Remember when TV’s biggest thrill was seeing what creature, villain, or supernatural horror awaited us every week?

Shows like The X-Files, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Supernatural built entire fan bases around that “monster of the week” formula, and they had no mercy when it came to scaring the hell out of us.

They weren’t about long, winding plotlines; they were about delivering nightmares straight to your screen, one horrifying episode at a time.

But somewhere along the way, serialized TV took over, and those monsters we once dreaded started to vanish into the shadows — taking with them the kind of scares that keep you up at night, listening for creaks on the floorboards.

Hollywood is reeling following the shocking death of One Direction’s Liam Payne, with celebrities paying tribute to the singer on social media on Wednesday. Payne, who was 31, died after falling from a hotel room in Argentina Wednesday evening.

Director André Øvredal has set up his next horror project, with Deadline reporting that Øvredal has signed on to direct an untitled horror movie for Walter Hamada’s 18hz Productions.

Deadline details in this week’s exclusive report, “Zachary Donohue and T.W. Burgess penned the script for the new project, which has a logline that’s being kept secret.”

Gary Dauberman (Salem’s Lot) will also produce the untitled horror movie.

Via 18hz Productions, Hamada is slated to produce several mid-budget horror films for Paramount Pictures per year. Other projects in the works include Primate and Familiar.

Hamada, who recently left WB/DC, has a ton of horror cred from his time at New Line, producing countless horror movies including the Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street remakes as well as The Conjuring and its various spinoffs and the 2017 adaptation of It.

The 81st Venice Film Festival comes to a close today with the awards ceremony, held at the Sala Grande in the Palazzo del Cinema.

A spinoff series for the sitcom A Different World is now in early development at Netflix. Sources indicate that it will follow Dwayne and Whitley's daughter as she attends Hillman College. The project is led by writer/executive producer Felicia Pride, known for her work on the reboot of Bel-Air and Grey's Anatomy, along with executive producers Debbie Allen, Mandy Summers, Tom Werner, Gina Prince-Bythewood, and Reggie Bythewood.

Witchs Delight is the primary reagent that you need to find and craft to recruit and upgrade familiars in Hades 2. The Cannes Film Festival has long been like a second home for Romanian filmmakers, and actor-turned-director Emanuel Pârvu will continue that tradition when he ascends the steps of the Lumière Theater on May 17 for the premiere of “Three Kilometers to the End of the World,” which will compete for the Palme d’Or.

Pârvu’s third feature follows 17-year-old Adi (Ciprian Chiujdea), who’s spending the summer in his hometown in the Danube Delta. As he prepares for final exams and gets ready to start a new life, Adi is brutally attacked on the street, turning his world upside-down. Suddenly, the seemingly tranquil façade of his village begins to show its cracks, as Adi finds himself at odds with the customs and mores of his community.

Axel Falcon, the latest film from Bazz Hancher, screened at Horror-On-Sea with Darkly Took the Light, a documentary about the difficulties and personal tragedies that surrounded the making of the film, and the toll it took on Hancher and his interest in continuing to make films – a documentary I hope eventually also gets a physical release alongside the film.

Hancher issues range from the usual problems of indie filmmaking such as cast and crew members dropping out, to people connected to the film or the filmmakers being murdered or suffering serious illness.
