If you're a fan of Mindy Kaling and are a Netflix subscriber, there's a bit of good and bad news for you going into the end of February 2025. No, her modern classic teen comedy Never Have I Ever isn't going anywhere (thankfully), but the star's eponymous sitcom The Mindy Project will be departing Netflix by the end of the month. Grab a bear claw and lie on the floor in distress!
As a comedy series that originally aired on Fox, then moved to Hulu as an original when the streamer saved it from cancellation, and was produced by NBCUniversal, it was surprising when the underrated workplace rom-com landed on Netflix back in January 2023. It was a pleasant surprise nonetheless as lots of new viewers had the chance to discover the series.

Mindy Kaling’s new comedy show, “Not Suitable for Work,” has officially been greenlit at Hulu.
The half-hour, single-camera comedy series, which was previously titled “Murray Hill,” has received a series order at the streamer, Hulu announced Tuesday. The order came about 10 months after the show landed at Hulu following a competitive bidding process.
“Not Suitable for Work” follows five work-obsessed 20somethings striving for professional success and, if they have time, personal happiness in Manhattan’s most glamorous neighborhood, Murray Hill, according to the official logline.
Kaling created the series, and Charlie Grandy is set to serve as showrunner. Kaling and Grandy will executive produce alongside Howard Klein, who executive produces for 3 Arts Entertainment.
“Not Suitable for Work” is produced by Warner Bros. Television, where both Kaling and Grandy are under overall deals.

When "The Office" star Mindy Kaling created her own show, "The Mindy Project," she set out to redefine the kinds of roles women were allowed to play in sitcoms. "I really fell in love with the format where the main character was very flawed," she told Variety years later. "It was something you had seen countless times on sitcoms with men, but you hadn't seen with women. And I was so excited to play that part in a bigger capacity than I had."
To accomplish that goal, she invented Dr. Mindy Lahiri — a woman who desperately wants to be in love, at the expense of just about every other facet of her life. Still, she's a great doctor, a good coworker, and eventually, a great mom. Mindy's adventures won the show legions of fans -- even as it moved from network television to Hulu -- and viewers fell in love with the show's quirky,...

A new movie produced by Live Nation Productions and starring two alums from The Officewill feature a plot inspired by alternative rock/punk powerhouse Green Day. Per Variety, the film, titled New Years Rev, is a comedic coming-of-age story of three friends who travel to Los Angeles and believe (mistakenly) that their band is opening for the legendary Green Day on New Year’s Eve (so no worries about waking up Billie Joe Armstrong before September ends).

A decade or so ago, a new movie by a major director like Clint Eastwood would have been cause for excitement. But in Hollywood's current franchise-heavy, post-pandemic era, Juror #2, Eastwood's most recent and possibly final film, barely made a splash. The film's distributor, Warner Bros. Discovery, released it on fewer than 50 screens across America before dropping it on Max in early December, giving it such a limited theatrical release that Wbd considered not releasing the box office figures at all.
All this would suggest that Wbd lost faith in the film, or that it turned out to be an embarrassment that they wanted to bury on streaming. On the contrary, Juror #2 has been widely praised by critics and audiences, earning a 92% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and gaining some word-of-mouth momentum on Max. As of this writing, it's the number one movie on the platform, and has been for some time.

The voting period for Oscar nominees this year has ended and there might be a surprise for Clint Eastwood fans. While his latest and potentially last film, Juror No. 2, did not make it to anyone’s top 5 prediction list, Academy voters show more interest in the film. The film explores the moral dilemma of a juror when he finds out that he could’ve accidentally killed the victim in the case.

In 2024, Clint Eastwood delivered what turned out to be somewhat of a sleeper hit with a film that could — and arguably should — have been a much bigger deal. Courtroom drama "Juror #2" is vintage Eastwood, proving the legendary star and director still has it at the age of 94. The icon's 42nd (and likely final) movie is an intense thriller that keeps viewers engaged with its story of a man serving jury duty on a case in which he might very well be the real culprit. But it's also an examination of the U.S. justice system and the very concept of justice itself.
Eastwood turned down directing one of 2024's most controversial movies to helm "Juror #2," which investigates where truth, morality, and justice overlap. More specifically, it asks whether these are indeed separate constructs, or whether — especially in the case of truth and justice — they are expressions of the same fundamental ideas.

With 2024 over, the year was chock-full of financially successful blockbusters and critically acclaimed dramas that are destined to take over the award season. Those movies defined what 2024 was and will be remembered long after. However, when most people were paying attention to the sure-fire hits, several films didn't get the appreciation they deserved.
There are a few loyal people who spread the word about these specific movies, but it wasn't enough to get them out of the status of being overlooked. Despite being generally well-received, these 2024 films couldn't reach a wide enough audience and didn't make the grandest splash at the box office or on streaming. From Netflix originals like Rebel Ridge and His Three Daughters to well-cast dramas like The Bikeriders and Saturday Night, there were plenty of 2024 movies that people largely missed out on.

