Her intended role was for the small, supporting character named Roberta Trett, later played by Trudi Goodman. "I thought I was going to pass out," Perrin said about seeing Affleck at the audition. Our Flag Means Death has officially “reached the end of the road,” Series creator David Jenkins has revealed on Instagram that the period comedy has failed to find a new home following its cancellation on Max in January after two seasons.

“I can officially confirm that we’ve reached the end of the road,” Jenkins wrote. “At least as far as this sweet show is concerned. After many complimentary meetings, conversations, etc it seems there is no alternate home for our crew. Thank you to all of you who sent us out with tremendous love and care. Your campaign was noticed across the industry. But more importantly it made all of us who worked on this show better able to deal with the loss.”

Jenkins continued. “To you wonderful fans: thank you. You are lovely and earnest. Those kinds of things feel in short supply at times. But they aren’t.

Two of HBO and Max’s biggest dramas have welcomed new cast members this past week.

First, the Emmy-nominated post-apocalyptic survival drama “The Last of Us” announced “Dopesick” star Kaitlyn Dever will be joining the show’s second season, based on the sequel video game in Naughty Dog’s “Last of Us” franchise. Dever will play new co-lead Abby, “a skilled soldier whose black-and-white view of the world is challenged as she seeks vengeance for those she loved.”

Emmy nominee Young Mazino (“Beef”) will also join Season 2 as Jesse, “a pillar of his community who puts everyone else’s needs before his own, sometimes at [a] terrible cost.”

Per Deadline, it has been revealed that Our Flag Means Death has been canceled with no third season on the way. This news follows the show wrapping up its second season in October 2023, and its future had since been unclear. The Quarry is an 11-minute animated short film comedy made by the illustrator / animation filmmaker Graham Mason based in NYC. it was originally created for Adult Swim Smalls, their short films spin-off featuring all kinds of wacky, weird creations. The Quarry is described as a "soap opera about rocks" though it's much more of a sitcom about rocks working at a quarry. It likely won't be turned into a primetime sitcom anytime soon, but it's a fun escape into the wacky world of rocks trying to, uh, have a solid life. The sitcom Our Flag Means Death has behaved in a very piratey way, quite frankly. When it burst onto the scene last year, it unexpectedly plundered fans’ hearts, leaving their new favorite ship – between Rhys Darby as Stede Bonnet and Taika Waititi as Blackbeard – wrecked, and left us stranded on a cliffhanger of a finale desperate for a second series.

Thankfully, the treasure that is season two of Our Flag Means Death is released on Max on Oct. 5, and it’s as adorable as ever, with a whole crew of new characters to fall in love with:

On Sept. 14, HBO released the trailer for "Our Flag Means Death" season two, which finds our lovable band of chaotic pirates facing not just the perils of danger but also of love. The first trailer for “Our Flag Means Death” Season 2 has arrived, and it’s full of old romances and new characters.

The show picks up right where Season 1 left off. “Our Flag Means Death” will follow Gentleman Pirate captain Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) as he tries to reunite his crew and apologize to his best friend and new love, Ed, aka Blackbeard (Taika Waititi).

After a near-death experience, Season 1 ended with Stede choosing to return to his old life and wife rather than sail away with Ed. It wasn’t a rejection that the notoriously violent Blackbeard took well and that’s set to be a main crux of this new season.

In addition to Darby and Waititi, Season 2 stars returning cast members Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matthew Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, David Fane, Samba Schutte, Nat Faxon and Leslie Jones.

The show's first season climaxed with Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and Ed "Blackbeard" Teach (Taika Waititi) confessing their feelings for each other, only to split apart due to Stede's insecurity. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jenkins discussed where the second season finds the star-crossed pirates. "It's interesting to see Stede have to figure out how to reapproach this guy that he really hurt," he explained. "That's everybody who's ever been in a relationship where they had to repair it and apologize to their partner and try to figure out a way forward. And then [we'll] see what happened to Blackbeard in the wake of his heartbreak." Jenkins added, "They're both pretty immature in their own way. The course of this season is: Can they find their way to maybe a more mature form of love?...

“The Great” Canceled at Hulu

The reign of “The Great” is over at Hulu. The streamer has officially canceled the series after three seasons, coming as a shock for the fan-favorite alternate history satire.

Ofmd has an incredibly passionate fan base, and they’ve kept the series in the spotlight on Twitter since season one wrapped up on March 24, 2022. After announcing season two way back in June 2022 and keeping fans anxiously awaiting more of Stede Bonnet and Blackbeard, Max has now confirmed the second season will premiere on October 5, 2023 with the release of the first three episodes.

Two new episodes of the eight-episode season will arrive on Thursdays, with the season finale set for October 26.

I've never been on a boat long enough to develop cabin fever. Still, I imagine it feels a little like having to wait several months for Warner Bros. Discovery to finally renew its surprise-hit queer pirate comedy series "Our Flag Means Death", and then having to wait another 14 months for hard evidence that season 2 is actually a thing that exists.

Thankfully, we can leave the passive aggression to 18th-century aristocratic high society for now, and instead take joy in knowing "Our Flag Means Death" is not only coming back for more hijinks and romance on the high seas, it's coming back soon. Picking up where season 1 left things, this new season will continue the love story of everyone's favorite pirate dads, Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and Edward "Ed" Teach/Blackbeard (Taika Waititi), as they -- hopefully! -- find their way back to one another after a series of unfortunate events...

After nearly a year and a half of waiting, Max’s pirate rom-com “Our Flag Means Death” will return on Oct. 5.

The first teaser for this new installment picks up right where Season 1 left off. Though the newly-in-love Stede (Rhys Darby) and Blackbeard (Taika Waititi) planned to run away together, a hostile encounter kept Stede away from the man he loves. Stede’s holdup caused Blackbeard to believe he had been abandoned.

The teaser starts with Stede tossing a bottled message into the ocean as his voiceover reads, “Dear Ed, I love everything about you. I love being near you, breathing the same air.”

As Stede waxes poetic about his new love, Blackbeard angrily growls “F–k you, Stede Bonnet.” The rest of the teaser bounces between Stede reading his love letter and defending Blackbeard and his heartbroken lover generally causing havoc in any way he can.
