Updated: Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe is eying further expansion beyond Paramount Network and Paramount+. A potential new offshoot would air on sibling broadcast network CBS.
No deals are believed to be in place for the procedural, which started hitting the rumor mill more than a month ago. Just like it did back then, CBS would not comment to Deadline on the prospect of an original Yellowstone series on the network. The new series would star Yellowstone‘s Luke Grimes reprising his role as livestock commissioner and former Navy Seal Kayce Dutton.
The existing Yellowstone series are produced by MTV Entertainment Studios. I hear there is no current involvement by sibling CBS Studios, which produces all in-house CBS drama procedurals though one of the showrunners on its roster, Seal Team‘s Spencer Hudnut, is shepherding the new show.

Paramount+ has officially renewed Landman starring Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton and co-created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace. After being listed as one of the Top 10 Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) original series for the fourth quarter of 2024, the renewal is not surprising.
Paramount+ reports that the fourth quarter Top 10 SVOD list marked the first time a streamer, other than Netflix, has earned three spots. Paramount+ was represented by Tulsa King (#4), Landman (#8), and Lioness (#9).
“Landman was one of the biggest shows of the year because of Taylor Sheridan’s unique ability to tap into the cultural zeitgeist, harnessing the Neo-Western themes of rugged individualism, ambition, and working-class struggles set against contemporary debates around energy, climate change and economic growth,” stated Chris McCarthy, President and CEO, Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks.

“Landman” will be returning for a Season 2. It’s an unsurprising move from Paramount+ considering how big of a hit the Billy Bob Thornton-led drama has been for the streamer.
The premiere episode of the Taylor Sheridan series secured 35 million streaming viewers globally, making it the most streamed premiere episode in the history of Paramount+. Additionally, “Landman” set internal records for debuting the most-watched finale in the history of the streamer and becoming the No. 1 most-watched Paramount+ original, the No. 1 engagement driver and No. 1 show in households.
The success of “Landman” continued a hot streak for Sheridan and Paramount+. Three of Sheridan’s streaming originals — “Landman,” “Tulsa King” and “Lioness” — ranked among Nielsen’s list of the Top 10 SVOD Original Series during the fourth quarter of 2024. Since Nielsen began recording this metric in the third quarter of 2017, this marks only the second time that a non-Netflix streamer has...

Paramount+ is headed back to the West Texas oil fields.
The streamer has renewed its drama series Landman for a second season. The pickup comes two months after the show, co-created by Yellowstone’s Taylor Sheridan and starring Billy Bob Thornton, concluded a breakout first season.
Landman ranked among the top 10 original streaming series during the fourth quarter of last year and continued its strong run into January, racking up almost 9.7 billion minutes of viewing over 11 weeks in Nielsen’s top 10 streaming rankings. (Two other Paramount+/Sheridan shows, Tulsa King and Lioness, also ranked among the top 10 streaming originals in the fourth quarter.)

Landman has been renewed for Season 2 at Paramount+.
The first season of Taylor Sheridan‘s drama about the West Texas oil industry ended on January 12. The renewal news is somewhat expected, given that Landman has performed quite well for the streamer, launching in November as the best Paramount+ debut in two years.
For the final quarter of 2024, Landman ranked as one of the overall Top 10 streaming original series, along with two other Paramount+ favorites, Tulsa King and Lioness. Per Paramount Global, the premiere episode has amassed 35M global viewers.
Landman holds the titles for most-watched global premiere and finale of any Paramount+ series to date, the company says.
Set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas, Landman is a modern-day tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs. Based on the 11-part podcast “Boomtown,” the series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big,...

The official description for Netflix’s new documentary Chaos: The Manson Murders invites viewers to “Explore a conspiracy of mind control, CIA experiments and murder.”
The trailer for the Errol Morris-directed film, which is based on Tom O’Neill and Dan Piepenbring’s 2019 book (Chaos: Charles Manson, the CIA, and the Secret History of the Sixties), suggests roughly the same thing, with lots of flashy editing and creepy Manson cutaways.
This is probably a recipe to deliver the largest audience of Morris’ storied career, because there are few things the Netflix algorithm steers people to more reliably than sensationalistic chronicles of mass murderers.
I’ll be interested to see how audiences respond to Chaos — whether some viewers come away thinking the doc actually advocates for “a conspiracy of mind control, CIA experiments and murder,” which it definitely doesn’t, and whether some viewers get frustrated because it fails to prove “a conspiracy of mind control,...

