Set in Mauritius, this is a really quite unimaginative action thriller that is largely ruined by some serious overacting by a baddie (who thinks he's Travis Fimmel) and by some fairly shameless heavy hints that their homeland is very much in the ambit of the Chinese. It's those latter folks that agree to exhibit a priceless jade on the island, and it's down to policeman "Shaw" (Nad Sham) to lead the team protecting it. It's here that the wheels start to come off the story. It's pitch black so they decide to take it through dense forest where, of course, they are ambushed and it gets pinched. Now disgraced, his boss is forced to allow "Yuan" (Naomi Willow) to help with the investigation to track it down. The remainder of this might have made for a passable detective yarn had it not been for the really bad acting, clunky writing and a tendency from the director to attempt to create pace and excitement by messing about with the speed of the film. The car chase looks like a commercial for Porsche and/or Mercedes Benz, the combat scenes are choreographed so as to make any decent attempt at continuity all but impossible - and that shows, and Willow's performance is just plain wooden. There's nothing remotely original to it and though only eighty minutes long, it proves to be a long struggle to understand why it's in a cinema at all. Some nice views of Mauritius but the rest of this is poor and derivative, sorry.
This movie is bad in every aspect. It has a horrible script, acting, directing, continuity, even the sound. The script could have been written better by a 4th grader. The acting is completely over the top. The continuity was awful on multiple levels. There is one chase scene where from one shot to the next the road is different. First, it's a one lane road, then a two lane, then back to a one lane, and so on. They are shooting at the bad guys, get on a boat and still shooting. These pistols must have held 50 or 60 rounds each. They never ran out of bullets! If there is nothing else to watch, watch reruns of Green Acres it is better!
Agents works in comparison to many Hollywood action thrillers, particularly when it comes to its real stunts and grounded approach to action. While Hollywood often relies heavily on CGI and special effects for action sequences, Agents takes a more authentic route, showcasing real, physically demanding stunts that feel gritty and immersive. The choreography and execution are on par with some of the best action films, offering a rawness that Hollywood's polished, sometimes over-produced action scenes can lack.
In terms of pacing and tension, Agents keeps a sharp focus on character development and story, which often gets sidelined in larger Hollywood blockbusters. While Hollywood action films tend to prioritize spectacle, Agents finds a great balance between thrilling action and emotional depth, making the stakes feel personal and meaningful.

Agents (2024) on Apple TV+ is a thrilling, action-packed spy drama that keeps you on the edge of your seat. With stellar performances and strong character development, the show offers a perfect balance of suspense and emotional depth. The action sequences are well-choreographed, and the storyline is full of unexpected twists. Visually stunning and emotionally resonant, Agents goes beyond the typical espionage genre to explore themes of loyalty and sacrifice. A must-watch for fans of smart, gripping thrillers, good for a chilled night watch. Enjoy it with everyone, no cringe scenes. A good movie, that's it and the locations are wonderful!
One of the major aspects that Agents movie excels in compared to many Hollywood action movies is its use of real stunts and practical effects. While Hollywood often relies on CGI to create visually stunning, over-the-top action sequences, Agents leans into the rawness of physical stunts, creating action scenes that feel grounded and real. From car chases to hand-to-hand combat, the show features high-intensity sequences where you can clearly see the actors performing their own stunts, adding to the authenticity of the experience. If you're looking for studio-grade CGI, this movie may not be for you.
