On Saturday, March 15, on a sunny afternoon, Disney’s “Snow White” finally had its big premiere at the Disney-owned El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. There was a brightly decorated pre-party with activities for kids. The stars of the movie, Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, who had weathered respective controversies, showed up and even took pictures together, sometimes with director Marc Webb sandwiched in-between them. Instead of actual press, Disney had Jodi Benson, the voice of Ariel in 1989’s animated classic “The Little Mermaid,” asking questions on behalf of D23, the company’s in-house fan club. A chubby bunny hopped down the red carpet.
The premiere felt like a joyful release, or maybe a guttural scream, depending on who you talk to, and served as the culmination of a nearly 10-year journey to get this gauzy remake of Walt Disney’s original animated classic back to the big screen. That near-decade had been besieged by controversy,...

It’s been a long road for Disney’s live-action iteration of Snow White starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot. From Covid delays to criticism regarding the fairy tale’s depiction of little people, racist fans taking issue with Zegler’s Latina heritage, and a premiere event that excluded journalists, the production was mired in problems virtually from the time it was announced in 2016. But finally, the film itself has arrived, set to be released in theaters on March 21.

Marc Maron is an incredibly funny man, but beneath that humor is an intensely relatable vulnerability. Any biography of him would need to strike this same balance to be effective. Although Are We Good? strives, like its subject, to be unabashedly authentic and unconventional, it only sometimes achieves these goals, all too often falling into a conventional rhythm.
Are We Good? Review
Are We Good? tells the story of Marc Maron, a stand-up comedian, actor, and leading podcaster who has gone through several speedbumps throughout his career but has come to be a beloved, revolutionary figure. The documentary, like Maron’s style of humor, is often bittersweet, with a strong through-line of hope even in the darkest moments.
The film primarily focuses on Maron’s bereavement in the aftermath of his partner, Lynn Shelton’s, death in 2020. It’s a very tragic story — and one that Maron has often discussed...

As hard as it might be to imagine, few family movies in recent years have come to theaters with as much online baggage as Snow White. The Disney live-action remake starring Gal Gadot and West Side Story breakout Rachel Zegler has been central to several controversies since Disney announced the project and its cast in 2021. Ahead is everything about the live-action Snow White and why it has become so fraught.
Racist backlash to Rachel Zegler
Disney was so bullish on Zegler that she landed the title role in Marc Webb’s film before the release of West Side Story. “Rachel’s extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts,” Webb said in June 2021. “Her strength, intelligence, and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairy tale.”
However, soon after Zegler’s casting was announced, the actress of Colombian and Polish descent...

Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White is set to hit theaters this week and the film is already embroiled in controversy.
Since the film’s inception, it has received hate for changes being made to the storyline, with many internet users claiming the story was being made “too woke.” In addition to criticism of the titular character’s design, many people took issue with the casting of Latin actress Rachel Zegler.

Zegler has endured a steady, unrelenting stream of criticism since she was cast as Snow White in 2022. In 2022’s D23 Expo, she became subject to more online criticism when she called the original animated movie “dated” and drew attention to the plotline in which Prince Charming “literally stalks” Snow White. ‘Are We Good?’ Review: An Intimate Peek Into the Life of Marc Maron Fails to Fully Crack Its Subject
Being a curmudgeon is part of his persona, but it’s not that difficult to find evidence of Marc Maron being vulnerable. Just listen to the introductions on his “Wtf” podcast, in which the standup veteran monologues about whatever’s on his mind that day. And sure, some listeners fast-forward through these parts to get to the interview. But if you want to get to know the “real Marc Maron,” he is willing to bare his soul — it just has to be on his own terms.
Some of the most revealing content in the SXSW doc “Are We Good?” comes from Maron’s podcast, including a heartbreaking snippet of audio in which he announces the death of his partner Lynn Shelton to his listeners. Director Steven Feinartz does get one disarming on-camera interview with Maron about Shelton’s death, which happened suddenly in May 2020 from “some blood disease nobody knew about,...

Bill Maher says that Donald Trump is right to try to abolish the Department of Education, but Marc Maron is ready to step up and give the smarmy centrist some schooling.
Despite describing himself as a “practical” liberal, the Real Time host has been comparatively warmer toward the second and significantly more reactionary Trump administration than he was toward the first Trump term. Shortly before Trump’s most recent inauguration, Maher claimed to have a “wait and see” approach to the president’s agenda, but the wait is over. According to Maher’s recent comments, Trump is a mixed bag, and the immediate crashing of the economy, the aggression toward our country’s closest allies, the annihilation of the federal workforce and the deliberate weakening of national security are all balanced out by Trump’s move to shutter numerous federal agencies whose responsibilities Maher doesn’t understand.

Comedian and actor Marc Maron is set to play a small but crucial role in Scott Cooper's upcoming Bruce Springsteen biopic, Deliver Me From Nowhere. He recently spoke to Collider's Steve Weintraub about the film at this year's SXSW film festival, where he's promoting his new documentary Are We Good? Maron discussed taking on the part in the film, which details the recording of Springsteen's seminal 1982 album, Nebraska:...

