I found the movie delightful. I wasn't expecting a historically accurate movie and nothing I read about the movie made me think it would be. One review degradated the acting and I thought the acting was good. It's not a big budget film with a list actors and I wasn't expecting that.
I raised my review from a 6 to a 7 Because I'm frustrated with the low reviews about it not being historically accurate. It's not intended to be historically accurate and I am putting in information that AI provided Historical FICTION: The movie, while set during the American Revolution, is not a literal retelling of events.
Based on True Events: The film incorporates elements and alludes to historical events and figures, like the attempt on George Washington's life and plots to sabotage bridges, but these details are consolidated and fictionalized.
NOT A DOCUMENTARY: The filmmakers acknowledge that "Beyond the Mask" is not a documentary, but rather a fictionalized historical drama.
Focus on Faith and Story: The film prioritizes faith and narrative over strict historical accuracy, using CGI to enhance the viewer's experience.
Inspired by Homeschooling: The movie was inspired by the homeschool education of the co-writers, Aaron and Chad Burns, who read and analyzed literature, biography, historical fiction, and culture.

I do not know how this has a 7.1 ⭐ rating. I would give it 4.5⭐
It's fairly cheesy writing in pats and acting goes from barely ok to ok.
Bfoster-33680 has a pretty spot on review and I agree with most of it: "Liliana Tandon as Skyler needs to find a real smile. She always looks grumpy or has that I'm better than you looks." I think when they were dancing, she does look what she has a genuine smile. She does frequently have, what I interpret as a condescending look; ironically even in her picture on IMDb. I thought maybe it's because that's how the script's written but poking around on IMDb SHE IS THE WRITER so maybe it's a bit of a natural look. I tend to be a serious person and can often have a bit of a scowl on my face.
Maybe I'm overthinking it.
In some parts of the movie she seems ok and it could be that she's just inexperienced as an actor and over acting. I did feel that given she's the lead she seemed to be the least capable.
One of the scenes that I found frustrating was, about halfway in, when they went to look at the treasure box Eric Duncan found, the museum the curator pulled it out of a desk drawer. The box was authenticated to around a thousand years old with the gold coin and it's kept in a desk drawer. I don't think so!
I don't expect a whole lot out of most movies like this. You can't shove Everything into 90 min... movie but this was a glaring issue for me.

WHY I SAY DEPENDING ON HOW YOU WATCH IT. I couldn't finish watching it with the messed up soundtrack that on Up Faith and Family. I liked the movie enough to search for another way to watch it and see if the soundtrack was messed up on I'll copies. I found it on *Hoopla. The movie there the soundtrack is the way it should be. Happy I was able to finish it.
Most of my focus in my original review was trying to enjoy the movie and ignore the sound problems. That problem fixed, I watched a good deal of the movie again. So here's a REVIEW OF MOVIE.
This is not an over-the-top Christmas movie; it's more of a family-based movie with a winter/Christmas backdrop. There is good down home Christmas bluegrass music hence the title. The major theme is about saving a horse sanctuary and helping her grandfather, who has emotionally shut down, after the loss of his wife.
Most of the script and acting is pretty decent with only a few scenes I thought could be better. Overall it was very believable. I was impressed with Shaun Johnston (Ben Johnson/Grandpa/Big hickory). Since I'm not familiar with anything else he's in maybe his acting is just who he is but he was really good at the part he played and I enjoyed his music. If you watch Heartland (I don't) you might be familiar with him.
I am a Christian and like faith-based movies. Good ones are not always easy to find. I consider this a good one; especially If you're looking for a family oriented movie. I would also not consider it over the top if you're not a Christian but enjoy a good family movie.

1st review watching via Up Faith & Family subscription: I like the movie; it seems to have great potential. I'm just not sure I'm going to be able to watch the whole movie. The problem is a messed up soundtrack. There's this frequent clicky type noise in the background that's very distracting. Now at 40ish minutes in it sounds like some of the soundtrack is warbly and also has the popping sound. I'm 55 minutes in & unable to finish the movie it's so annoying.
