A marvelous gem of a film that I found while trawling through the annals of Netflix. Stunning direction from Patrick Ryan (couldn't find anything else of his anywhere though which was disappointing). The female characters are so well developed which something I loved because you don't find it much - especially in Westerns/suspense films. I would have happily given this film a 10/10 review if it wasn't for the violence. A bit too grisly for my liking. Otherwise an truly formidable film.
The Lodgers is a breathtaking film, every ounce the Gothic masterwork that reviews claim it to be. David Turpin's writing is haunting and gorgeous - I couldn't believe that this was his first screenplay. The decrepit world of twins Rachel and Edward is brought to life with unsettling brilliance by director Brian O'Malley, making each exacerbation of events more evocative than the last. Charlotte Vega is a mesmerising Rachel, as she grasps the audiences empathy from the very first scene. Bill Milner's turn as Edward is unforgettably unsettling, a role he takes on with every bit of his marvellous acting ability. All the players in this exquisite film deserve all the commendation that they're receiving. Bravo on a truly wonderful film!
We have two big fans of the Spooky Stakeout television series in our house so when I saw there was a film spin off, I knew we had to watch it! Like the series, the Spooky Stakeout film is a whole lot of spooky, hilarious fun. With plenty of age appropriate scares, our little ones were keep captivated - and laughing their heads off - for the entire duration of the film - there was even a few laughs from us grumpy adults too! Overall a great, wholesome film, perfect for keeping the whole family entertained on movie night.
