“Call Me Kat” has been canceled after three seasons at Fox, Variety has learned.
“We are very proud of ‘Call Me Kat.’ But, unfortunately, the audience response to it was not as strong as we had hoped,” a Fox spokesperson said in a statement. “We are thankful for our partnership with Warner Bros. Television, That’s Wonderful Productions, Sad Clown Productions, BBC Studios, Mayim Bialik, Jim Parsons and the entire cast and crew for their work and dedication to ‘Call Me Kat.'”
The multi-cam comedy was a high-profile get for Fox back in 2019, with the network giving the show a series commitment in a highly-competitive situation before formally ordering it to series in May 2020. Both series star Mayim Bialik and executive producer Jim Parsons were coming fresh off of the 12th and final season of the hit CBS multi-cam “The Big Bang Theory,” with “Call Me Kat” representing their first broadcast project after that show.

Fox is making its renewal and pick up decisions.
The network has canceled comedy series Call Me Kat after three seasons. The show has seen dwindling ratings, particularly in its third season.
On the comedy side, Fox still has Animal Control, which is expected to receive a second season. However, the future of Welcome To Flatch, which is in its second season, is unclear.
Call Me Kat has been paired with Animal Control and the two shows are not considered particularly compatible. Welcome To Flatch comes at an attractive price point, but the cancelation of Call Me Kat is not expected to influence Fox’s decision whether to bring it back for a third season. Finding more comedies is a priority for new head of comedy Cheryl Dolins.

Call Me Kat is a sleeper hit for Fox, and their 3rd season may end up being their best.
Leslie Jordan and Cheyenne Jackson, along with the show's women, give us the inside scoop on Season Three.
The show follows Kat (Mayim Bialik) as she runs her cat cafe.
Both men talk about their characters' new love interests and character arcs.
Check out the interview below.
[You were originally cast as a different character, did you use anything from that character when approaching Phill?]
Leslie: It was so short-lived. It was originally going to be a piano bar, and I was going to be the piano player, so it was sort of a mix-up of Cheyenne's [Jackson's] character.
That only lasted a day because our creator Darlene Hunt called me and said, "We're trying to cast Phyllis," There were going to be three girls that commiserate on everything. It would've been the Kyla Pratt character, the Mayim Bialik character, and this new Phyllis.
I knew exactly where she was going.

Spoiler Alert: The following story contains details from the series finale of Apple TV+’s Dickinson.
Apple TV+’s comedy series Dickinson wrapped up its third and final season Thursday night, with Emily Dickinson (Hailee Steinfeld) and her loved ones looking to the future.
As the episode titled “This Was a Poet -” opens, Emily is visited in her family’s garden by Death (Wiz Khalifa), who is donning a new suit and suggests that she herself is in need of “a new look” — a “uniform” befitting her work as a poet. From his perspective, she’s at a point where she should look to “go farther and deeper” in her writing than ever before, and she can do so only by separating herself from other peoples’ expectations, the strictures of which are embodied in the corset she’s long been forced to wear.

When Alena Smith sat down to tell the untold tale of famed poet Emily Dickinson, she imagined a three-year television series. She sold the show straight to series to Apple TV Plus in May 2018, more than a year before that streamer would even launch. To say that Smith’s goal of three seasons at an unproven entity had to come with risk and hope may be an understatement. But she was able to carry her original plan to fruition, and now “Dickinson” is the first Apple TV Plus series to conclude its run having carried out its creator’s vision.
“In Season 3 we’ve lived through a lot with these characters, we’ve all grown and changed and their relationships have certainly deepened over time, and to just honor all of that history was really rewarding,” Smith tells Variety.
“To me, this whole series is really one work of art.

“To be a part of a show where it’s this kind of alternate, wonderful world was just thrilling,” declares Anthony Rich about the new Fox sitcom “Call Me Kat.” Rich directed three episodes of the freshman comedy, which stars Mayim Bialik as a thirtysomething single proprietor of a local “cat cafe,” which was just renewed for a second season. The series marks a reunion of sorts for Rich and Bialik — Rich worked with the actress for 12 years on “The Big Bang Theory.” Watch our exclusive video interview with Rich above.
Rich came to the show through his connection to Bialik and her fellow “Big Bang” star Jim Parsons (both are executive producers of “Call Me Kat”). Rich prepared for his interview with creator Darlene Hunt by binge-watching “Miranda,” the acclaimed British sitcom upon which “Call Me Kat” is based. “I fell in love with it,” he exclaims. “I was...

“What I wanted in Hollywood was certainly not what I’m getting now… all this extra!” exclaims Leslie Jordan about his current career trajectory. The actor and comedian has a new bestselling memoir, a new gospel music album and will return to the Fox sitcom “Call Me Kat,” which was just renewed for a second season. The comedy features Jordan as Phil, a loveable gay baker and best friend of the title character (Mayim Bialik). In an exclusive video interview with Gold Derby (watch the video above), the Emmy-winning actor discusses becoming a social media star and why he hopes the series “will run forever.”
Although Jordan was already cast on “Call Me Kat” in a smaller role, it was series creator Darlene Hunt who asked the actor to take a look at the part of Phyllis thinking that the role could work as a man. Despite being asked to...

There are enough moments in “Call Me Kat” that veer close to working that they become even more frustrating when they don’t. Enough good ingredients to make a broadcast hit are right there, most notably Mayim Bialik starring as Kat, her first regular TV role since “The Big Bang Theory” made her a network TV mainstay. A solid supporting cast — including Swoosie Kurtz, Kyla Pratt and Leslie Jordan — accompanies her as she vamps for the camera, which becomes another character all its own as Kat constantly talks straight at it. And in one of the show’s best creative decisions, Darlene Hunt’s “Call Me Kat” doesn’t let Kat, a single 39 year-old Louisville woman who ditched academia to open her own cat café, become the total spinster cliché she could have.
When her fretful mother (Kurtz) asks her if she’s not afraid of becoming “a sad cat lady,...

Jim Parsons claim to fame may be The Big Bang Theory’s brilliantly talented brainiac Sheldon Cooper, but the actor revealed that he could’ve been among the beloved characters from The Office.
On Wednesday the Boys In The Band actor revealed during a panel for Fox’s Call Me Kat that he had auditioned to be in the pilot of NBC’s The Office. Though he didn’t state for which character he auditioned, Parsons recalled his thoughts on NBC re-creating the original UK series of the same name, which first premiered in 2001.
“I was like ‘how stupid, it’s about an office. If America wanted their own office show, they would have already made it by now,” Parsons said.
Going against Parsons’ initial feelings, The Office picked up multiple Emmy and Golden Globe Awards, served as a launching pad for several actors’ careers and continues to top Netflix streaming charts.

Press materials for new indie comedy “Lazy Susan” stress “The character of Susan is a cisgender woman,” apparently for fear that viewers might otherwise assume star Sean Hayes is playing a transgender person. The fact that he’s not underlines this movie’s very fragile raison d’être: It’s supposed to be funny simply that a man in a dress and wig is portraying a “real” woman. Can that be funny? Well, sure. But is that alone, minus much else very special in the realms of performance or story or concept, funny enough to float a 90-minute movie all by itself?
Apparently not. “Lazy Susan” aims hazily between the sad-sack valentine likes of “Muriel’s Wedding” and something more satirically misanthropic, missing a target it never quite commits to in the first place. Starring “Will & Grace’s” Hayes as the title character, a suburban Wisconsin wallflower who makes herself...
