I wanted to like this movie, but it was really a total mess. Alan Ladd had sadly lost his looks. He looked very tired, puffy, bloated, stiff and wooden. Seemed like he was just going through the motions. Frankie Avalon had his collar up and his hair in an Elvis cut without the sideburns. He looked like he belonged in a 1950s teenager rebelling flick and not a western. His acting was pleasant, but mediocre at best..Alana Ladd, Alan's daughter, at seventeen was cute enough to be Avalon's love interest, but the poor girl was not much of an actress and by twenty two her acting career was over. Only thing of any interest was the final show down between Ladd and Gilbert Roland using rifles.
The original Heartbreak Kid was an outstanding romantic comedy. This remake is disgusting, not funny. Sex scenes with a donkey! What the heck is that all.about? That's supposed to be funny? Demented, perverted, toilet bowl trash. The humor here belongs in the toilet. Can a normal person find this funny? The cast tried hard with what they had, and I have no doubt that this could of been an entertaining comedy, why rely on gutter trashy humor to plug a film. Whole thing is totally perplexing. Disgusting and gross is not funny! Degrading a woman with perversion is not funny. Sick film. See the original and flush this remake down the toilet.
Cute episode with Pupa from Italy thinking that Rusty has purposed marriage. Problem is, Pupa is only twelve and Rusty is sixteen. Danny Thomas discovered Pupa and had her brought over from Italy. Pupa was very talented, she could sing, dance and act. She was a ball of energy and was given the big build up; appearing with Dean Martin, Red Skeleton and Dick Clark. She appeared on television and even in the movies. She learned English and sang on American Bandstand and the Ed Sullivan Show. However, in 1971 at only the age of twenty, she decided to get married, have children and retire from the world of entertainment. Like a falling star, Pupa shined bright and then faded away....
