I knew very little about this film before tuning in. As it started, I felt I knew where it was going, so I kind of lowered my expectations. Then it took some interesting turns, so I have to say it ended up exceeding my expectations.
I thought the story was well written and the directing was fantastic, creating a real sense of dread at times. The acting was top notch. It was a joy to see Hugh Grant as this type of character, and both Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East were outstanding. Their characters could easily have been one dimensional, but both actresses excelled at breathing life into their roles, and in very different ways.
When it came to the ending, I think the story had a couple of missteps that kept me from giving the film a higher score, but I still say it's enjoyable enough to spend a couple of hours with anyway.

What was that? I feel like Benson and Moorhead had some really intriguing idea in their heads that just didn't translate into anything that's worth a damn.
Like I said in the headline, I really DO like what these guys do. Typically, even when it's not a great film, there's still something interesting going on. But with this one, it seemed in the end that there was no message or anything on which to grasp and ponder after the film ended.
At one point, between scenes, I decided to grab a snack. I paused the film and was shocked that I was only about halfway through. It was dragging even more than I thought it could be. And by the time I neared the end, I lost hope that there would be anything to glean from this "story" and just wanted it to be done, even though I knew that the ending would just frustrate me. And sure enough, it did.
I began this review by asking: What was that? The answer: A two hour time suck.

I thought that watching a film described as "camp" and "queer" would be fun. It wasn't. The 10/10 reviews have to be from the people involved in this waste of time, or else their friends and family.
I wanted to watch something bad. I was streaming on TUBI, after all, home of trash films. I actually started with the RiffTrax version of Lycon Colony but had to turn it off because even they couldn't make it funny. So I switched to this, and at first it was so bad that I thought RiffTrax might improve it, but then after about 10 minutes, I knew this film, too, was unsalvageable. The humor wasn't there, unless you're high AND you're friends with people who were in the movie. About halfway through, I just started fast-forwarding it and stopping at each 10 minute mark to see if it gets better. IT DOESN'T.
