Trading Spouses icon and 'God Warrior' Marguerite Perrin recalls she was offered a part in Ben Affleck's directorial debut, Gone Baby Gone. She recently revealed why she turned down the part.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Perrin said that at the height of her fame, she auditioned for Affleck's neo-noir crime thriller flick, Gone Baby Gone. Her intended role was for the small, supporting character named Roberta Trett, later played by Trudi Goodman. "I thought I was going to pass out," Perrin said about seeing Affleck at the audition. "It was Ben Affleck standing there. I said, ‘Oh my God, I’m starstruck! I didn’t think I was going to see you.'"

You always hear about whistleblowers––those who smuggle documentation for the benefit of the public out of corporations trying to make or save a buck at the expense of human lives––but what about those who decide the risk is too great? They’ve procured the papers. Got out of the building. And now find themselves victims of escalating harassment with nowhere to turn. Maybe they’re offered a settlement to have it all go away, but can they trust someone willing to bury evidence that proves culpability for the extinguishing of innocent lives? These are scientists, not lawyers. Paper-pushers, not security operatives. They need help.

A striking legacy of 9/11 is how the United States government exploited national grief and panic to pass aggressive legislation stripping Americans of privacy rights. The Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act, also known as the Patriot Act, was passed in October 2001, 45 days after the Twin Towers fell, and gave the government “roving surveillance authority.” Agents wouldn’t need a warrant to tap email communications or phone calls, or to monitor credit reports and banking history. Cloaked in the language of safety, the Patriot Act turned every person into a suspect. In the decades since, Americans have become so used to forfeiting privacy that we willingly opt-in to technologies and resources asking for data.

This post contains spoilers for "Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play."
"The Simpsons" has a wide-ranging cultural influence, but how many episodes of the long-running series can say they inspired an entire postmodern play? At least one: "Cape Feare," the classic season 5 outing in which Sideshow Bob (Kelsey Grammer) stalks Bart and forces the Simpsons family into witness protection.
Originally well-received, the episode has only grown in public estimation in the years since it aired, landing on many lists of the show's best episodes and earning an undeniable place in the hallowed halls of pop culture history. It's only fitting, then, that when playwright Anne Washburn decided to dream up a story about a post-apocalyptic world in which entertainment junkies clung to fragments of their favorite TV shows, putting them on as plays that would ultimately shape the mythology of the new world, "Cape Feare" took center stage. Washburn's thought-provoking postmodern play,...

Plenty of hilarious comedy shows don't get enough time. Famous comedians and exciting premises can't always save their shows from cancelation. Even when a show is canceled and revived years later, the damage is already done.
There's nothing more frustrating than when a great TV show is canceled too soon, and plenty of great comedies have been cut short in recent years. Comedy shows often need more time than drama shows to find their audience, but this tests the patience of networks and streaming platforms. Unfortunately, if a comedy show doesn't hit the ground running, it's always at risk of cancelation.
These days, TV cancelations seem to be happening more frequently, and more unpredictably, than ever before. The streaming era has meant that there are more shows competing for people's attention. Shows which don't instantly rise to this competition can be canceled, even if they have dedicated cult followings. There...

Networks and streaming services such as CBS and Netflix have made errors with their recent TV series cancelations. Networks are no stranger to these kinds of errors, as evidenced by the cancelation of Firefly, which is often regarded as a notorious cancelation in TV history. The trend has continued into recent years with Lockwood & Co being canceled last year and resulting in uproar from critics and fans.
Network executives have proven out of touch with their viewers. They recently canceled several shows with undeniable potential, such as Our Flag Means Death. The negative fan reactions to recent cancelation news prove that the interest in these series is alive and well. There is no doubt that the cancelation of several popular series this year is a mistake that should be corrected.

Our Flag Means Death has officially “reached the end of the road,” Series creator David Jenkins has revealed on Instagram that the period comedy has failed to find a new home following its cancellation on Max in January after two seasons.
“I can officially confirm that we’ve reached the end of the road,” Jenkins wrote. “At least as far as this sweet show is concerned. After many complimentary meetings, conversations, etc it seems there is no alternate home for our crew. Thank you to all of you who sent us out with tremendous love and care. Your campaign was noticed across the industry. But more importantly it made all of us who worked on this show better able to deal with the loss.”
Jenkins continued. “To you wonderful fans: thank you. You are lovely and earnest. Those kinds of things feel in short supply at times. But they aren’t.

Max is not moving forward with a third season of its period comedy series Our Flag Means Death. Deadline understands that the first two seasons will not be removed from the streaming service.
From David Jenkins, Our Flag Means Death is based (very) loosely on the true adventures of 18th-century would-be pirate Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby). After trading the seemingly charmed life of a gentleman for one of a swashbuckling buccaneer, Stede became captain of the pirate ship Revenge.
Struggling to earn the respect of his potentially mutinous crew, Stede’s fortunes changed after a fateful run-in with the infamous Captain Blackbeard (Taika Waititi).
To their surprise, the wildly different Stede and Blackbeard found more than friendship on the high seas … they found love. Now, they have to survive it.

