Here at Et, we’re obsessed with a lot of things -- and here is what we’re most excited about this week:
Why We’re Obsessed With ‘The Wine Show’
Pour another glass because our favorite import -- Matthew Goode -- is back with a second season of The Wine Show, Sky Vision’s food and travel magazine series, which moves the action from Italy to the South of France. Available on in the U.S. on Hulu, the show became a favorite among viewers thanks to the bromance between Goode and co-host Matthew Rhys and their journey through the heart of Italy in search of tasty wine and lasting memories. Joining Goode (who also stars on The Crown season two) is James Purefoy, an equally English and handsome actor, who steps in for Rhys. This season, two hosts are tasked with finding a case of wine to match a six-course French lunch cooked by Stephane...

"Fetch" may never have happened, but "Mean Girls" certainly did become a thing.
Released 10 years ago this week (on April 30, 2004), the high school comedy not only gave Lindsay Lohan her best role and made a star out of Rachel McAdams, but it also launched the movie careers of several of its performers, from writer/co-star Tina Fey to Daniel Franzese (Damian). An instant box office hit, "Mean Girls" went on to become a cult favorite for a generation of post-millennials, full of endlessly quotable lines of dialogue and wise social advice for navigating the jungles of high school and beyond.
Still, as many times as you've re-watched "Mean Girls," there still may be much you don't know about it -- from who almost played the now-iconic characters, to who really came up with Kevin's Mathlete rap, to the filmmakers' battles with the censors. Read on for true tales and burn-book secrets behind "Mean Girls.

While I wouldn’t exactly say Winona Ryder has been hiding under a rock these last few years, I will point out she’s been very selective with her roles. The actress has mainly been sticking to more independent films (The Letter), but if she does appear in a mainstream film, it’s usually for a smaller part (Star Trek). This isn’t a bad thing though, as most of her decisions have been paying off mightily, and her performance as Richard Kuklinski’s wife in The Iceman is no different.
I had the chance to catch up with Winona while she was in New York City promoting The Iceman, as I sat down with a few other journalists for a quick roundtable interview with the Hollywood starlet. It was a very interesting interview to say the least, as we discussed her thoughts on whether Kuklinski’s wife actually knew he was a killer,...

Winona Ryder has remained relatively out of the limelight for the past 10 years, but this week the actress hit the red carpet looking better than ever.
Ryder made a red carpet appearance on Monday evening in New York City for a special screening of Henry Alex Rubin's new thriller, "Disconnect," according to Us Weekly. The 41-year-old looked absolutely stunning in a black-on-black ensemble paired with bright red lips, soft curls and sheer pumps.
Some might not call it a comeback, per se.
The actress -- who shot to stardom in the '80s with hits like "Beetlejuice" and "Heathers" -- did attend some press events while promoting "Black Swan" in 2010 as well as "The Letter" and "Frankenweenie" in 2012.
Still, Ryder has stayed under the radar following her 2001 shoplifting conviction for snatching $4,760 worth of goods from a Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills. Since the embarrassing blunder, she has kept to herself,...

James Franco has taken on a number of indulgent projects in recent years, but at long last it seems he found one with a twisted, almost recursive concept that has more good parts than bad. The Letter, Jay Anania’s film about the personal nature of creating a work of art (in this case a play) follows an aspiring playwright Martine (Winona Ryder) whose mind is poisoned with suspicion by Tyrone (Franco), an actor in her production, that his two co-stars, her boyfriend Raymond (Josh Hamilton) and the leading lady Anita (Marin Ireland), are keeping a secret from her much like the characters she’s written for them.

Well, you gotta give the folks over at advertising firm Cheil USA a hand, because if you're going to come up with a campaign around the Samsung Galaxy Note touting its multitasking capabalities, there are few celebrities more equipped to deliver that message than James Franco. Hell, in the past week or so alone we've seen a pretty shitty trailer for the indie flick "The Letter" (quantity isn't always quality), and learned that he's casting up his feature film adapatation of William Faulkner's "As I Lay Dying" and producing some kind of art project about fame riffing on himself and Lindsay Lohan. Anyway, for this ad, he directs and stars in a meta spot that finds him letting us know just how this fancy new product helps him solve math problems, get in pillow fights, make breakfast, and diagnose strep throat or whatever. The concept was apparently tailor made for Franco,...

Overlooked Trailers: 'Toys in the Attic', 'Stage Fright', 'The Letter' and Plenty of Toronto Entries
Photo: Hannover House This week's edition of Overlooked Trailers has damn near every single kind of movie you could imagine from low-budget found footage horror, to drama, to thriller, to sci-fi, to martial arts, documentary and stop-motion animation. The first trailer below is for Toys in the Attic, an English adaptation of the 2009 French stop motion film, which looks like more of a darker version of Toy Story told through stop-motion rather than CGI. After that is Deadfall, a thriller starring Eric Bana, Olivia Wilde, Charlie Hunnam, Sissy Spacek and Kris Kristofferson, which is to say it has a loaded cast, but wasn't able to land a major distributor. Could still be a decent watch however. Stage Fright is a curious movie about the condemnation of some kids that are making a movie based on some found footage material. It's working with Paranormal Activity's "Demand It" marketing tactic, but...

