"Saturday Night Live" is, as the name implies, mostly a live show, which means it's important that things go according to plan in the live sketches. That means no major improvising, no missing your cue, and no accidentally flashing the camera. So it makes sense that the show has a rule that the actors have to be wearing underwear at all times, unless of course they're making a pre-taped sketch about a very revealing style of men's jeans.
Even when a character in their sketch is wearing underwear, cast members often wear their real underwear underneath it. Such was the case in a recent sketch (watch below) with Heidi Gardner, where her character was wearing an old-timey, exaggerated bra, but you can see another bra underneath it that goes unacknowledged by the other characters. The reasoning for this precaution becomes clear at the end of the sketch, where the globe...

A Sloth Story sprinkles sazón picante on the lovable critters in a teachable narrative about a Latino family sticking together when the going gets tough. These anthropomorphic CGI sloths are far from sluggish tree-dwellers. They dance salsa and merengue while cooking up delectable goodness for gorditas-loving gringos. The surprisingly deep plot tackles serious themes with frank honesty, but does tread melodramatic in a labored second act. The pacing thankfully recovers for a kooky and colorful finale that's sure to lift the spirits of all ages.

Sloths are having their moment right now. After “Zootopia” offered us one of the funniest moments to feature sloths on celluloid – a moment that propelled them into pop-culture-meme-land – the tired, boring, and super-slow creatures have found their representation in colorful tales ever since. Tania Vincent and Ricard Cussó’s “A Sloth Story” which gleefully and secretly also works as a tale of Latinx representation, features the loveable animals as the lead in a zany, albeit conventional take on bridging the gaps between the traditional and the modern.

Adam Sandler performed a song that paid tribute to Saturday Night Live’s 50 years on the air during Sunday night’s anniversary special, but not before he was introduced by retired Hollywood veteran Jack Nicholson.
Nicholson introduced the Grown Ups actor before he began his referential track, where he highlighted infamous SNL moments, pondered when Lorne Michaels will retire and quipped about “finding out your favorite musician is antisemitic.”
Sandler kicked off his performance saying, “everyone in this room has something in common,” pointing out that “all of our lives were changed by the show” before poking fun at some lighthearted moments. He questioned who would “take over the show when Lorne retires” in his lyrics before he appeared to joke that Speedy Rosenthal, a longtime member of SNL’s music department, would be the one to take over Michaels’ spot.
The comedian and actor also seemingly threw a jab at Kanye West,...

Tom Hanks has come under fire for his portrayal of a Trump supporter during Saturday Night Live’s 50th-anniversary special.
During the episode, Hanks reprised his role as Doug, a Maga hat-wearing contestant on Black Jeopardy! alongside Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan and Eddie Murphy.
Originally introduced in 2016, the character satirized both the contrasts and similarities between Trump supporters and Black culture. However, this latest performance did not sit well with some conservative viewers.
Maga supporters took to social media to criticize the skit, arguing that it reinforced outdated stereotypes. “Trump won the popular vote. This tired trope that Maga is racist is disgusting. SNL is an unfunny show for snobbish liberal elites,” wrote former Rfk Jr. aide Link Lauren on X. Another user called the portrayal “tired and pathetic,” accusing SNL of focusing on political agendas instead of humor.

Saturday Night Live recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary, with (almost) every notable name in the show's history and Hollywood as a whole coming together for the event. The long-running show brought back many of its iconic sketches for the occasion, with Black Jeopardy being one of them. Eddie Murphy, Tracy Morgan, and Leslie Jones returned to the stage for the fake quiz show, but it was Oscar-winner Tom Hanks' appearance that became the most talked about – and perhaps not in the way he would have liked.
Hanks appeared as a contestant on the fictional Black version of Jeopardy, a sketch the series has made famous over the years. In the skit, he plays a satirical version of a Trump voter – a role he played in a previous episode. But a specific incident during the segment is drawing backlash on right-wing social media. The host, played by longtime star Kenan Thompson,...