When Errol Morris was a graduate student in philosophy at University of California Berkeley, he made a “pilgrimage” to the California Medical Facility prison in Vacaville. Interested in insanity pleas and murder, the future Oscar-winning documentarian was there to interview the serial killer Ed Kemper. But while at the Cmf, he was given another unexpected opportunity.
“I was asked by the guard following my interview, ‘You interested in meeting Charles Manson?’” Morris recalls in a recent interview. “And I said, ‘Sure! Of course I am.’”

Sylvester Stallone is one of today's biggest television stars as the titular lead in the hit Paramount+ series, Tulsa King. Looking back, the actor is giving credit to a 25-year-old film of his for helping to prepare him for his Tulsa King role.
On Instagram, Stallone shared a post to acknowledge the 25th anniversary of his 2000 film Get Carter. A remake of Michael Caine's 1971 movie of the same name, Get Carter featured Stallone in the role of a mob enforcer. While the movie flopped at the time of its release, Stallone noted that he considers Get Carter to be one of the best movies he's ever made. He also felt that the film reminds him so much of his new role on Tulsa King that it wouldn't be a stretch to refer to Get Carter as a prequel to the show.

When we discuss Hollywood flops, it's important to stress that the term "flop" has nothing to do with the quality of the film. It's strictly about the movie's extreme financial failure. Francis Ford Coppola's "One from the Heart" was a massive flop, but, over 40 years later, it's now considered by many to be an artistic triumph (something to keep in mind as we move further away from the wipeout of 2024's "Megalopolis"). Brian De Palma's "Casualties of War" was a costly bomb for the legendary filmmaker, but the movie received rave reviews at the time and still stands as one of the greatest Vietnam War films ever made. And while Michael Lehmann's "Hudson Hawk" might've thrown a dent into Bruce Willis' commercial reputation, people with exquisite taste have come to recognize its anarchic genius.

This article contains spoilers for Landman season 1, episode 10, “The Crumbs of Hope”
Landman co-creator Christian Wallace teases a larger role for Demi Moore in the aftermath of an eventful season 1 finale. Moore plays Cami Miller in the Taylor Sheridan oil drama, which recently concluded its first season. The wife of the wealthy Monty Miller (Jon Hamm), and a friend to the lead character Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton), Cami doesn't get much focus for most of the Paramount+ series. It's a choice that has faced some criticism, particularly because Landman came out on the heels of Moore's award-winning performance in Coralie Fargeat's body horror film The Substance.
In an interview with Variety, Wallace teased a bigger role for Moore in Landman season 2. Wallace, who is behind the Boomtown podcast that the Paramount+ show is based on, praised Moore's performance in The Substance and said that fellow co-creator Taylor Sheridan...

The audience for “Landman” is only getting bigger. The Taylor Sheridan drama starring Billy Bob Thornton was seen by 14.9 million households globally in its first four weeks, according to internal metrics for Paramount+.
This number cements “Landman” as the most-watched Paramount+ original of all time. Chalk up one more ratings superlative for Yellowstone as it (potentially) rides into the sunset.
The Dec. 15 finale of season five — which wrapped up a host of plot threads — brought in 11.4 million same-day viewers on Paramount Network and CMT, according to VideoAmp data. That’s the largest night one audience (excluding encores and broader simulcasts) in Yellowstone’s history.
Three-day ratings, released Dec. 23, pushed the episode up to 13.1 million viewers, growing by 1.7 million viewers (about 15 percent) and also setting a high mark for the series over three days (and again, not including wider-ranging simulcasts.
The 11.4 million viewers for the finale matches the three-day average for the first four episodes of season 5B, and it pulls the back half of the season to a night one average of 10.3 million viewers, up 4 percent from about 9.9 million across Paramount Network and CMT for the first part of season five in late 2022.

