[Editor’s note: This article contains spoilers for “Hacks” Season 1.]
There’s something invigorating about talking to the creators of a new, delightful TV series, so it should come as no surprise that talking with Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky, creators of HBO Max’s “Hacks” was a joy unto itself.
It’s also unsurprising that the trio were thrilled to discuss the series, their stars, and what the show looks like after the Season 1 finale set its dynamic duo on an assuredly fraught new path.
Centered around Deborah Vance (a never better Jean Smart) and Ava Daniels (dynamic upstart Hannah Einbinder), “Hacks” is a marvel from the first. Deborah is a slightly long-in -the-tooth stand-up comedian, whose career was not what it could have been thanks to systemic injustices. She nevertheless became the comedy queen of Las Vegas. Ava is a Gen Z comedy upstart, who found her meteoric rise derailed by a few...

The first time IndieWire spoke to Daniel Radcliffe and Simon Rich about the new TBS comedy “Miracle Workers,” it was January 2018, and they were early into production — and the early days of doing publicity for the show.
“This is all unspoiled territory,” the globally famous star of the “Harry Potter” series said.
“It’s like our first hour of press,” Rich added.
“You can’t describe your character differently every time,” Radcliffe continued. “I have to come up with something fairly quickly soon.”
The origins of the TBS comedy, which imagines a version of Heaven run like a too-recognizable corporate entity, came after Radcliffe read “What in God’s Name,” the novel which inspired the series. His girlfriend, a huge fan of Rich’s writing, had given him a copy — it was actually the second of Rich’s books that she had given Radcliffe.

The casting branch of the academy is only five years old and doesn’t have an Oscar category of its own. In Private Life, Kathryn Hahn and Paul Giamatti portray a middle-aged couple struggling with infertility. The film paints a funny but unflinching portrait of the efforts to have a child, from painful IVF injections, to anxious adoption interviews, to the humbling search for an egg donor. Throughout the journey, they remain a unit. With their on-screen chemistry fully intact in the mahogany and red-velvet environs of New York’s NoMad Hotel, Hahn and Giamatti greet each other with a long embrace. They immediately fall into a couple’s rhythm of completing one another’s sentences when talking about their collaboration with writer-director Tamara Jenkins.
What attracted you to this film?
Paul Giamatti: I have known Tamara for a long time, and we had tried to work on something before and that didn’t work out. I wanted to work with her. Clearly, someone else didn’t work out, so she came to me.

It seems like “The House with a Clock in its Walls” has plenty of room, as it continues to add principal cast members while getting ready to film in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to Cate Blanchett and Jack Black, Kyle MacLachlan and young actor Owen Vaccaro have recently been added to the project, which is being cast by Nicole Abellera and Jeanne McCarthy. After years in development, it looks like viewers will finally get to see a darkly comedic take on the world of puppets in The Happytime Murders. Taking place in a world where puppets and humans live together, the film will feature a grisly murder mystery that must be solved by a pair of detectives, one human and one puppet. The movie is now finally moving forward with Melissa McCarthy set to star and produce, Brian Henson (son of the legendary Jim Henson) on board as the director, and filming expected to begin this August.

STXfilms is teaming with Melissa McCarthy for the raunchy R-rated puppet movie The Happytime Murders, which Brian Henson will direct in conjunction with Jim Henson Company’s Henson Alternative banner.
STXfilms Chairman Adam Fogelson and President of Production Sam Brown made the announcement today.
The comedy is set in the underbelly of Los Angeles where puppets and humans co-exist. Two clashing detectives, one human (McCarthy) and one puppet, are forced to work together to figure out who is brutally murdering the former cast of The Happytime Gang, a beloved classic puppet show. A year ago, Jamie Foxx was in talks to star in Happytime Murders, but that did not solidify.

Most Star Wars fans have dreamed of one day getting to pilot the Millennium Falcon or perhaps getting to take a trip to the Mos Eisley Cantina. Even though they aren't real, there is always the dream of at least appearing in a Star Wars movie. Well, today is (maybe) your lucky day, because Disney and Lucasfilm are holding a casting call for the upcoming Young Han Solo movie.
Omega Underground has uncovered the casting call for Han Solo: A Star Wars Story, which has the working title of Red Cup. Clearly a reference to the Red Solo Cups. Clever. The important thing is, the movie is currently casting extras and anyone, even you reading this right now, can try out to be in the movie. Here is what Disney and Lucasfilm had to say in the casting call.