It’s been awhile since Winona Ryder, star of a vast array of films from “Edward Scissorhands” to “Girl Interrupted,” has really taken the lead in a picture – lately she’s mostly been a supporting player in films like “Black Swan,” “Star Trek,” and her upcoming reteaming with director Tim Burton on the stop-motion “Frankenweenie.” Unfortunately, if the trailer for her upcoming return to leading lady status “The Letter” is any indication of the film that follows, we’re not quite sure we’re ready to have her back. In the film Ryder's cast as a playwright who is beginning to lose touch with reality for no discernible reason, all while her character Martine begins to fall for the mysterious Tyrone (James Franco), which may or may not have anything to do with why she’s mentally unraveling. It seems like a convoluted mess, and looks like it was shot...

Late last year, we reported that Jose Angel Santana filed a lawsuit against Nyu, claiming that he was fired for giving James Franco a low grade, despite the fact that the actor missed 12 out of 14 classes. The lawsuit also states that other professors, like Jay Anania, favored Franco in order to be hired by him to write and direct "The Letter" film. Today, we have the trailer for "Letter," which not only stars Franco, but also Winona Ryder. Lionsgate has already picked up the film for distribution, but a release date has yet to be set. It's likely that a theatrical release will be skipped in favor of an On Demand one. Check out the trailer below. Plot: Martine Jamison (Ryder) is a NY theatre director beginning rehearsals for a new play starring her boyfriend Raymond (Josh Hamilton) opposite a young beauty. Ever think that Winona Ryder always looks like she’s creeped out about something? Ever think that James Franco always looks kind of creepy? Then The Letter is the movie for you. Because, from the looks of its new trailer, it seems like that’s pretty much the only thing the movie is about. Sure, there’s some talk about bad dreams, and some talk about poisoning people, but what’s definitely clear is that Ryder spends 90% of the movie either looking creeped out or screaming, and Franco spends 100% of the movie staring at people like a total weirdo (or doing unseen things to their nether regions while staring like a total weirdo). Given the vague nature of the advertising, I guess we need to turn to Lionsgate’s official synopsis for the film to discern what it’s really about. According to their blurb, “Martine Jamison (Winona Ryder) is a NY theatre director beginning rehearsals for...

Have you ever directed a play that stars your significant other and suddenly found yourself obsessed with one of your actors until you slowly think you're losing your mind? Such is the story of The Letter (formerly The Stare), which stars Winona Ryder as the director in question and James Franco is the actor with questionable motives.
The thriller is directed by Jay Anania (Shadows and Lies), who was Franco's former teacher and an instructor at Nyu, and a new trailer is now online for the movie, likely to promote the movie's premiere at the Cincinnati Film Festival next month. Lionsgate is also set to release the movie, likely via VOD, but currently there's no release date, so enjoy the synopsis in the mean time.

"I'm taunting them," James Franco says matter-of-factly (around the fifty-second mark) in the trailer for The Letter, the latest effort from his Nyu pal Jay Anania. The quote is delivered as Tyrone, the mysterious young actor who shows up to torment Winona Ryder in a Ruby Sparks–meets–Black Swan high-camp thriller, but it could apply as easily to Franco, who is back in full General Hospital mode — crazy eyebrows, overdramatic stares, and a moment that definitely looks like an offscreen fingerbang, Don Draper style. "Performance art" or "favor to a friend": You decide! (And while you are at it, pour one out for poor Josh Hamilton, who only appears in this trailer long enough to get socked in the face.)...

Winona Ryder had one of her best roles in years in Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan, playing the former superstar at the ballet company who's eventually dethroned by Natalie Portman. The thriller genre clearly worked out for Ryder that time, but it's unclear if it can work a second time, as evidenced by the new trailer for The Letter, in which Ryder and James Franco appear to be starring in a film slightly more professional looking than a student film. Actually, I've seen student films that look way more put together than this. See what I mean in the trailer below. $sb("ci030_fb9cf3e6d221e680b83ee4d792b572fd",{"sbFeed":{"partnerId":39,"type":"video","contentId":532801,"cname":"cinemablend"},"style":{"width":480,"height":264}}); google.load("ima", "1"); The official plot says Ryder's character "has periods of disorientation ...