Clint Eastwood's 2024 movie with a 93% Rotten Tomatoes score, but was buried in theaters, has become a streaming success. Eastwood made his acting debut back in 1955, but broke through with a lead role in the Western series Rawhide and rose to fame in Sergio Leone's Dollars trilogy of spaghetti Westerns during the 1960s. Eastwood became known for much more than Westerns during the 1970s and 1980s, starring as the antihero cop Harry Callahan in five Dirty Harry movies and playing against type in the comedies Every Which Way But Loose and Any Which Way You Can.
In addition to his iconic onscreen roles, Eastwood is just as famous as a filmmaker, making his directorial debut in 1971 with the indie film, Play Misty For Me. Over the years, while a two-time Oscar nominee for acting, Eastwood won Best Director for his 1992 Western Unforgiven and his 2004 boxing drama Million Dollar Baby,...

Juror #2 was released on Nov. 1 in a very limited number of theaters. Despite its limited release, it performed well, with a per-screen average of about $7,500 in about 35 theaters during its three-day opening weekend. It would go on to be released in about 50 theaters across the United States.
The film stars Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette, J.K. Simmons, Zoey Deutch, and Kiefer Sutherland. Hoult plays a juror named Justin Kemp, who is struggling with a serious moral dilemma while sitting on the jury for a high-profile murder case.

In the era of streaming, the lines have continued to blur between movies and TV shows, meaning that some shows feel like they would be much better as movies. There used to be a clear delineation between the two media, but TV trends have dictated that shows should have higher production values, fewer serialized stories and more varied directorial choices. All of these elements are inherently cinematic.
When a new trailer drops on social media, it's sometimes unclear whether the project being sold is a movie or a TV show. This highlights how the two art forms have continued to merge and overlap. Miniseries are even more cinematic than most other TV shows, and many big hits would be even better if they had made a few more cuts to the story and been envisioned as movies instead.

Warning: Spoilers for Juror #2.
Directed by Clint Eastwood, Juror #2 is a legal thriller that follows Justin Kemp (Nicholas Hoult), a seemingly innocuous guy with a pregnant wife who’s called for jury duty one day. Selected as the second juror in a local murder case, Justin isn’t excited about fulfilling his civic duty. To make matters worse, once the trial begins, he realizes he might have a direct connection to the events surrounding the homicide. Seemingly a heartbreaking case of domestic abuse, James Syth (Gabriel Basso) is accused of beating his girlfriend, Kendall Carter (Francesca Eastwood), and throwing her body over a bridge. However, he claims he never committed such a crime. Unfortunately, with his criminal history and weak defense, the jury doesn’t believe him, except for Justin.
It turns out Justin was at the same bar James and Kendall were at on the night she died. After...

Juror #2 can finally be streamed at home after its very limited theatrical release. Juror #2 is the latest and possibly final movie directed by Clint Eastwood, and currently has an impressive score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes (via Rotten Tomatoes). The story of Juror #2 follows Justin, who is on the jury of a high-profile murder case but quickly begins to think that he was actually the one who committed the murder. The cast of Juror #2 includes Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette, J.K. Simmons, Zoey Deutch, and Chris Messina.
Throughout Juror #2, Justin becomes increasingly convinced that he accidently murdered the victim. However, he is also about to be a father. This presents him (and the audience) with a complex moral dilemma that has led to a slew of positive reviews for Juror #2. In addition to the movie's intriguing premise, Juror #2 could also be Eastwood's last movie. While it has not been officially...

With a directorial career spanning over 50 years, and an acting career that goes back another 20, Clint Eastwood is a certified Hollywood legend. From his appearances as the Man With No Name in the Dollars trilogy, to his later post-modernist Westerns like Unforgiven, and his directorial efforts, American Sniper, Invictus, and Million Dollar Baby to name a few, Eastwood's filmography is nothing short of legendary. Despite this, his final film as a director, Juror #2, was buried at theaters, being pulled early from its (very) limited theatrical release. Thankfully, the movie has a new home on streaming, and it's finally getting the recognition it deserves.
Juror #2 is reportedly Eastwood's final movie as a director. Based on an original script by Jonathan A. Abrams, the film features a star-studded cast, including Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette, J.K. Simmons, Kiefer Sutherland, Cedric Yarbrough, Zoey Deutch, and many more. Hoult stars as Justin Kemp, who...

