- Actor-musician Aalok Mehta was born in Edison, NJ and raised in Cherry Hill, NJ for the majority of his childhood. He speaks Gujarati, conversational Hindi. In high school he was a first team all-state tennis player. He went on to play tennis in college. Aalok began his career as a musician performing in bands as a lead singer/songwriter. He also studied Indian Classical Music on Sitar with Pandit Nayan Ghosh at the renowned Sangit Mahabharati in Mumbai, India. His debut film, which he scored and starred in as the lead, American Chai, was the recipient of the Slamdance and GenArt Film Festival Audience Awards. He then created the role of Salim in the Original Broadway Cast of Lord Andrew Lloyd Weber and AR Rahman's Bombay Dreams. He's been blessed to work for 2.5 decades as an interdisciplinary artist in different mediums from Film, TV, Theatre, and voice-over, to composition, sound design, and producing. He's acted on many shows such as Law & Order SVU, Bones, The New Adventures of Old Christine, recurring on Joey, NCIS LA, Happy Endings, 30 Rock, Rules of Engagement and he is currently a series regular on the international hit, critically acclaimed Amazon series, The Chosen, playing the role of Barnaby.