"Blemish, you don't even like music!" "Who ever said that?" Time for something a bit funky and tons of fun. The Quarry is an 11-minute animated short film comedy made by the illustrator / animation filmmaker Graham Mason based in NYC. it was originally created for Adult Swim Smalls, their short films spin-off featuring all kinds of wacky, weird creations. The Quarry is described as a "soap opera about rocks" though it's much more of a sitcom about rocks working at a quarry. One of them tries to ask out his co-worker on a date, and things don't go as planned. Featuring the voices of Brad Howe, Matthew Maher, Grace Rex, and Peter Smith. It likely won't be turned into a primetime sitcom anytime soon, but it's a fun escape into the wacky world of rocks trying to, uh, have a solid life. I laughed the most at the rock keyboard at the start.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a queer pirate rom-com in possession of an abundance of shipping fans must be in want of a ranking. The runaway hit Our Flag Means Death is back on Max for its sophomore season, and fans are already raving about the first three episodes – and how a certain couple has reunited. With the creators promising lots of heartbreak on the high seas in Season 2, audience-favorite couples are likely about to get quite the shake-up.
Our Flag Means Death consistently garners praise for its LGBTQ+ relationships, given that the show's central couple and many secondary ones are queer. Where other shows tokenize queer characters and their relationships, Our Flag gives them the narrative focus and tells authentic stories about opening up to love, healing through love, and embracing identity. No wonder there's such fan involvement when the stories are tenderly told.

Everyone's favorite queer pirate rom-com, Our Flag Means Death, is back for a raucous Season 2 if the teaser trailers were any indication: love letters in a bottle, pirate queens, and wedding objections among them. When the Season 1 finale left the rag-tag crew of the Revenge scattered across the high seas after the English Navy attacked the ship, one thing was for certain: the friendships and romances fostered on deck under co-captains Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and Blackbeard/Edward Teach (Taika Waititi) would never be the same.
The first three episodes of Season 2, released on October 5, make more than clear to returning fans that this season will be all about exploring what it means to open yourself back up to love, finding community, and committing to the people around you. With new episodes premiering on Max every Thursday until October 26, Cbr is your place for the weekly recap of new episodes.

Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson reunite on screen for the first time since Pulp Fiction in a breezy black comedy that skewers the pompous art world. The Kill Room has a desperate, Adderall-addicted gallery owner, a beholden hitman, and a Black Jewish baker embroiled in a money-laundering scheme for the mob that hilariously spirals out of control. Graphic murders get an unexpected avant-garde display when fancy elites are enamored by the brutal honesty. The glaring spotlight on their illicit activities stirs up big trouble and forces the mismatched protagonists to concoct an even wackier escape strategy.
Patrice Capullo (Thurman) snorts Adderall off her office desk while a new intern struggles to get customers to the art gallery. Leslie (Amy Keum) brings a stack of bills, collection notices, and credit warnings to her broke boss. A once darling of the New York City art scene has become a bust who's...

The art world is a cutthroat and judgemental arena. You’re the cat’s pajamas one day, but you’re old news if you take too long to deliver your next masterpiece. Surrounded by snobbery, bitter wine, and diamond-encrusted vultures waiting to pick your talented bones clean, artists endure a lot to remain relevant, and some would even kill for the chance to keep their spot in the public eye. In today’s The Kill Room trailer, a hitman, his boss, and an art dealer concoct a money laundering scheme that accidentally turns an assassin into an overnight avant-garde sensation.

A pirate's life isn't all that it's cut out to be. On Sept. 14, HBO released the trailer for "Our Flag Means Death" season two, which finds our lovable band of chaotic pirates facing not just the perils of danger but also of love. When the Max series, starring Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi as pirates Stede Bonnet and Edward Teach (aka Blackbeard), premiered in 2022, it roped fans in as a comedy stacked with famously funny actors - but it's the budding romance between the two pirate leads that made them stay. In season two, Stede is trying to win back Ed, while Ed is intent on killing him.
The series was originally renewed back in June 2022. David Jenkins, the show's creator, said in a statement at the time, "We felt the show was special while we were making it, but fans' open-armed embrace of the inhabitants of the Revenge makes...

The first trailer for “Our Flag Means Death” Season 2 has arrived, and it’s full of old romances and new characters.
The show picks up right where Season 1 left off. “Our Flag Means Death” will follow Gentleman Pirate captain Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) as he tries to reunite his crew and apologize to his best friend and new love, Ed, aka Blackbeard (Taika Waititi).
After a near-death experience, Season 1 ended with Stede choosing to return to his old life and wife rather than sail away with Ed. It wasn’t a rejection that the notoriously violent Blackbeard took well and that’s set to be a main crux of this new season.
In addition to Darby and Waititi, Season 2 stars returning cast members Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matthew Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, David Fane, Samba Schutte, Nat Faxon and Leslie Jones.