Saturday Night Live celebrated its 50th anniversary over the weekend, and while it’s more or less impossible to mount a three-and-a-half-hour variety show that pleases everyone, a single joke in this marathon running time has deeply upset thin-skinned Trump voters.
Back in 2016, before Donald Trump was first elected president, SNL aired an installment of their long-running “Black Jeopardy!” series, in which Kenan Thompson presents a skewed version of the quiz show with more colloquial questions and irreverent answers — and non-Black contestants find themselves at a certain disadvantage. But this...

Saturday Night Live‘s big 50th-anniversary celebration was a star-studded affair that paid tribute to the highs and lows of the show’s half-century on air, but one part of the special has certain audiences talking more than others: “Black Jeopardy!” Yes, the fan-favorite sketch returned for another segment on Sunday, with Kenan Thompson hosting and Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, and Eddie Murphy starring as contestants. Tom Hanks also dropped in to reprise his role as Maga hat-wearer Doug — a role which he originated back in 2016 — and some Donald Trump supporters took that personally, it seems. In the sketch, Hanks appeared as Doug in the final moments, answering a question about “The Church Lady” character and contending that “we wouldn’t be in this mess” if more people went to church, earning a handshake offer from the host, which he appeared scared to accept at first. After that moment of awkwardness passed,...

Eddie Murphy's impression of Tracy Morgan on Saturday Night Live stole the show in a recent sketch celebrating the show's 50th anniversary. Murphy did his Morgan impression during the show's 'Black Jeopardy' sketch.
Murphy was joined for the SNL skit by fellow Black comedians, with Kenan Thompson playing host Darnell Hayes (aka Alex Treblack), and the other contestants being Leslie Jones and Tracy Morgan himself. During 'Black Jeopardy', Murphy did a hilarious impression of Morgan -- while Morgan stood right beside him and played a man named Darius. From his very introduction, Murphy was fully in-character as Tracy, calling out "Big Dog gonna make some big money!" in an over-the-top impression that had the rest of the cast struggling to keep a straight face.

“Saturday Night Live” celebrated its 50th anniversary with a three-and-a-half-hour Sunday night primetime special, because there were too many stars to fit into 90 minutes.

Steve Martin kicked off the SNL 50th anniversary special Sunday night with a monologue in which he made jokes about topics ranging from his age to President Trump’s decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico.
Following an opening performance by Paul Simon and Sabrina Carpenter of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Homeward Bound,” Martin took the stage to introduce himself as SNL‘s “newest diversity hire” and to deliver the monologue, which he joked is “traditionally the weakest part of the show.”
“When I heard that SNL wanted to do an anniversary special, I literally wanted to leap into the air, and the only reason I didn’t is because at the time I was wearing a short skirt with no underwear,” he joked. “Now I can’t believe I even made it here in time. Eddie Murphy as Tracy Morgan, Adam Sandler’s musical memories, and all the best moments from ‘SNL50’
It’s hard to believe that Saturday Night Live is almost old enough to qualify for AARP benefits. Yet the groundbreaking sketch comedy series is indeed celebrating five decades on the air, commemorated the SNL50 special live on … Sunday night.
What started as a scrappy replacement for reruns of The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson morphed into a comedic institution, built upon youthful rebellion and an anarchic sense of humor. The brainchild of Lorne Michaels has been a breeding ground for comedic talent far too vast to list off, and some of its best known characters, sketches, and catchphrases have entered the cultural lexicon. To celebrate SNL‘s golden jubilee, here are the best moments from the 50th anniversary event.

Adam Sandler’s performance at Sunday night’s “SNL50: Anniversary Special” was one of the most memorable moments of the night — even before it began. The performance was introduced by Jack Nicholson, who received loud applause inside Studio 8H.
“Everyone in this room has something in common. All of our lives were changed by the show,” Sandler, who spent five years on “Saturday Night Live” from 1991 to 1995, began. His song highlighted many behind-the-scenes jokes, including calling out “Drunk Wally” for holding the cue cards upside down and thanking “Nurse Teresa” for the many doses of Pepto Bismol.
“50 years of writers seeing Spielberg at Lorne’s monitors, not laughing at one of their sketches that he obviously hated,” Sandler sang. “50 years of those same writers getting wasted at the after party and loudly telling everybody that ‘Jaws ‘was overrated.”
Sandler joked about how each cast feels they’re the best,...