Exclusive: The upcoming Season 5 finale of Yellowstone will not be the end of the Dutton clan’s story. Series standouts Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser have closed deals to lead a spinoff series, reprising their roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, respectively, sources tell Deadline.
Taylor Sheridan, the mastermind behind Yellowstone and its ever-expanding universe, is working on the creative for the new show, which will likely feature other cast members from the mothership series alongside Reilly and Hauser, I hear. Led by Yellowstone characters played by the same actors in the same present-day time frame, the new offshoot shares the most DNA with the mothership of any shows in the Yellowstone universe to date, which explains why it will be the first spinoff to carry Yellowstone in the title, sources said.

The first episode of “Landman” hit 14.6 million viewers in its first week of availability, according to Paramount. That total accounts for streams on Paramount+ as well as linear airings on the Paramount Network.
Paramount did not define what it counts as a viewer; therefore, it is unclear how much of the episode the reported number of viewers watched. Some streamers, like Netflix and Disney, opt to measure in “views,” which are calculated by dividing the total amount of time a title was watched by its runtime, while others, including both Paramount and Amazon Prime Video are more vague. Therefore, 14.6 million could potentially refer to the number of viewers who watched any portion of the “Landman” premiere.
Paramount also reports that 6.7 million households worldwide tuned into the premiere in one week, marking the best-ever performance for a Paramount+ original. On Nov. 17, the day the series premiered, 1.5 households in the U.S.

Chalk up another strong series debut for Taylor Sheridan: The showrunner’s drama Landman brought in a sizable audience for its Nov. 17 premiere.
The series opener accumulated 5.2 million viewers on Paramount+ and Paramount Network, where it aired following episode two of Yellowstone’s current run. The streaming portion of that total makes it the top Paramount+ series debut in two years — since another Sheridan series, Yellowstone prequel 1923, opened to 7.4 million cross-platform viewers (including several encores) in December 2022.
Paramount+ says Landman, which stars Billy Bob Thornton as a Texas oilman, joins 1923 and Tulsa King as the streamer’s top series premieres, and that its streaming-only audience in the United States is the biggest for any original on the service after three days.
The 5.2 million viewer total for Landman comes from VideoAmp linear measurement of the Paramount Network airing and internal streaming data for Paramount+. Like most streaming outlets, Paramount+ didn’t offer detailed viewing data,...

Yellowstone Season 5B debut is now the show’s biggest launch to date.
According to Paramount Global, the premiere episode amassed more than 21M viewers in the three days post-debut, up 29% from its live + same-day audience, to be the best premiere night ever in the U.S. for Yellowstone.
At first glance, a 29% lift might seem a bit like small potatoes, but it’s very clear that Yellowstone had a strong same-night draw, as the series already returned to its biggest premiere night audience ever with 16.4M viewers last Sunday. The three-day numbers just seem to be the icing on the cake.
As Paramount is still locked in a battle with Nielsen, these numbers are a combination of internal data from Paramount+, based on active sub households, as well as linear figures provided by VideoAmp for the initial CBS and encore airings. Since is not possible for Paramount to determine...

After 25 years, Ali Larter still isn’t used to filming intimate scenes, but she appreciates the new era of safe on-set environments.
The Landman star recently opened up about working with the Paramount+ series’ “amazing” intimacy coordinator Mam Smith on her scenes with co-star Billy Bob Thornton, noting that she finds on-set intimacy “terribly uncomfortable.”
“It’s awful. I wouldn’t even say it’s easier when you’re 19,” Larter told Yahoo Entertainment after making her whipped cream-clad breakout performance in 1999’s Varsity Blues.
“You know, at this point, I’ve carried two babies,” she said. “So, I’m like, if you still want to see it, let’s go.”
Although she doesn’t feel that filming intimate scenes “ever gets easier,” Larter raved of working with Smith, “She’s there with us the whole time. They close the sets down.”