Toward the end of his 2023 HBO comedy special From Bleak to Dark, Marc Maron tells the audience a high-wire joke he’s been working on since his partner, the director Lynn Shelton, died in 2020 from a rare blood disease.
It starts with Maron on the way to the hospital to say goodbye to Shelton after a doctor arranges for the comedian to see her body. When Maron gets there, he takes his time saying goodbye. As he’s walking out of the ICU, he stops to consider a thought: “Selfie?” he asks himself. “No,” he finally decides. Most of the audience laughs immediately, but a few gasp before succumbing to their chuckles. It’s the kind of blunt and slightly scandalous humor Maron has built his career on, but it’s also textured with something rare for the comedian: a tender emotional awareness.
There are scenes of Maron workshopping this joke in Are We Good?...

“I should have been dead at the end of that!”
Those were comedian Marc Maron’s first words following the premiere of the feature documentary about him, “Are We Good?,” at the SXSW Film & TV Festival on Tuesday. The film, directed by Steven Feinartz, covers the full breadth of Maron’s career, from his start in the 1980s as a cocaine-fueled acolyte of stand-up Sam Kinison through the rapid success of his comedy podcast “Wtf.”
“I thought, it’s amazing this guy is still alive,” Maron joked as he took to the stage of the Zach Theater in Austin following the premiere. “Because usually that’s a movie about a guy that died already.”
Death was understandably on Maron’s mind: The majority of “Are We Good?” focuses on how he’s processed his grief after his girlfriend, filmmaker Lynn Shelton, died suddenly of an undiagnosed blood disease in May 2020. Picking up a year later,...

Disney’s “Snow White” event in Los Angeles on Saturday, a combination premiere and celebration of Marc Webb’s update of the 1937 masterpiece, was always meant to be a more modest event. While reports are highlighting the Saturday afternoon screening and pre-party, held at Disney’s El Capitan Theatre, as some kind of pivot, those with knowledge of the situation assure TheWrap that this was always the plan for the “Snow White” launch.
There are expected to be about 1,000 guests in attendance, including celebrities, filmmakers and press, even if the press won’t be on the movie’s red carpet. The scale and complexity of the premiere is in line with recent premieres like “Inside Out 2” (also held in Hollywood) and “Moana 2” (held in Hawaii).

In “Are We Good?” comedian and podcast pioneer Marc Maron works his way through life after the unexpected death of his partner, filmmaker Lynn Shelton.
The 95-minute documentary is directed by Steven Feinartz, who also directed the comedian’s 2023 HBO special “Marc Maron: From Bleak to Dark.” The doc captures Maron as he processes his grief on and off comedy stages. The film also chronicles Maron’s lengthy, complicated career, his struggle with addiction, his relationship with his declining father, and what the comedian is best known for – his podcast “Wtf With Marc Maron,” which launched in 2009.
Feinartz and Maron, who met 13 years ago during an episode of Wtf, started filming “Are We Good” in May 2021 – a year after Shelton died.

Brady Corbet is proving himself to be one of the most popular voices in independent cinema. His new film, The Brutalist, has earned praise from critics and recognition from the Academy. The period drama showing a Hungarian architect in post-war America establishes Corbet as someone who takes financial risks to explore big themes.
With a rare career journey from acting in Thirteen and Mysterious Skin to the very unique directing debut on The Childhood of a Leader, Corbet’s vision has allowed him to receive various prestigious awards, like the Silver Lion of the Venice International Film Festival and Best Director Award at the Golden Globes, for The Brutalist.

However, Corbet’s situation landed him in the headlines again and also raised some talks about his financial situation within the industry as he surprisingly stated that he got nothing out of The Brutalist.

Several years ago, Ethan Hawke said something interesting in an interview with Marc Maron. He admitted to having a lot of anxiety when he was cast in Training Day because he said that whenever he watched movies with Denzel Washington, he felt like his co-stars were blown out of the water by him. One exception that Hawke mentioned is Gene Hackman, who said the two played brilliantly off of each other in Tony Scott’s Crimson Tide, partly due to the fact that they were playing adversaries. Indeed, such was the power of Gene Hackman, who tragically passed away this week. Justin Kurzel’s new film The Order acts as a history lesson that remains as relevant as ever, at times too relevant, something that echoes today’s history before us. The film also acts as a sleek detective movie and a crisp action thriller, one the big screen has been missing.
The Order follows the true story of frightened communities throughout the Pacific Northwest America in 1983. Where a series of increasingly violent bank robberies, counterfeiting operations, and armoured car heists are tied to a group of dangerous white supremacists and domestic terrorists, inspired by a radical, charismatic leader (played by Nicholas Hoult). We’re less than a week away from the 97th annual Academy Awards, and host Conan O’Brien has been doing tons of promotion for the big day, conducting interviews and starring in at least one short film in which he’s trapped in a loveless marriage with a giant Oscar statuette.
In one behind-the-scenes video posted to the Oscars’ official YouTube account, O’Brien name-checked some of his all-time favorite hosts (Johnny Carson and Bob Hope) and noted that one of his earliest memories of the Academy Awards was the time a streaker ran across the stage in 1974, teeing up a dick joke from David Niven.
Conan was also asked if he could give “any movie in history that was overlooked” by the Academy an Oscar, which would it be? Instead of singling out, say, one of Stanley Kubrick’s masterpieces, he suggested that he would honor a 1960s comedy starring Barney Fife himself,...

