Luckey is the father of writer/producer Andy Luckey.

Became an animator at Pixar shortly after its inception, and continued to work with them and provide voice work for their movies until his death in 2018.

Wrote the music for animated segments in the first few seasons of Sesame Street that he also directed, with Don Hadley writing the lyrics. Luckey also sang some of them, usually as a farmer named Donnie Budd, whose name was a combination of Luckey and Hadley's first names.

He is interred at Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park in Billings, Montana.

The character Andy from Toy Story was named after his son.
