Sony Music’s Global Podcast Division today announced the acquisition of podcast production company Neon Hum, streamlining the company’s U.S. creative division and broadening its work for hire services under Neon Hum Founder/CEO Jonathan Hirsch.

In his new role as Vice President, Global Podcasts and Head of U.S. Creative, Hirsch will spearhead the U.S. creative business and report directly to Steve Ackerman, Executive Vice President and Head of Global Podcasts at Sony Music. With the acquisition, Sony Music will leverage Neon Hum’s production expertise to continue to develop award-winning premium podcasts for its subscription channel The Binge and across its always-on entertainment slate. In addition, Sony Music will further expand its work-for-hire business to provide more services beyond audio production for its client and branded podcasts.

Exclusive: Sony Music’s Global Podcast Division has acquired podcast production company Neon Hum.

Neon Hum is behind series including Dinner’s On Me, led by Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson and true-crime franchise Smoke Screen.

The move comes five years after Sony Music announced a strategic investment in Neon Hum, which was founded by Jonathan Hirsch.

As part of the move, Hirsch becomes VP, Global Podcasts and Head of U.S. Creative at Sony Music’s Global Podcast Division, reporting to Steve Ackerman, EVP and Head of Global Podcasts at Sony Music.

The deal will allow Sony Music to broaden its work for hire services; the company is responsible for series such as Max’s And Just Like That… The Writers Room and Discovery+’s The Rise and Fall of LuLaRoe. It will also continue to develop podcasts for Sony Music’s subscription channel The Binge.

Pup have released a pair of B-sides from the sessions for their 2022 album The Unraveling Of Puptheband. Titled “How to Live with Yourself” and “Smoke Screen,” the previously unreleased tracks arrive as the band is touring Europe (grab tickets here).

“How to Live with Yourself” was the first song written for The Unraveling and came out of the band looking to “start with something simple and fun,” vocalist/guitarist Stefan Babcock explained in a statement. As such, the song features upbeat, catchy melodies and lyrics about learning to “cut the cord” from a relationship, capturing “exactly what this band is about.”

In contrast, “Smoke Screen” slows down the pace without being any less hooky: “I’m just an old cord you don’t need anymore/ I wanna love you but you’ve changed.” Babcock said the song came from a riff by bassist Nestor Chumak, who wanted to do a “sludgey” version of Pup.

Desiree, formally Dermaphoria, first premiered at the East End Film Festival to a great response and marked Ross Clarke’s directorial debut. “Cinemazero” labeled the film’s visuals “stunning” while “Smoke Screen” compared the film to Mullholland Drive. It has since played at numerous film festivals all over the world and this month was widely released on VOD and DVD. 'My Name Is Earl' star reportedly failed a field sobriety test after getting pulled over for a traffic violation.

"My Name Is Earl" star Jaime Pressly was arrested on Wednesday evening in Santa Monica, California, for suspicion of driving under the influence.

The bust was first reported by TMZ and confirmed by MTV News. A spokesperson for the Santa Monica Police Department told us that she was pulled over late Wednesday, but declined to state exactly when and where the arrest took place. Pressly reportedly failed a field sobriety test, though the spokesperson declined to say if Pressly had taken a breathalyzer test.

According to TMZ, the actress was pulled over around 11 p.m. for a traffic violation. She was arrested and held on $15,000 bail. The spokesperson would not comment on whether or...