One of our favorite things about James Franco is the fact that he's not only really cool, but he's also kind of creepy. You know, he's super intense and seems to always be laughing at some private joke that only he understands, but at the same time, he's really hot. It's a hard combo to pull off, but somehow Franco does it.
Which is good for us as film fans, but maybe not quite so good for Winona Ryder in the new trailer for "The Letter."
Ryder, you see, plays a playwright hard at work on a brand new project. And luckily for her, Franco is there to play her leading man. There's just one problem: He may be stalking and trying to kill her.
Then again, it's quite possible the whole thing is taking place in Ryder's increasingly unbalanced mind. You know those wacky writers and their fragile hold on reality.

It looks as if James Franco has been offered the opportunity to undertake optional work in the formerly The Stare – now called The Letter, psychological thriller directed by one of his teachers, Jay Anania, who is head of directing at the graduate film school at New York University.
It’s obvious throughout this trailer that the budget must have been quite small, though the fact that the film stars big name stars like Franco and Winona Ryder, but generally they make the movie look even cheaper.
Josh Hamilton, Marin Ireland, and Katherine Waterston co-star in the feature penned and directed by fellow prof, Anania.
Ryder stars as a playwright who starts to lose touch with reality, while Franco will play an actor who’s in the playwright’s production.
It looks like The Letter will be released On Demand. Therefore, the flick doesn’t have an official release date.

When one is involved with as many films as James Franco is, there’s bound to be a number of misfires, especially in the low-budget arena he likes to play around in. While he has Sam Raimi‘s major blockbuster Oz: The Great and Powerful coming next spring, there’s another upcoming film that’s firmly on the other side of the spectrum. Re-teaming with his Shadows & Lies director Jay Anania, we’ve got the first trailer for The Letter today, which follows Winona Ryder as a playwright who starts to go crazy thanks to her leading man, played by Franco. It looks like some sort of joke from the first frame, almost as if one of Franco’s General Hospital-esque gags. I applaud the guy for trying everything, but I wish he had just a bit of control. Pretty confident that this one won't air on the Disney Channel.
Variety reports that Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens, two of the last decade's biggest tween starlets, are in talks to join the cast of the dark Harmony Korine film, "Spring Breakers." They would potentially join the also-negotiating James Franco and Emma Roberts in the flick about four college students who rob a restaurant to pay for their spring break trip, and the scamming drugs and arms dealer with whom they get entangled.
Franco is certainly turning toward dark roles, with turns in the upcoming mental illness-themed dramas, "Maladies" and "The Stare," as well as "Cherry," about a porn star who gets entangled with a drug addicted lawyer.
Hudgens is making her first real dark film in "Gimme Shelter," in which she plays a pregnant teen who turns to the streets in search of survival. Pictures of her with short,...

From anyone but Harmony Korine, known for scripting Kids and directing Gummo, Julien Donkey-Boy, and Trash Humpers, the plot for Spring Breakers would sound like a wild piece of material. For Korine, it almost sounds like a family film. The story follows four late-teen girls who rob a restaurant in order to finance a spring break trip, and end up enlisted to kill the rival of their drug dealer. Now Emma Roberts is in talks to play one of the four girls, and James Franco is attached to play the dealer. Variety [1] describes the plot: [Spring Breakers] follows four college-aged girls who rob a fast food restaurant to afford spring break in Florida, only to get arrested upon their arrival... Alien, a rapping drug and arms dealer, bails them out and entices them to kill his arch-rival, a murderer who is appropriately named Arch. I can see this turning into quite a scary piece of work,...

James Franco has signed on to Harmony Korine's indie film Spring Breakers. The plot centers on four college girls who rob a fast food joint so they afford to go on spring break in Florida. To shock of no one, the idiotic plan fails and the girls get arrested. They're bailed out by Franco's character, "Alien, a rapping drug and arms dealer who bails them out and entices them to kill his arch-rival, a murderer who is appropriately named Arch." Variety adds that Emma Roberts is in talks to play one of the co-eds, "Candy, a southern brunette who feeds off danger." If the plot doesn't devolve into an over-stylized quirk pile, Spring Breakers sounds like it could be a fun little flick. Franco will shoot his part over the course of two weeks during spring break in Florida. Franco recently dropped out of The Iceman, and is currently...

Between his stint as the Wizard of Oz, burgeoning directorial career, foray into porn production, educational pursuits, art projects and writing, something had to give for James Franco.
According to Just Jared, Franco has pulled out of the upcoming film "The Ice Man," in which he was set to star as mentor to Michael Shannon, who would play mob hitman Richard "The Iceman" Kuklinski. The film may now completely fall apart.
Of course, he has no problem with on-screen killing; he plays an eccentric serial killer in "General Hospital," a role he's reprising this season, and will play a real life serial killer in "The Night Stalker," due out next year.
The star also recently dropped out of what would have been his Broadway debut, "Sweet Bird of Youth."
Don't worry, though, as there will be plenty of Franco to go around. He's directing an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's "Child of God,...
