Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”
The second to last Amityville film released in 2024 was Amityville Backpack, an extremely low budget effort written, edited, and directed by Evan Jacobs. The film is exactly what you’d expect from the title (or the ~57th entry in a long-running franchise): it’s about a murderous, sentinel backpack that hails from Amityville.
The film follows lowly office worker Luther Boots (Mike Hartsfield), a perennially late and often forgettable man who doesn’t have a lot going on in life. He has a cat named Poopsie, a single bed in a dilapidated apartment and not much else.
His unreliability frequently lands him in hot water with his irate boss Mr. Bags. Meanwhile, Luther’s crush, Delilah Fontaine (Lindy Hartsfield)…tolerates him,...

Following the successful DVD release from Cinema Epoch of Evan Jacobs' Dv trilogy, the low-fi filmmaker is back with another microbudget horror fest called The Forming and, to hear Jacobs' tell it, it is the start of a new trilogy. While not a continuation of the Dv Trilogy, Jacobs says the films are somewhat connected. In addition to this he feels that The Forming is both challenging and accessible. He hopes to continue this theme throughout this new trilogy.
The Forming is a film that looks at how fear forms within us. We focus on a man who is attacked by a dog as he runs in the park. After that, he finds himself dealing with some very strange occurrences in his home. Everything that follows seems to relate back to the fear he experienced during the dog attack. As he is forced to confront these odd goings on...

Shia Labeouf is at it again. Not content with simply being an actor, he has decided to become the world's weirdest performance artist. And you can watch him as he watches all of his movies right now live in New York. It's called the #AllMyMovies project. And you can see it Here. Though, be warned! The site has crashed, and may continue to crash as news spreads of this interesting bit of strangeness.
Shia Labeouf has had an interesting past couple of years. And some fans aren't sure what to make of him. He's gone from childhood star, to blockbuster marquee name, to deranged psychopath who likes to engage in beefy bar brawls and place himself in museums as a living work of art. It seems fame has had a unique affect on him. And we're never sure what he's going to do next. And each time he does pull off some bit of craziness,...

Cinema Epoch and Anhedenia Films have teamed up for the On Demand re-release of Evan Jacobs' artsy classic, Watching a Movie.
Made in 1997, this film chronicles one man's attempt to make a movie about himself watching a movie.
Shot on a lark in four 4 hour days over the summer, this movie, despite it's seemingly banal plot, found worldwide distribution when it was first released on VHS. Making its way into video stores (when those still existed), it eventually saw release on DVD and then Video On Demand via Amazon.
Cinema Epoch recently "cleaned up" this film and is releasing it to the public. In keeping with Watching a Movie's minimalistic tone, they have priced it at the lowest rental price for a feature film in the history of streaming. You can check out the trailer here:
Cinema Epoch President Gregory Hatanaka says,

From Evan Jacobs, the director of Dv and Orange County Hardcore Scenester, comes the animated thriller Insect, which follows two teenage boys dealing with the recent death of their mother. We have the exclusive trailer debut, along with a statement about this impending release from the director himself.
About Insect, director Evan Jacobs had this to say about its inception and origin.
"This movie is extremely inspired by Phantasm. I mean, look at the font in the trailer! I wanted to create a film that looks at loss and all that goes with it. This film imagines what might happen if there was a creature that preyed on these fears, was made stronger by the fears, and ultimately had to be confronted."

"If they could film Hell, this would be it!" Quickly following Dv's successful run on the film festival circuit, director Evan Jacobs (Orange County Hardcore Scenester, Knockout and the upcoming Distant Shore) returns with Dv 2, the second chapter of his haunting franchise, which follows a killer and his trunk of despair as he quickly sinks into the depths of human frailty and dementia. We have your exclusive first look at this unique horror experience, followed by some words from the man himself about the intent behind this 'sequel' and when we can expect to see both movies released later this year.
Director Evan Jacobs explains the direction he wanted to take with this follow-up, which was shot less than a year after the original movie.
"I love it when a movie comes out and then the sequel appears, and it is totally different than the original. I guess that's...

Evan Jacobs ' low-fi odyssey Dv has been picked up for worldwide distribution by Burbank, CA based distributor Cinema Epoch. In order to increase the viewing experience, Cinema Epoch plans to offer this title on DVD in what they call "Terror-Depth 3D."
States Cinema Epoch owner, Gregory Hatanaka.
"In the tradition of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, Evan Jacobs has created an intense journey into the mind of a madman. The experience, especially in 3D, is horrifying and claustrophobic! We are delighted to finally be working with Evan Jacobs on Dv after having first seen his work in Watching a Movie fifteen years ago. Dv is one of the most terrifying experiences you will ever have, especially in 3D - the realism is so genuine that one forgets it is a movie and not real life."
As a bonus, the disc will include Dv in both 2D and 3D.

First there was V/H/S, and then came V/H/S/2 (formerly known as S-vhs), now comes Dv the next evolution in technology for documentary-loving serial killers everywhere. From the mind of Evan Jacobs, creator of Knockout, the music documentary Orange County Hardcore Scenester, and the soon to be released Distant Shore starring Randy Couture and Scott Adkins, Dv follows the mind of a killer whose secret life is slowly starting to unravel as he captures it all on his personal Dv camera. We have the first exclusive clip from the film, which finds James (Evan Jacobs), in a moment of crisis, venturing to a graveyard where he thinks some of his victims are buried.
Dv Exclusive: "Graveyard"
V/H/S/2 recently changed its title from S-vhs. Some speculate that its because now, with Dv garnering good word of mouth on the festival circuit, they won't be able to...

Born To Fight
Stars: ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, Daniel Magder, Jaren Brandt Bartlett, Janet Kidder, Emma Grabinsky | Written by Evan Jacobs, Jack Nasser | Directed by Anne Wheeler
Former WWE superstar ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin is back with Born To Fight, aka Knockout, another direct to DVD movie for producer Jack Nasser, who both previously worked together on Damage, The Stranger and the awesome Hunt to Kill. Besides producing Nasser also co-writes, with Evan Jacobs (Doughboys), this Karate Kid-esque underdog story of a nerd who learns to box, get the girl and beat the high school bully.
So far so Karate KId right? Well yes and no. Born To Fight does follow the now typical beatdown, train, fight, win formula that was made famous by Mr. Miyagi and co. in the 80s, but it has a lot, and I mean a Lot, in common with the underrated 90′s action movie Showdown,...
