Exclusive: Netflix’s popular romantic drama Virgin River has cast Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries) and Cody Kearsley (Riverdale) in recurring roles for the upcoming seventh season, which has begun production, with Deadline able to share two behind the scenes images from the set in Vancouver featuring most main cast members, including stars Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson (You can see them below). The new season, which will pick up two hours after the end of the Season 6 finale at Mel (Breckenridge) and Jack’s (Henderson) wedding, is expected to premiere in early 2026.

Based on Robyn Carr’s novel series of the same name, Netflix’s successful romantic drama series, Virgin River, dives into small town issues and Jack and Mel’s love story. Mel, who moved to Virgin River to work there as a midwife and escape the pain of the traumatic loss of her husband and unborn child, meets ex-Marine Jack, who carries his own trauma-filled package. The Virgin River showrunner confirms that a key character will not be returning in season 7. Virgin River is a Netflix romantic drama that began in 2019. The series has been largely well-liked by viewers across its six seasons and has already been renewed for season 7. Virgin River features a leading cast including Alexandra Breckenridge, Martin Henderson, Colin Lawrence, Tim Matheson, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Mark Ghanimé, Sarah Dugdale, and Annette O'Toole. Season 6 was released on December 19.

Speaking with TVLine, Virgin River showrunner Patrick Sean Smith reveals that Ghanimé will not return for season 7. The showrunner states plainly that he "won't be a series regular for season 7." The showrunner did not rule out the possibility that Ghanimé's character, Cameron, could return to the franchise in the future, expressing his reverence for the character and actor. Based on the series of novels by Robyn Carr, Virgin River follows the denizens of the titular town and their myriad lives, loves, and secrets. In the Virgin River season 6 finale, Mel and Jack's wedding day has finally arrived, and they run away from their own wedding! The couple rides off on Sugar and finds a moment of solace together in one of the first places Jack took Mel when they met. Before swapping vows, Mel shares her fears about the past and the future with Jack. It's the breather they needed before starting forever.

Netflix confirmed the upcoming sixth season of Virgin River won’t be its last. The streamer officially announced the series has been renewed for a 10-episode season seven. The announcement was made ahead of the show’s December 19, 2024 sixth season premiere.

Alexandra Breckenridge stars as Mel, Martin Henderson plays Jack, Tim Matheson is Doc, Annette O’Toole is Hope, and Colin Lawrence plays Preacher. Per Deadline, Netflix has officially renewed Virgin River for season 7. This news comes nearly two full months ahead of the premiere of season 6. This renewal will make the show break the streaming platform's record for the longest-running English-language drama. The only other show to have run for more seasons is the Spanish teen drama Elite, which concluded in July after running for eight seasons.Virgin River has now also become the longest-running ongoing scripted original on Netflix.

Just in time for Christmas — the sixth season of Virgin River is set to premiere Dec. 19. And it’s not one of those half-season drops that Netflix has been doing a lot of lately — all 10 episodes of Season 6 will be available that day.

That is slightly ahead of schedule — Netflix at the start of February unveiled its 2024 original slate, and Virgin River, along with a slew of other fan favorites, like Stranger Things, Ginny & Georgia and Wednesday, were not on the list, pointing to a 2025 return.

However, nothing is set in stone — Virgin River is the second series originally eyed for 2025 that will be back sooner than anticipated. The other is The Lincoln Lawyer, whose third season was delivered early and will debute Oct. 17.

Meanwhile, a series that was on Netflix’s 2024 release list, Season 2 of breakout hit The Night Agent, is yet to get a premiere date.
