The isekai anime genre gets a bad reputation, and to be fair, it might be more than justified. Many of the most popular entries in this genre are rather infamous among anime fans, and this is usually because of their perceived lack of quality. Despite these connotations, there are many of these shows that deserve at least some of the praise they've garnered.
From weird reincarnations to lovable losers, some of the most despised isekai are still great examples of the genre. They may not feature award-winning writing and can involve some rather problematic tropes, but they're not nearly as bad as the haters make them out to be. Most importantly, they tend to perfectly illustrate the fun inherent in the isekai genre, even if that means reveling in some of its excesses.