“SNL” revived its beloved “Black Jeopardy” sketch for its 50th anniversary, except this time with Eddie Murphy playing Tracy Morgan.
In the sketch, Kenan Thompson returned as the host of “Black Jeopardy,” introducing the sketch by saying “Welcome to ‘Black Jeopardy,’ the only ‘Jeopardy’ where every single viewer fully understood Kendrick’s halftime performance,” referencing Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show at last week’s Super Bowl.
Leslie Jones also returned as Shanice alongside Morgan, who played a man named Darius, and Murphy, who played “Tracy Morgan.”
“Darius, Tracy, y’all seem like you might be related,” Thompson said, though Murphy’s Morgan immediately rejected the idea, saying “Well, James Earl Jones is my biological father. James Earl Jones impregnated my mother on the set of ‘Claudine.’ You know what? We might be related.”
Still, Morgan, said, “I don’t see it.”

Eddie Murphy, who once rescued Saturday Night Live during a rough patch in the 1980s, rescued a sketch in the show’s 50th anniversary special with a note-perfect imitation of Tracy Morgan.
The Black Jeopardy sketch, a reprise from many years ago, featured Kenan Thompson once again playing host Darnell Hayes. Morgan played a fictitious contestant, as did fellow ex-cast member Leslie Jones.
After a flat opening stretch that made it seem like the sketch could go either way, Murphy was introduced as Morgan. Wearing a jumbo-sized gold medallion and a red satin patterned jacket, Murphy-as-Morgan got huge laughs and even nearly broke Thompson. “Big dog gonna make some big money!” he crowed.
Thompson replied, “Don’t you already have a lot of money?” Murphy/Morgan: “You gotta have a lot of money if you’re going to live like I live. I eat four-cheese lasagna! If it only got three cheeses,...

Molly Shannon returned as her iconic character Sally O’Malley during Saturday Night Live‘s 50th anniversary special on Sunday night. And yes, she’s still “50 years old,” even after all these years.
The long-awaited cameo moment happened around the 30-minute mark of the three-hour extravaganza. Five-time host Emma Stone (who made waves on the red carpet with her popcorn ballgown) got interrupted by Sally as she was about to cut to a tribute of the show’s best physical comedy moments.
“Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Sally O’Malley,” she told the crowd of A-listers while wearing her trademark red jumpsuit. “I’m proud to say, I’m 50 years old, just like Saturday Night Live. She’s not one of those gals who’s afraid to tell her real age, and she likes to kick, stretch, and kick. She’s 50. Fifty years old!”

Sabrina Carpenter and Paul Simon kicked off Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary special with a touching duet.
The Grammy winners introduced each other before they opened the NBC broadcast by performing Simon & Garfunkel’s “Homeward Bound.” Simon pointed out that he performed the same track on SNL in 1976 with George Harrison, while Carpenter joked that neither she nor her parents were born at the time.
After they concluded their performance, Carpenter and Simon kicked off the special by reciting SNL‘s signature catchphrase, “Live From New York, it’s Saturday night,” despite the special airing on Sunday. From there, Steve Martin appeared to deliver the monologue.
Carpenter took the stage later Sunday night for a bridesmaid skit inspired by SNL‘s viral Domingo skit with Ariana Grande, which featured music from her track “Espresso.” There, Marcello Hernández reprised his role of Domingo once more, while Pedro Pascal and Bad Bunny...

“Black Jeopardy,” one of Kenan Thompson’s most popular recurring “Saturday Night Live” sketches, came back to 30 Rock during the show’s 50th anniversary special on Sunday. As usual, Thompson played host Darnell Hayes aka Alex Treblack, with contestants being played by former cast members Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan and, most notably, Eddie Murphy.
The biggest laughs were earned by Murphy, who did an impression of Morgan, while Morgan played a man named Darius and Jones played a woman named Shanice.
“Welcome to ‘Black Jeopardy,’ the only ‘Jeopardy’ where every single viewer fully understood Kendrick’s halftime performance,” Thompson said, opening the sketch with a reference to Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl appearance.
As Thompson introduced him, Murphy called out, “Big dog gonna make some big money!” in an exaggerated put-on of Morgan’s voice.
“Now wait a minute, Tracy. Don’t you already have a lot of money?” Thompson asked him.