Plot: Set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas, the series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.
Review: Taylor Sheridan has continued to expand Paramount’s roster of series to the point that they may want to reconsider naming their services after him. The writer-director has created shows centered on cowboys, outlaws, criminals, prisoners, soldiers, and historical figures. With Yellowstone returning to complete its original run and five other series on the air, I was prepared to discount Sheridan’s latest series, Landman, as another variation on his established formula. After seeing the new series led by Billy Bob Thornton, I am excited to say that Landman is Taylor Sheridan’s best series since the debut of Yellowstone. On June 20, 2018, Paramount Network aired the first episode of a neo-Western drama television series called Yellowstone – and a megahit franchise was born. Lately, news regarding the franchise has been focused on what’s coming further down the line. We’ve been hearing casting announcements about the spin-off series The Madison and 1923, and we’ve heard that the flagship show, which was said to be ending with “season 5, part 2,” might continue with a sixth season after all… but before we get there, we still need to see Yellowstone season 5, part 2, which has a premiere date of Sunday, November 10th at 8pm Et/Pt. With the premiere dates almost upon us, JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray had to the chance to sit down for interviews with Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler), Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton), and Gil Birmingham (Thomas Rainwater), and you can find out what they had to say about Yellowstone...

Netflix’s Territory might feel like a sibling to Yellowstone—with its rugged landscapes, high-stakes family drama, and power battles over land. But it’s pulling off one thing Yellowstone couldn’t quite master. Where Yellowstone brings out the grit, Territory goes a step further, blending that intensity with a sharper, more dynamic edge that hits home with today’s audience.

It’s like Yellowstone’s rebellious younger cousin, bringing a modern touch without losing that crazy frontier feel. Sure, there are similarities, but Territory’s fresh take on land battles feels like it’s giving Taylor Sheridan a run for his money in unexpected ways.

The oil business affects everything in the wild West Texas town of Landman, and Billy Bob Thornton is a key cog in that machine.
The second trailer for the next Taylor Sheridan series, this time about the oil business, focuses on Thornton’s Tommy Norris, a crisis manager in the oil industry, and peels back more of the relationships between the star-studded ensemble that includes Thornton, Jon Hamm, Demi Moore and Ali Larter.
“Men die, oil companies don’t,” says Tommy (Thornton) in the high-octane trailer (below), as he describes himself as “a divorced alcoholic with $500 thousand in debt” and pulls his son (Jacob Lofland) into the business.
Hamm stars in a recurring guest role as Monty Miller, a Texas oil industry titan with a long personal and professional relationship with Tommy; Moore plays Cami, the wife of another powerful oil man in Texas and friend of Norris; and Larter plays Norris’ ex-wife.

The Dutton family civil war in Yellowstone breaks out into open warfare in the official trailer for the second half of season five.
“I can’t do this anymore,” anxious cattle rancher’s daughter Beth Dutton, played by Kelly Reilly, says at one point in the trailer. “Well, you’re gonna have to, honey. Or we’re gonna lose this place,” her ranch hand husband, Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), warns her as the Paramount Network drama makes its long-awaiting return after the first five episodes of season five ended back in January 2023.
“This war is just beginning,” says Kevin Costner, who is not returning after his high-profile exit from the Yellowstone ranch as John Dutton, and yet appears very much in the trailer in scenes likely to wrap his character. In a major cast disruption, Costner left the show after the fifth season hiatus for Yellowstone, partly to focus on his Horizon film saga.

It should be appointment-viewing for fans of the series — who knows how many episodes Kevin Costner has left?
Costner, as you’ll recall, had a major falling out with series co-creator Taylor Sheridan. Between the scheduling conflicts, lengthy delays, threatened lawsuits, and general bickering, it’s been about as messy as their on-screen drama. The long and the short of it is that nobody, including Costner, expects Dutton to make it very deep into the show’s final episodes.

Yellowstone season 5, part 2, has a premiere date of Sunday, November 10 at 8pm Et/Pt. Although it was originally thought that the series would end with season 5, part 2, especially with the shaky ties the show has with star Kevin Costner, there is still a possibility that the series might continue on with season 6 in addition to the spin-offs that are planned.
Paramount Network has now unveiled the official trailer to the next part of the fifth season of Yellowstone.
TV’s #1 show, produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, Yellowstone chronicles the Dutton family who controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States. Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-earned respect – the ranch is in constant conflict with those it borders – an expanding town, an Indian reservation, and America’s first national park.

