With this anime being an original romcom anime, it's one of the best I have ever watched.
First of all, on its art style. The showa style of drawing and the uniqueness on character designs really showed off. Since it's s rare in this day that anime use showa style as the drawing style, and this move is what makes the anime special, creating a nostalgia feeling for people who watch (especially thoae who watch many old school animes).
Furthermore, the uniqueness of characters, from the character being an alien or even a talking dog, to a unemployed man with a son that likes to wear dresses, didn't create awkwardness but some of the funniest plots and reactions between characters. Also with 12 episodes, the anime rounded up most of the characters and made each character have their own specialness and backstories.
Then talking about the message of the anime, "To be who you want to be and don't be bounded by values and other people", it's a really meaningful message since most people in the society still can't be themselves because of the eyes of other people or the norms of societies, especially in Asia. So this anime really brought out a good message.
Moreover, as a romcom, Astro Note used some old school yet unique jokes to make us have a great laugh. With the funny paets being such as: some weird facial expressions showing from characters all of a sudden, some crazy contrasts in terms of personalities and who they are (their jobs and dreams), with aliens being literally animals who speak, etc. These combined created some of the best chemical reactions among characters, which made me laugh basically each episode.
Furthermore on the romantic side of the anime. With just 12 episodes, you can't really say much about the romantic developments or the characters. Some may judge that it lacked some plots or scenes to round up this side of the story, but I don't think so. Since with limited episodes, the story showed a pretty well written development between different parties involved in the romantic side of the story. Which is with both female characters having a great ending under reasonable plots.
Lastly is the expression of foods. Breakfast, which is one of the souls of this anime, is drew perfectly. With the food from each episode being extremely attractive and make you want to have a bite. With myself being a makoto shinkai fan, this anime really showed up in terms of drawing food, although not to the level of makoto shinkai's movie.
This anime is a great work with great art style, uniqueness, humour, plots linkage, meaning, and characters development. Some people may judge that this anime is not ended perfectly or some characters' stories are not wrapped up perfectly in the end. But for myself, with just 12 episodes, this anime did a very very good job, and showed a stunning performance. Definitely one of the best anime among animes in April.

A series that shamelessly surfs on one of my cult series from the 90's: Maison Ikkoku.
The references are numerous.
Despite its refreshing appearance, don't be fooled.
The graphics lack precision, the animation is messy and the script fits on a handkerchief.
It's rubbish, very rubbish indeed.
The characters are basic and there's no subtlety in the approach to feelings. Worst of all, it's not even funny... It's really just entertainment for kids, with no ambition whatsoever. You can sense a self-censorship that refuses to deal with certain subjects in a more mature way.
This is the antithesis of Rumiko Takahashi's writing and Akémi Takada's talent. It confirms Japan's current tendency to renew the quality of its artists and offer only consumable, disposable products. What a shame!
