ben Hur: A Tale of the Christ,” a 1880 novel by Lew Wallace. The drama follows Judah Ben-Hur (Jack Huston), a nobleman wrongly accused of a crime and ending up a slave for years, because his best friend Messala (Toby Kebbell) betrays him. He returns for vengeance for the [...]

Maybe the world doesn’t really need another Ben-Hur, but if it has to have one it may as well feature an intriguing cast. Jack Huston, Toby Kebbell, and Morgan Freeman signed on for the Timur Bekmambetov-directed epic last month, and future Wonder Woman Gal Gadot nabbed the female lead yesterday. As of today, the latest addition to the cast […]

Just hours after we reported Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot is in talks for the female lead in MGM's Ben-Hur, Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal is now in talks to play Pontius Pilate.
Pontius Pilate plays a significant part in the Ben-Hur remake, which will be much more faithful to Lew Wallace's original 1880 novel, which told the parallel tale of Jesus Christ alongside Ben-Hur's story. In the Bible, Pontius Pilate is the prefect from Judea who oversaw the trial of Jesus Christ and ordered his crucifixion.
Jack Huston is playing the title character, who was betrayed by his longtime friend Messalla (Toby Kebbell), and sold into slavery. Morgan Freeman plays Ben-Hur's new mentor, who teaches him to become a chariot racer, a skill which will come in handy during the epic chariot race towards the end of this remake, mirroring the original Ben-Hur's iconic finale.

This morning, we heard news that MGM’s remake of the 1959 swords-n-sandals epic, Ben-Hur, had nearly bagged itself a leading lady. Wonder Woman Gal Gadot might be signing on the dotted line to join a cast that so far, consists entirely of chaps. And now we can add another bloke to the ever-expanding call sheet, as Game Of Thrones star Pedro Pascal is also in negotiations for a juicy role.
Earlier this year, Pascal fought valiantly as Oberyn Martell in season four of HBO’s medieval fantasy series. His showiest moment alas came during his last scene, as he fought the hulking monstrosity known as The Mountain. He was an immensely likeable character and it’s a shame we won’t see him return to Westeros. However, if he signs on for Ben-Hur, he’ll still be kitted out in the finest period garb as he’s slated to play Pontius Pilate.

To date, we have seen some big screen characters make appearances on ABC's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. like Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif, but we have yet to see characters originating on the small screen jumping to the feature film world. That could change though and we may know who the first contender could be. The Supergirl TV show is officially a “go”. We heard a couple of weeks ago that Arrow and The Flash executive producer Greg Berlanti was developing a possible TV series based on the DC comics heroine, and now Deadline reports that CBS has given a big series commitment to Supergirl. The drama will be written by Berlanti and Ali Adler (The New Normal, No Ordinary Family), with Adler also acting as an executive producer on the series. Apparently CBS’ straight-to-series commitment is bigger than the one Fox recently gave to the upcoming Gotham, which is a prequel of sorts to the Batman storyline. This continues the expansion of comic book adaptation fever into the TV world, which is becoming more and more crowded with small screen iterations of famous superheroes. More on Supergirl after the jump. For those unfamiliar, the character of Supergirl was introduced in the comics world in 1959. She is,...

Probably the most exciting Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 announcement to come out of San Diego Comic Con a while back was the casting of former Wonder Woman Adrianne Palicki as major Marvel superheroine, Mockingbird. Since that though, we haven't heard much about how Bobbi Morse is expected to be introduced, or what the long-term plans for the character are. In an interview with Cbr, showrunners Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen give us some idea of what we can expect. "Well, we're very excited to have the beloved character, Mockingbird, on the show. Adrianne Palicki was a perfect fit for the role. She was someone we pictured from the beginning. It's thrilling to have a nice, sort of skilled, sexy spy in the mix. And I think with the handful of characters that we have added to the show, it's just to illustrate what the new S.H.I.E.L.

This Week: DC does some good things with TV that make them win the week as Marvel gears up for a month of marketing to your children. Plus, The Rock says who he's playing in the Dcu and my power went out so I'm writing this all from my phone. Fun!
Clark! Clark Kent!
One of the things I liked most in terms of changed Man of Steel made to the superhero mythology of Superman is that Lois Lane knows Kal-El first and Clark Kent second. It really, really helps with keeping this world semi-grounded in reality while still allowing Clark to wander around with glasses on, utterly fooling fools about his true identiy.

Actress Adrianne Palicki, the former 'Wonder Woman' for producer David E. Kelly's TV pilot of the same name, has been cast in the second season of "Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D." as Marvel Comics' character 'Bobbi Morse', aka 'Mockingbird':
The character 'Mockingbird' debuted in a 'Ka-Zar' story in Marvel's "Astonishing Tales" #6 (June 1971) written by Gerry Conway and illustrated by Barry Smith.
In subsequent publications, creators including Roy Thomas, Len Wein, Neal Adams, Mike Friedrich, Archie Goodwin, George Evans, Steven Grant and Mark Gruenwald also made significant contributions to the development of the character.
Mockingbird appeared as a regular character throughout the 2010-2013 New Avengers series, from issue #1 (August 2010) through its final issue #34 (January 2013).

Adrianne Palicki will be joining the cast of Marvel’s Agents of Shield as Bobbi Morse, better known as Mockingbird. The character has no superpowers, but was given a serum increasing her strength. Given the existence of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe it seems reasonable to assume that the two serums may be related.
Palicki has starred in GI Joe: Retaliation, and was almost cast as Wonder Woman in a failed 2011 TV series. She is clearly no stranger to the genre, so her inclusion could provide an impetus to further ignite the series. Mockingbird is not a major comic book star, but by using the character in the TV series Marvel could be testing the water in order to discover how audiences react to the more obscure characters.