Casting directors have a strange distinction in the awards world: Their guild has an Academy branch, but it’s the only one without its own Oscar category. Imagine for a moment that they did. What are the best-cast films of 2016?
IndieWire asked 13 of the top casting directors to nominate films worthy of casting recognition this year. There were a few restrictions worth noting. Although casting directors often get early sneak peeks at films, many noted there are some films they still hadn’t seen. In particular, many are anxious to find out what legendary casting director Ellen Lewis has cooked up for Martin Scorsese’s “Silence.” The other restriction, which was imposed as responses came in: They couldn’t all write about “Moonlight.” (We’ll dig further into the casting of that film in another article.)

MTV’s Josh Horowitz sat down with “Now You See Me 2” star Dave Franco at CinemaCon and asked the young actor about the audition process for the new “Han Solo” movie that Phil Lord and Chris Miller are directing for Disney and Lucasfilm. Last week, reports emerged that Alden Ehrenreich (“Hail, Caesar!”) was the frontrunner for the coveted role, so perhaps that’s why Franco decided to let his guard down and discuss it. “It’s like most other auditions,” Franco said with a laugh. “I went in one time for Jeanne McCarthy, who I’ve auditioned for a million times before,...

May the force be with male actors under 35 this year. While superfans pitch their tents outside the local cinema for the premiere of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Walt Disney Pictures is already counting the ways to spin its billion-dollar acquisition. Han Solo, the wisecracking captain of the Millennium Falcon—made famous by Harrison Ford—is getting a new face for the feature. The project, currently going by the code name “Red Cup” (a wink to the plastic cup–maker that shares the character’s surname), has directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller attached. Casting director Jeanne McCarthy is tasked with recasting the iconic role for what looks to be a prequel to the first film, “A New Hope.” Despite casting being well underway, production isn’t slated to begin until January 2017. Space may be seeing its second heyday. In a market saturated with comic book heroes, a few studios...

"Star Wars The Force Awakens" debuts in theaters in a few weeks, but Disney is already hard at work casting a young Hal Solo for their 2018 Solo prequel spinoff film. When Disney first announced they would be releasing one "Star Wars" film per year until 2020, fans wondered exactly what that would entail. Earlier this year the studio shared their plans, which included "Episode VII", "Episode VIII", "Episode IX", and three spinoff prequels that focused on the stolen death star plans in "Rogue One", Han Solo, and Boba Fett. While the Han Solo prequel spinoff doesn't have a title yet, it does have a production team, which includes screenwriters Lawrence and Jon Kasdan and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The Hollywood Reporter announced today that, according to their sources, Lord and Miller's casting director, Jeanne McCarthy ("American Crime Story", "The Mindy Project", "21 Jump Street"), has seen over 2,500 actors to play the young Han Solo.

Disney have launched what is probably the biggest ever search for a single role in the history of Hollywood; the coveted lead of a young Han Solo in their planned Star Wars Anthology film.
The Hollywood Reporter have revealed that at least 2,500 actors are currently auditioning, either via tape or in person.
You can bet that with that number, every eligible, successful young actor (and some who aren’t) in the business is having a pop. The list of confirmed actors to be throwing their hat into the ring include Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Logan Lerman, Jack Reynor, Max Thieriot, Miles Teller, Nick Robinson, Tom Felton(!?) and even Mr. Robot’s Rami Malek.
Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are working with their 21 Jump Street casting director Jeanne McCarthy to find an ideal candidate, and as far as I’m concerned, I hope that The Age of Adaline...

While fans eagerly await the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in just 16 days, the rest of the Star Wars universe is starting to take shape. The first spinoff Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (December 16, 2016) and Star Wars: Episode VIII (May 26, 2017) are both currently in production. Today we have word from Heat Vision Blog that casting is already under way for Disney and LucasFilm's next adventure, the Star Wars Anthology: Han Solo Movie, which is set for release on May 25, 2018. THR reports that over 2,500 actors have auditioned for Han Solo for the Star Wars spinoff in what has reportedly become one of the largest casting searches ever. So who has read for the part? Among the thousands of names, there are a number of famous faces, including The Fault in Our Stars' Ansel Elgort, The Walking Dead's Chandler Riggs, Mr. Robot dreamboat Rami Malek, The...