The trailer for “Yellowstone” Season 5 Part 2 is finally here, almost two years after Part 1 wrapped up way back in January 2023.
The deeply American cowboy series returns on November 10. The beloved show became a popular sensation as the most-watched cable TV show for two summers in a row in 2018 and 2019. By 2023, when the first part of this season premiered on Paramount Network, 8.8 million people tuned in to view the show. Simulcasts across Country Music Television, TV Land, and Pop TV brought that number up to 10.5 million.
The drama stars Kevin Costner, who won a Golden Globe for his role but has since departed the series. Costner plays the big-time Montana rancher and patriarch of the Dutton family alongside Kelly Reilly, who plays his daughter and business partner; Wes Bentley, who embodies his not-so-trustworthy son Jamie; Luke Grimes, who personifies his complex cowboy son Kayce; and Cole Hauser as his right-hand man,...

Yellowstone cast members Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, and Kelsey Asbille take fans on a look behind-the-scenes in the new featurette from the set. The two-minute video reveals that not even the cast were aware of what their co-stars’ storylines were for part two of season five. It was all very hush-hush on the set, and the actors received scripts that had large redacted areas. No one wanted to spoil the experience for fans who’ve been waiting two long years for the second half of the final season to arrive.
The first episode of part two premieres on Paramount Network and CBS on Sunday, November 10, 2024.

The season five return of Yellowstone is so secretive that not even the cast knows how it’s all going to play out. The show’s stars revealed on Friday that the back half of the season came with redacted scripts so the actors would only know their own lines, eliciting real-time reactions in some cases as they filmed the show’s return, which is in production in Montana and airs later this fall.
“This season has been very secretive,” says Kelsey Asbille, who plays Monica Dutton, in a revealing video tease released by Paramount Network on Friday (below) that includes interviews with the main castmembers who make up the Dutton family — Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Luke Grimes and Cole Hauser. Star Kevin Costner, who played patriarch John Dutton, famously exited the series ahead of the final run, and how the show will handle his storyline remains under lock and key.

CBS has roped in a bonus broadcast airing of the the long-awaited “Yellowstone” return. The Eye network will air the premiere of Season 5’s part 2 — the show’s first original episode in nearly two years — on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 10 p.m. Et.
That reps a quick secondary broadcast window for the episode, which premieres on the Paramount Network earlier that evening at 8 p.m. Et. The CBS airing will preempt that night’s originally scheduled episode of “The Equalizer,” and will air following an episode of CBS’ hit “Tracker.”
In other parts of the globe, “Yellowstone” returns on Paramount+ in Canada on Nov. 10 and in the U.K. on Nov. 11. The show will be back on Paramount+ in Latin America, Brazil and France at a later date.
CBS viewers are no strangers to “Yellowstone,” of course, as the Eye network has previously aired repeats episodes from the hit series’ first three seasons.

Lilli Kay marked a historic moment in Yellowstone when she appeared on the series and shared a romantic kiss with another woman. A new member of the Yellowstone cast in season 5, Lilli Kay first appeared in episode 2, "The Sting of Wisdom" as Clara Brewer, the new assistant to Governor John Dutton (Kevin Costner). Clara is capable and loyal, and much more professional than the family members and ranch hands John is used to working with, and their chemistry together was one of the best additions to season 5.
While Kay is only joining Yellowstone in season 5, she's been connected to Taylor Sheridan's show for much longer. Her father, Stephen Kay, is an executive producer on the series and has directed multiple episodes, including his daughter's debut. Kay's stepmother, Piper Perabo, was also a recurring cast member in Yellowstone seasons 4 and 5 as Summer Higgins. Lilli Kay is a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ+ community,...

Paramount+’s official Landman trailer begins with Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton explaining that his character’s job in the oil industry is to secure the land and manage the people. And of the two, it’s the people – the second part of the equation – that can get you killed.
In addition to Thornton, the season one cast includes Ali Larter (The Last Victim), Michelle Randolph (1923), Jacob Lofland (Joker 2), Kayla Wallace (When Calls the Heart), and James Jordan (Yellowstone). Mark Collie (Nashville), Paulina Chávez (The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia), and Demi Moore (Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans) also star.
Jon Hamm (Fargo) appears in a recurring guest role, with Andy Garcia (Expendables franchise) and Michael Peña (End of Watch) guest starring.