It's been a while since we've seen Owen Wilson in a television series. Was Loki on Disney+ his last live-action role in a TV show? We believe so. Brady Corbet, the director of the acclaimed historical drama The Brutalist, says that he hasn't made any money from the film. The Brutalist earned critical acclaim in 2024 when it had a limited release across the world, and it became a major contender for the upcoming Academy Awards. When the nominations were finally announced last January, Corbet's film got 10 nods, including Best Picture and Best Director.
Per Variety, Corbet claims that he, as well as his creative partner Mona Fastvold, have made "zero dollars" from the film. The director appeared on the Marc Maron podcast "Wtf With Marc Maron," and he opened up about his complicated financial situation. He recently got a paycheck for some advertisements he worked on in Portugal and said, "This is the first time I’ve made any money in years." Corbet continued with the following:
"Both my partner and I made zero dollars on the last two films we made.

Exclusive: Before Oscar ballots were due Tuesday, The Brutalist director-writer-producer Brady Corbet sent a loud and clear message on Marc Maron’s Wtf podcast just how indie his 10-time Oscar-nominated movie The Brutalist was, declaring he made “zero dollars” on the nearly three-hour epic.
And not just “zero dollars” on The Brutalist, but also on his 2018 Natalie Portman-starring tortured pop star drama Vox Lux as well. Neon acquired U.S. on the 2018 pic, which grossed only $727,000 at the domestic box office and $1.4M worldwide.
As brutal as Corbet’s payday sounds, we figured some clarity was needed. Actors finding a connection with their fellow co-stars in real life has become more or less a common feat in Hollywood at this point, and Elizabeth Moss and Fred Armisen were yet another addition to that long list. But, like many others, their love affair couldn’t last long as the pair separated within less than a year, after only 8 months together.

Like most others, they were convinced what they had was true love too, but their harsh realization came to them a bit too soon, and what proved to be a “traumatic” marriage for Moss finally came to an end. But the surprising part in all of this was the fact that the actress’ life-changing role in Mad Men oddly played a role in the end of her marriage with Armisen.

Brady Corbet is a director who knows how to stretch a dollar. His Oscar-nominated film, The Brutalist, is a 3-and-a-half-hour drama shot on 70mm and it was made for under $10 million. One of Corbet’s strategic advantages to make such a film with a small budget was to use the benefits of tax credits when shooting the American immigrant tale in a location like Hungary. Corbet explained, “We were shooting in a country where things would cost what they really should cost. Hungary is not that cheap where we shot. It’s cheaper than New York City where we spent $1M in transpo on the last movie.”
Deadline is reporting that despite the attention his film is getting, Corbet hasn’t exactly turned any kind of profit from the A24 drama. Corbet revealed on the Wtf Podcast with Marc Maron that it would actually turn out to be a number...

Filmmaking isn’t always a lucrative or luxurious venture; making sacrifices to accomplish a vision on a budget can take a toll on a person. Podcaster Marc Maron recently spoke with Best Director nominee Brady Corbet of “The Brutalist” on his show “Wtf with Marc Maron,” revealing that, at least for him, that looking forward to spending more time with his family (daughter and wife) and creature comforts (nice hotels instead of sleeping on couches) are going to be more of a priority after his experiences making his last couple of movies.

“This is the first time I’ve made any money in years,” Corbet said, explaining that his first real paycheck in a long time came from directing three advertisements in Portugal. “Both my partner and I made zero dollars on the last two films we made. Yes, actually zero. So we had to just live off of a paycheck from three years ago and and obviously, the timing during an awards campaign and travel every two or three days was less than ideal, but it was an opportunity that landed in my lap, and I jumped at it.

Brady Corbet, director of the Oscar-nominated film The Brutalist, recently revealed that he has earned no income from his latest project. In an appearance on the Wtf with Marc Maron podcast, Corbet explained that he and his wife and creative partner, Mona Fastvold, have received no payment for both The Brutalist and their previous film, Vox Lux. To cover his expenses, the filmmaker turned to directing advertisements in Portugal—a venture he described as his first paid work in years.
Corbet detailed the financial challenges faced by independent filmmakers during the lengthy press circuit. “I just directed three advertisements in Portugal. It’s the first time that I had made any money in years,” he said, noting that he has been living off a paycheck from three years ago. The director lamented the constant demands of film promotion, which have kept him from taking on other projects, including writing jobs.
