The Casting Society (CSA) announced its 40th Annual Artios Awards winners in feature film, television (scripted and unscripted), short films, commercials, and theater on Wednesday, honoring Oscar top contenders and Best Picture nominees Wicked, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, and Emilia Pérez along with animated feature frontrunner The Wild Robot. My Old Ass and Janet Planet were also winners in the feature categories.

In addition to the film victors, television winners included Hacks, Shōgun, Slow Horses, Palm Royale, Baby Reindeer, RuPaul’s Drag Race, and Queer Eye, while the theater recipients spotlighted The Outsiders, Oh, Mary!, Stereophonic, and Here We Are.

Four Best Picture Oscar contenders won their categories at the Artios: “Wicked” (Big Budget Feature Comedy), “A Complete Unknown” (Big Budget Feature Drama), “Conclave” (Studio or Independent Feature Drama) and “Emilia Pérez”. Best Animated Feature Oscar frontrunner “The Wild Robot” picked up another trophy for its haul, while two smaller films, “My Old Ass” and “Janet Planet,” were recognized as well.

Netflix led the nominations for the Artios Awards, which were announced by the Casting Society (CSA) on Friday. Now in its 40th year, the awards honor achievements of casting professionals across 22 categories, mainly devoted to TV and streaming.

“Ripley,” “Baby Reindeer” and “The Crown” were among Netflix’s 17 nominations, more than doubling its haul of eight nods in 2023. The streamer’s 2024 total is nearly triple the number of second place finisher HBO/Max (with 6 nominations). Prime Video, Apple TV+ and FX each received 5.

In the TV category, Netflix and HBO/HBO Max tied with 11 nods. Netflix’s series include “Inventing Anna,” “Maid” and “Ozark,” while HBO and HBO Max were recognized for “Succession,” “Euphoria,” “The Gilded Age,” and more. The following streamers tied at five nominations each: Apple TV+ was nominated for shows like “Severance,” “Pachinko,” and “Ted Lasso.” Hulu got nods for “The Dropout,” “Dopesick” and others.

Broadway productions that received nominations include the revival of “Company,” “Mj the Musical,” “Music Man,” “Take Me Out,” and “Potus.” Films that did not receive non-theatrical releases (such as “Deep Water” and “The Adam Project”) were also recognized. The Julia Hart directed, co-written with husband Jordan Horowitz, follows Stargirl’s (Grace VanderWaal) journey out of Mica into a bigger world of music, dreams and possibility. The script is based on the original character from Jerry Spinelli’s best-selling book of the same name. VanderWaal will write and perform new original music for the sequel. Elijah Richardson plays Evan, the romantic lead opposite VanderWaal.

Hirsch will play Mr. Mitchell, one of Stargirl’s new neighbors while Williams will play Terrell, Evan’s older brother and an aspiring filmmaker. They join Judy Greer, who we first told you plays Ana, Stargirl’s mom; and Uma Thurman who will portray Roxanne Martel, a musician Stargirl admires and encounters on her journey.

The first time IndieWire spoke to Daniel Radcliffe and Simon Rich about the new TBS comedy “Miracle Workers,” it was January 2018, and they were early into production — and the early days of doing publicity for the show.

In addition to the seven film categories listed below, the Atrios Awards will honor Laura Dern with the Lynn Stalmaster Award for Career Achievement while Tina Fey and Jeff Raymond will receive the Marion Dougherty New York Apple Award and casting directors Robert J. Ulrich, Eric Dawson and Carol Kritzer will be feted with the Hoyt Bowers Award.

The Casting Society of America has released the feature film nominees and hosts for the 34th annual Artios Awards, being held Jan. 31 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The husband and wife team of June Diane Raphael and Paul Scheer will host the event.

Scheer is the co-creator of Adult Swim’s comedy action parody series, Ntsf:ds:suv, which co-stars his wife. Together they co-host the popular film podcast, Why Did This Get Made?

This year’s honorees include actress Laura Dern (who will receive the Lynn Stalmaster award) and from the New York ceremony, Tina Fey and Jeff Raymond (who will receive the Marion Dougherty New York Apple Award).

Casting directors Mike Fenton, Joe Reich and Al Onorato will receive the Hoyt Bowers Award for outstanding contribution to the casting profession.

Taking place in a world where puppets and humans live together, the film will feature a grisly murder mystery that must be solved by a pair of detectives, one human and one puppet. STXfilms is teaming with Melissa McCarthy for the raunchy R-rated puppet movie The Happytime Murders, which Brian Henson will direct in conjunction with Jim Henson Company’s Henson Alternative banner.

The comedy is set in the underbelly of Los Angeles where puppets and humans co-exist. Two clashing detectives, one human (McCarthy) and one puppet, are forced to work together to figure out who is brutally murdering the former cast of The Happytime Gang, a beloved classic puppet show. A year ago, Jamie Foxx was in talks to star in Happytime Murders, but that did not solidify.

The Casting Society of America has announced the nominees in its feature film categories for the 32d annual Artios Awards, which honor outstanding achievement in casting. “Arrival,” “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” “Hidden Figures,” “Nocturnal Animals” and “The Girl on the Train” all picked up nods in the big-budget drama category, with “Captain Fantastic,” “Jackie,” “Lion,” “Loving” and “Manchester by the Sea” doing likewise in the studio or independent drama field.

"Star Wars The Force Awakens" debuts in theaters in a few weeks, but Disney is already hard at work casting a young Hal Solo for their 2018 Solo prequel spinoff film. When Disney first announced they would be releasing one "Star Wars" film per year until 2020, fans wondered exactly what that would entail. Earlier this year the studio shared their plans, which included "Episode VII", "Episode VIII", "Episode IX", and three spinoff prequels that focused on the stolen death star plans in "Rogue One", Han Solo, and Boba Fett.  While the Han Solo prequel spinoff doesn't have a title yet, it does have a production team, which includes screenwriters Lawrence and Jon Kasdan and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The Hollywood Reporter announced today that, according to their sources, Lord and Miller's casting director, Jeanne McCarthy ("American Crime Story", "The Mindy Project", "21 Jump Street"), has seen over 2,500 actors to play the young Han Solo.

Disney have launched what is probably the biggest ever search for a single role in the history of Hollywood; the coveted lead of a young Han Solo in their planned Star Wars Anthology film.

The Hollywood Reporter have revealed that at least 2,500 actors are currently auditioning, either via tape or in person.

You can bet that with that number, every eligible, successful young actor (and some who aren’t) in the business is having a pop. The list of confirmed actors to be throwing their hat into the ring include Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Logan Lerman, Jack Reynor, Max Thieriot, Miles Teller, Nick Robinson, Tom Felton(!?) and even Mr. Robot’s Rami Malek.

The studio put out one of the biggest casting searches ever for the part, and according to THR, 2,500 actors have auditioned for the project so far. They've either met with casting directors or have sent in audition tapes to try and nab one of the most coveted movie roles ever.
