When "Star Trek: The Next Generation" first began in 1987, LeVar Burton was probably the biggest star in the cast. He had already been nominated for three Emmys, once in 1977 for playing Kunta Kinte in the celebrated miniseries "Roots," and two more in 1985 and 1986 for hosting the beloved book-based kid program "Reading Rainbow." The latter show would end up netting him 12 Emmy wins between 1990 and 2007, and cement his reputation as one of his generation's preeminent TV celebrities. The fact that he would be selected to play chief engineer Geordi La Forge on "Star Trek" only more deeply entrenched Burton in the public's awareness.
Geordi La Forge was, more than anything, a nerd. He was deeply interested in machines and engines, and Burton was given the lion's share of NextGen's nonsensical polysyllabic technobabble. He was also notoriously undersexed. Geordi was equipped with a visor that tapped directly into his brain, feeding him...

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani condemned U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman during a Manhattan courtroom hearing, claiming that he was “against” him.
Giuliani owes $148 million to Shaye Moss and Ruby Freeman, two former Georgia election workers after he was found guilty of accusing them of 2020 election fraud.
On Oct. 22, U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman ruled that Giuliani must hand over property expected to fetch several million dollars for Freeman and Moss.
This included his Manhattan apartment, estimated at more than $5 million, which he needed to give to the election workers within the seven days following the ruling.
The former New York City mayor was ordered to give the former Georgia election workers his 1980 Mercedes-Benz Sl 500, formerly owned by Lauren Bacall, a shirt and picture signed, respectively, by Yankees legends Joe Dimaggio and Reggie Jackson, a signed Yankee Stadium picture, a diamond ring, costume jewelry and 26 watches,...

No 1970s car exudes more Hollywood allure than the Ferrari 365 Gtb/4, known colloquially as the “Daytona.” Not only was it coveted by movie stars and rock gods, but it had several memorable screen appearances itself. One played a significant role in Robert Altman’s Elliott Gould-starring ode to Film Noir, The Long Goodbye. Perhaps most famously, a convertible version starred in 1976’s A Star Is Born, with Kris Kristofferson at the wheel and Barbra Streisand in the passenger seat.
Now, just as that movie inspired an acclaimed remake a few years back, the 365 Gtb/4 is having a revival. Ferrari design head Flavio Manzoni likes to suggest that all cars from the Italian exotic automaker are of-the-moment, reflecting their time. But he has not been shy in discussing the historical inspiration for the brand’s new, $459,000 two-seater, the 12Cilindri. Manzoni has said quite clearly that the front end and overall shape echo the Daytona.

One of the biggest news stories of the year, rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs currently faces charges of racketeering and sex trafficking, in addition to several sexual assault lawsuits previously held against him. As the high-profile case becomes the talk of the town, Netflix is looking to capitalize on the situation by producing a documentary series that will revolve around Diddy's case, while also giving a spotlight to those affected by his alleged horrific and violent actions.
Netflix confirmed the news (via Deadline) along with announcing that Curtis 50 Cent Jackson and Alexandra Stapleton (who will also be directing) are set to produce the upcoming documentary series on Diddy. The untitled project is currently in production after being greenlit by Netflix earlier this year, around the time when the unsettling allegations against Diddy began making the news. These days it’s commonplace for True Crime stories to fill the corners of any entertainment outlet. Whether it’s film, TV, or podcasts. Hell, we probably wouldn’t bat an eye were we standing in a McDonald’s at 9 Am on Easter Sunday and heard the grizzly story of a banker sticking his ex-wife and her chihuahua into a wood chipper coming at us from the TV in the corner. We’re pretty desensitized when it comes to using the tragedies of other human beings as entertainment. I’m not judging you, Peter. I’m just as culpable. The one and only Blade, Wesley Snipes, who recently made waves with his return in the MCU’s latest offering, Deadpool & Wolverine, almost had a completely different destiny. Fans are having a hard time imagining a universe where Snipes wasn’t slicing through vampires, but was instead donning the visor of Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

It’s quite an intriguing what-if scenario, given that Snipes nearly landed the role that LeVar Burton made iconic. Had Snipes taken on that role, it could have dramatically altered the trajectory of his career, leading to a whole different chapter in his very iconic journey through Hollywood.

Kevin Peter Hall, who played the Predator, was considered for Star Trek: Tng roles. Hall appeared as Leyor in Star Trek: Tng's "The Price," after not getting the Data or Geordi parts. Hall's career included various movie monsters and guest appearances, before his passing in 1991.
The actor who portrayed the Predator in the first two Predator films was considered for the roles of both Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton) and Lt. Commander Data (Brent Spiner) on Star Trek: The Next Generation. After its initial run in the 1960s, Star Trek: The Original Series developed a passionate fanbase, and many of these fans were wary of a new Star Trek series with different characters. This put a lot of pressure on Gene Roddenberry and the people at Paramount to perfectly cast the crew of the USS Enterprise-d for Tng.

Baseball Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson appeared at Thursday’s Fox Sports televised MLB game between San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals, which took place at the historic Rickwood Field to honor the late, great Willie Mays, who died this week at the age of 93. Being at the Birmingham, Alabama, ballpark, which was the home of the Birmingham Black Barons where Mays began his career, brought back some tough memories for him. Jackson shared those thoughts in a poignant and must-watch moment of television. When asked by Alex Rodriguez about his emotional experience of returning to the field and being a trailblazer for other Black athletes, Jackson said frankly, “Coming back here is not easy. The racism that I played here when I played here, the difficulty of going through different places where we traveled… Fortunately, I had a manager, and I had players on the team that helped me get through it,...

For the first time in their history, the Texas Rangers are the World Series champions. They knocked off the upstart Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday night to break the hex that has seen them as MLB’s oldest franchise without a ring.
The Rangers turned Game 5 at Arizona’s Chase Field into an elimination game by crushing the D-backs in Game 4.
They are the only team to go 10-0 on the road in a postseason.
Veteran manager Bruce Bochy won his fourth World Series championship with the Rangers’ victory. Shortstop Corey Seager, an ex-Dodger who joined Texas as a free agent, is expected to be named the World Series Mvp.

The first film, Mel Blount: Whatever It Takes, on longtime Pittsburgh Steeler Blount, will offer a deep dive into his life journey, from his arduous beginning in a segregated Vidalia, Georgia to getting drafted in the 3rd round by the struggling Steelers, to the next 14 years, where he won four championships and cemented himself as the best at his position as cornerback. Star Trek: The Next Generation nearly cast Tim Russ, who would go on to play Lieutenant Commander Tuvok on Star Trek: Voyager, as Geordi La Forge, a role that eventually went to LeVar Burton. Russ was just beginning his acting career when he auditioned for the part of Geordi in 1987. Though he missed out on the role of Geordi, Russ would spend the next few years building up a solid resume of TV guest appearances and minor movie roles in projects like The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air and Spaceballs.
While the role of Geordi La Forge ultimately went to the more established LeVar Burton, Russ made an impression on the Tng producers. They kept him in mind when casting the spinoff series Star Trek: Voyager, and he ultimately won the role of Tuvok, the stoic Vulcan officer who served as one of Captain Kathryn Janeway's (Kate Mulgrew) closest friends and advisors.