Will Ferrell and Ana Gasteyer reprised their iconic roles as Marty and Bobbi Mohan-Culp during the “SNL50: The Homecoming Concert” Friday.
The old married music teachers even sung Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss track, “Not Like Us.” Gasteyer’s Bobbi chimed out the backing vocals in an opertatic tune, as Ferrell’s Marty rapped the verse. Both comedians went back and forth singing “A minor” trying to find the key, as SNL alum Leslie Jones filmed from the crowd.

Here are the 25 best SNL sketches of the past 25 years.
1. Debbie Downer: Disney World
May 1, 2004 | Season 29
Guest host Lindsay Lohan had no idea what she was getting herself into when she agreed to sit opposite Rachel Dratch in a simple sketch about a family eating breakfast at Disney World. But whenever Jimmy Fallon and Horatio Sanz appeared together in the same scene, giggles were almost guaranteed to occur. Before long, everyone was cracking up uncontrollably at Dratch...

Julia Sweeney’s “Pat” was a frequent and popular sketch star during the 1990s era of Saturday Night Live, but in recent years the character of indeterminate gender has come under criticism as a mockery of trans and nonbinary people.
Appearing today on ABC’s The View, Sweeney addressed the criticism, saying she “took it to heart” and has “thought about it a lot.”
“Much later, there was some criticism of it,” she said, “but Pat isn’t trans or non binary. Pat is a man or a woman, but you just don’t know which Pat is. That is the joke, but I did understand the criticism, and I took it to heart and thought about it a lot.”
“But even when we were writing all the sketches ,” she continued, “we were really making fun of the other people [in the sketches] not being able to handle the fact that they couldn’t tell.

Saturday Night Live eras will converge in an upcoming movie. Two of the show's most iconic and beloved cast members are set to star opposite each other.
Bill Murray and Kristen Wiig will star in the comedy Epiphany directed by Max Barbakow and written by Mitch Glazer. Per Variety, the plot follows "Favorite Ives (Wiig), an heiress and fashionista who has blown through her entire fortune and is forced to take up a challenge: marry a rich husband in two weeks or lose everything and end up on the street. Her desperate search for a big-money mark slams her into eccentric math savant and billionaire Oz Bell (Bill Murray). Favorite needs Oz’s money and Oz craves Favorite’s spirit and spontaneity."
Barbakow already has a history working with Saturday Night Live alum. He collaborated with Andy Samberg on the science-fiction romantic-comedy Palm Springs.

We’re celebrating 50 years of “Saturday Night Live”! All this week, we’re digging into the late-night comedy institution with new stories, including lists, essays, interviews, and more.
We know what you’re thinking. Why choose to highlight only the later seasons of “Saturday Night Live” as opposed to the full 50 years? It is the 50th Anniversary after all, right? Being perfectly honest, most of the people involved in making this list were not born before 1990, meaning we really couldn’t even appreciate “SNL” until after the turn of the 21st Century. That being said, we’re also all TV obsessives who have certainly seen “Word Association” with Chevy Chase and Richard Pryor, as well as Phil Hartman’s Bill Clinton, and even the sketch that got Damon Wayans fired. Our reasoning for sticking to just the sketches that aired between 2001 and today — outside of the standard generational divides in...

A teenager who works in the sloth’s family restaurant seeks life in the fast-food lane in this bland animated adventure
The idea of a kids’ animation about sloths – those shaggy balls of furry happiness with mellow stoner smiles – feels like a winner. But, disappointingly, the sloths in this kids’ animation don’t look much like sloths, nor do they seem to act anything like their real-life counterparts. The movie is the latest from The Tales from Sanctuary City, an Australian franchise set in a vegan metropolis where animals have learnt to coexist in harmony. Like the earlier movies in the series, it’s perfectly adequate for little kids but with little character of its own and a straight-to-download-style blandness.
Essentially, this is a film about foodies and the delights of slow cooking. Laura (voiced by Teo Vergara) is a rebellious teenage sloth from the sticks who works in the family restaurant,...