Clint Eastwood is one of the most well-known actor/directors still working today. Over his 60+-year career, Eastwood has been both behind and in front of the camera in dozens of films. What's even more impressive is that he continues to put out films even well into his 90s. Eastwood's latest flick, Juror #2, was released in October 2024 to positive critical reviews but less-than-ideal box office returns. To be fair, the movie had an extremely limited (as in less than 50 theaters) release.
This strategy seems unusual for a filmmaker of Eastwood's caliber, especially when you consider that Juror #2 may be the Western star's final directorial outing. Nothing's been confirmed yet, but Eastwood is 94 years old. Time's not exactly on his side. Couple that with lengthy Hollywood production timelines, and it's entirely possible that Eastwood is hanging up his cowboy hat after this.
After its disappointing theatrical run, Juror #2 is available to stream on Max.

The 44th film, “Juror #2” (2024) from director Clint Eastwood is a morality tale covered in the garb of a legal drama, exhibiting many of Eastwood’s classicism without any of the staid tendencies that could be expected from a nonagenarian director. This is a much-needed callback to adult mid-budget dramas that Eastwood’s entire filmography boasts of.

Amy Adams explains what real-life cooking skills she learned on the set of Julie & Julia. Adams played the titular Julie Powell in the film, a blogger who works to emulate Julia Child's cooking. As it turns out, sending what could be Clint Eastwood's last directorial effort straight to streaming after a nearly non-existent theatrical release isn't the best way to bury a film. The legendary actor and director has proven that his name still carries a certain weight to it, as his latest film, Juror #2, has reached the top of the iTunes rental charts since its digital release last week. The film's synopsis describes it as a story about "a juror for a high-profile murder trial [who] finds himself struggling with a serious moral dilemma that could influence the verdict and potentially convict, or free, the accused killer."
Juror #2 isn't just at the top of the iTunes movie rental chart either— the film has maintained the top spot on the Fandango at Home VOD service (formerly Vudu) since its debut last week, signifying that at-home audiences are more than interested in seeing Eastwood's latest film.

You can soon enjoy Clint Eastwood’s Juror #2 from home as the legal drama heads to digital and Blu-ray. Details below.
We’ve been scratching our collective head here at Film Stories over the past month, wondering what’s going on at Warner Bros. The studio has all but buried Clint Eastwood’s latest feature, Juror #2. The film enjoyed only a week in cinemas over the pond despite strong reviews from critics.
Over here, Juror #2 has been in cinemas for just about a month, but Warner Bros. has now announced that you can watch Eastwood’s movie digitally from 2nd December. If digital is not your thing, a Blu-ray release is following on 13th December.
You can pre-order it via this link if you so wish.
It doesn’t seem that Juror #2 will be available on DVD or 4K Ultra HD. Disappointingly, the Blu-ray won’t include any extras either,...

Based on a True Story season 2 arrived on Peacock in 2024, and the dark comedy thriller's sophomore outing was yet another smash-hit for the streamer. Based on the massive popularity of content about true crimes and serial killers, the show concerns Ava (Cuoco) and Nathan (Messina), a couple who discover the identity of the West Side Ripper. Instead of alerting the police, the couple proposes a scheme for the killer to collaborate on their podcast if he agrees to stop killing.
The first season ends with Nathan and Avas true crime empire being destroyed online by criticism of the couple giving a serial killer a platform, leading the West Side Ripper to take the content creation into his own hands. With Nathan and Ava being too far into their own mess to find a clean way out, the thrilling TV show streaming on Peacock left off with high anticipation for Based on a True Story...

Based on a True Story season 2 ends with a massive betrayal and tantalizing cliffhangers that set up a potential season 3. This proves to be challenging when the West Side Ripper serial killer, Matt Pierce (Tom Bateman), gets engaged to Ava's sister, Tory Thompson (Liana Liberato).
Meanwhile, a new string of murders has begun at the hands of a West Side Ripper copycat killer. Based on a True Story's characters work to discover the copycat killer's identity before it is too late. Did “Based on a True Story” need a second season? Arguably no, but credit where credit is due: Season 2 the Peacock series — now led by Annie Weisman — is significantly more confident, entertaining, and batshit (respectfully) than the first, so when the inevitable cliffhanger rolls around, it actually feels earned.
Season 2, Episode 8, “This Week’s Guest” starts with Ava (Kaley Cuoco) and Nathan (Chris Messina) held hostage at a podcast studio by the as-yet-unidentified Copycat Killer. This is a show with so few characters that I was genuinely stumped as to the murderer’s identity, and thrilled by the reveal that its Chloe Lake’s (Natalia Dyer) sister (Sarah Paxton) — whose sister was killed by Matt (Tom Bateman), the West Side Ripper.
It’s a turn very much of a piece with the rest of the season, which smartly pulls away from Ava, Nathan, and Matt’s hit podcast and its dubious ethics.