Stede insists he and Blackbeard are on a break, refuses to admit he dumped the handsome pirate, and is shocked when Blackbeard declares their status as “former” shipmates in the trailer for Max’s Our Flag Means Death season two. Ready the cannons! Not only does season 2 of "Our Flag Means Death" actually exist, but a brand new trailer now exists to prove it to all the non-believers! Honestly, folks should have already been back on deck, as Max delivered a little teaser back in August as a morsel of a treat to hold fans over until the show's triumphant return. In fact, it almost felt as if "Ofmd" was going to be yet another casualty of David Zaslav's kink for obliterating the Warner Bros. Discovery (and Max streaming service) library to earn tax write-downs, but the fandom rallied and made sure to justify the cost of the reported 50 different sets necessary for season 2 to play out. All too often, pirate shows and movies take the swashbuckling life a little too seriously, but "Our Flag Means Death" keeps things action-packed while also remembering that most pirates were a bunch...

Our Flag Means Death creator David Jenkins previewed where the show's central romance will go in Season 2.
The show's first season climaxed with Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and Ed "Blackbeard" Teach (Taika Waititi) confessing their feelings for each other, only to split apart due to Stede's insecurity. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jenkins discussed where the second season finds the star-crossed pirates. "It's interesting to see Stede have to figure out how to reapproach this guy that he really hurt," he explained. "That's everybody who's ever been in a relationship where they had to repair it and apologize to their partner and try to figure out a way forward. And then [we'll] see what happened to Blackbeard in the wake of his heartbreak." Jenkins added, "They're both pretty immature in their own way. I smell love on the salty sea air alongside gunpowder, rum, and wedding cake icing! The Our Flag Means Death Season 2 teaser trailer sets sail this afternoon, with members of The Revenge charting a course for adventure on the high seas! Many of your favorite characters return from the original season with several new faces ready to smile a black-toothed grin for the cameras.
The new season of Our Flag Means Death begins with gentleman pirate Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and softhearted bad boy Blackbeard (Taika Waititi) ruefully separated after finally realizing their love for each other at the end of season one. Max has released the first Our Flag Means Death season two teaser trailer, and all I can say is it’s about damned time there’s some official news on the upcoming season.
Ofmd has an incredibly passionate fan base, and they’ve kept the series in the spotlight on Twitter since season one wrapped up on March 24, 2022. After announcing season two way back in June 2022 and keeping fans anxiously awaiting more of Stede Bonnet and Blackbeard, Max has now confirmed the second season will premiere on October 5, 2023 with the release of the first three episodes.
Two new episodes of the eight-episode season will arrive on Thursdays, with the season finale set for October 26.
Season two stars Rhys Darby as Stede Bonnet, Taiki Waititi as Captain Blackbeard, Samson Kayo as Oluwande, Vico Ortiz as Jim, Ewen Bremner as Buttons, Joel Fry as Frenchie, Matthew Maher as Black Pete, Kristian Nairn as Wee John Feeney,...

I've never been on a boat long enough to develop cabin fever. Still, I imagine it feels a little like having to wait several months for Warner Bros. Discovery to finally renew its surprise-hit queer pirate comedy series "Our Flag Means Death", and then having to wait another 14 months for hard evidence that season 2 is actually a thing that exists.
Thankfully, we can leave the passive aggression to 18th-century aristocratic high society for now, and instead take joy in knowing "Our Flag Means Death" is not only coming back for more hijinks and romance on the high seas, it's coming back soon. Picking up where season 1 left things, this new season will continue the love story of everyone's favorite pirate dads, Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and Edward "Ed" Teach/Blackbeard (Taika Waititi), as they -- hopefully! -- find their way back to one another after a series of unfortunate events...

After nearly a year and a half of waiting, Max’s pirate rom-com “Our Flag Means Death” will return on Oct. 5.
The first teaser for this new installment picks up right where Season 1 left off. Though the newly-in-love Stede (Rhys Darby) and Blackbeard (Taika Waititi) planned to run away together, a hostile encounter kept Stede away from the man he loves. Stede’s holdup caused Blackbeard to believe he had been abandoned.
The teaser starts with Stede tossing a bottled message into the ocean as his voiceover reads, “Dear Ed, I love everything about you. I love being near you, breathing the same air.”
As Stede waxes poetic about his new love, Blackbeard angrily growls “F–k you, Stede Bonnet.” The rest of the teaser bounces between Stede reading his love letter and defending Blackbeard and his heartbroken lover generally causing havoc in any way he can.

Max is hoping you’ll bust out the peg leg this Halloween. “Our Flag Means Death,” the streamer’s popular pirate comedy series, will return for Season 2 in October, the streamer announced Wednesday. The season will premiere on October 5, and Max also released a teaser to accompany the date announcement.
Created and showrun by David Jenkins, “Our Flag Means Death” is (extremely) loosely based on the life of Stede Bonnet, a real-life English landowner in Barbados who had a brief and largely disastrous run as a pirate captain in 1717. The show turns Stede’s (played by Rhys Darby) journey to piracy into a sitcom, as the idealistic and inexperienced captain struggles to gain the respect of the crew of his ship, The Revenge. His fortunes look up when he teams up with Ed Teach (Taika Waititi) — better known as the infamous Blackbeard — and the too soon develop an unexpected friendship that turns into love.
