Dick Maas

Trivia

Dick Maas

Edit
  • Was offered to direct a sequel to A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), but he passed on the opportunity, as he preferred to do Amsterdamned (1988) first. He later admitted that he should have postponed the latter film. Was also approached to make a film with Jean-Claude Van Damme, but declined because he had just founded his own movie studio and couldn't leave the Netherlands so soon. He later regretted both decisions, calling them the reason why he didn't have a Hollywood career.
  • Scores his own movies, because not hiring an external composer allows him to save money for additional days of filming.
  • Dick Maas makes a name for himself in far flung China as he sold his rights of Prey (2016) to a Chinese distributor, making it an over night success in mainland China (2019).
  • Followed 'de Nederlandse Filmacademie' and graduated in 1977 with the movie Adelbert (1977) about suicide.
  • Son of actress Inge Beekman.
  • Formed the highly successful production company First Floor Features together with his business partner Laurens Geels, but after a string of box office bombs, the company got in financial troubles. Maas left after Geels had sold off the rights of the company's intellectual property without notifying him. The company went bankrupt a few years later.
