Exclusive: Police Academy veteran Steve Guttenberg and Vacation‘s Christie Brinkley have boarded Michael W. Gray’s coming-of-age family comedy American Summer.

Shooting has begun in Northern New Jersey and will extend into mid-October. Gray is directing from a script he wrote with Jennifer B. White.

Exclusive: Vertical has snapped up North American rights to Miranda’s Victim, a courtroom drama starring Academy Award nominee Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine) that world premiered as the opener for the 2023 Santa Barbara Film Festival. The Wonder Years is set for its arrival on ABC, and the network is celebrating the premiere of the revival by honoring the original series with cast members appearing on The Conners, Home Economics, and The Goldbergs. ABC on Thursday announced that the cast of The Conners will perform Season 4’s Sept. 22 premiere live for both the East and West Coasts. This marks the veteran sitcom’s second live episode, following Season 2’s New Hampshire Primary-themed event.

This time around, viewers will have the opportunity to “guest-star” alongside their favorite blue-collar family.

The Conners are going live. The upcoming Season 4 premiere of the ABC comedy will be another live episode, the network announced Thursday.

The cast will perform versions of the episode for both the east and west coast broadcasts when the show returns on Wednesday, Sept. 22. ABC will also launch a “You Can Be a Conner” sweepstakes allowing fans to enter to be part of the episode via a live conversation about “how they deal with some of the same life issues that the Conners navigate on a daily basis.”

The winners will be called on-air by a member of the Conner family as part of the episode’s storyline.

Its new incarnation follows the Black middle-class Williams family in Montgomery, Al, during the turbulent late 1960s. Dean Williams (Elisha “E.J.” Williams) is the 12-year-old at the center of the coming of age story and Don Cheadle narrates as the voice of adult Dean.

His family consists of his parents, Bill (Dulé Hill) and Lillian (Saycon Sengbloh), and siblings Kim (Laura Kariuki) and Brad (Julian Lerner).

The series will fold real moments from history from the era like the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968. Fred Savage, star of the original The Wonder Years, directed the premiere and executive produced on the new The Wonder Years, alongside creator Saladin K. ABC's highly-anticipated reboot of The Wonder Years finally gets underway Wednesday, September 22 (8:30-9:00 p.m. Edt), and ABC has just announced the original cast will be staging a takeover event.

The exciting night of nostalgia will kick off with a guest appearance by Dan Lauria (Jack Arnold) on The Goldbergs.

Then, we'll get a nod to the iconic theme song originally covered by Joe Cocker in the all-new episode of The Wonder Years, airing that same night.

Exclusive: Dark Star Pictures has acquired North American rights to Potato Dreams of America, writer-director Wes Hurley’s autobiographical dark comedy that had its world premiere at this year’s SXSW. The pic will get a U.S. theatrical release in Q1 2022 followed by a digital bow, and the deal comes as the pic readies for Los Angeles premiere tonight at Outfest LA where it is in the official lineup. Don Cheadle has been tapped to narrate ABC’s “The Wonder Years” reboot pilot, TheWrap has confirmed.

The “Black Monday” star will voice the adult version of the show’s central character, Dean, as he reflects back on his younger self growing up in 1968. Elisha “Ej” Williams will star in the pilot as the 12-year-old version of Dean, alongside Saycon Sengbloh, Dulé Hill and Laura Kariuki.

Put into development last summer, “The Wonder Years” reboot is written and executive produced by “Dave” executive producer Saladin Patterson. Lee Daniels also executive produces alongside Marc Velez of Lee Daniels Entertainment.

Original series star Fred Savage will direct the reboot pilot and executive produce, with “The Wonder Years” co-creator Neal Marlens serving as a consultant on the project from 20th Television.

The original “Wonder Years” ran for six seasons on ABC from 1988-1993 and focused on the Arnolds, a middle class white suburban family.

The question of how to convey characters speaking a language other than English in a fully English-language production is one that many a director of an exotically-set Hollywood production or lumpy Europudding has faced over the years. For those who simply cannot resort to subtitles, the artifice of heavily accented English dialogue is a stilted standby. “Potato Dreams of America” finds an unusual way around the problem, though it takes some time for its cleverness to emerge.

Lee Daniels’ upcoming reboot of “The Wonder Years” has found its new Kevin Arnold… er, Dean.

The ABC pilot cast Elisha “Ej” Williams to play Dean, the 12-year-old boy that serves as the center of the show, much the same way Fred Savage’s Kevin Arnold did in the original “Wonder Years.”

Here’s how ABC describes the character: “”Dean is an inquisitive and hopeful 12-year-old kid coming of age in a turbulent time. It’s 1968 in Montgomery, Alabama — and Dean is trying to figure out his place within his Black family and the world at large. Though a little insecure, a tad awkward and a bit self-conscious, he is determined to make his mark on the world around him.”

Williams joins Saycon Sengbloh, who will play his mother, Lillian, in the pilot.

Saycon Sengbloh will star in Lee Daniels’ reboot of “The Wonder Years” at ABC, which currently has a pilot order.

Sengbloh will play Lillian Williams, the mother of the family at the center of the show. The new version of the classic TV series will shift the focus to a Black middle class family in Alabama.

Aside from being together (tough right now for some), the matriarch or patriarch is thinking about how to keep the home crew safe from harm and secure in their toasty beds. Unlike the Garrity clan from this week’s other big release Greenland, the Sharpe’s isn’t dealing with a planet-killing comet. His fears arise from the possible onslaught of stealthy intruders in the dead of night. It’s too bad that he doesn’t recall the quote from one of the founding fathers (maybe more of a cool uncle), Ben Franklin: “Those who would give up essential Liberty to purchase a little temporary Safety deserve neither Liberty nor Safety”. Still, it probably didn’t occur to him that his fears could inspire his whole “unit” to succumb to a Bad Impulse.

There are few show cancellations that get me as riled up as the sad case of Fox's Pitch.
