“You want Jimmy to get to the point where he would leave it all behind for Alice, including his therapy practice and all that,” Segel told The Hollywood Reporter when season two concluded. “I think that’s what makes it the primary relationship.

Shrinking star Christa Miller has shared a brand-new production update for the upcoming third season of the acclaimed Apple TV+ comedy-drama. Besides starring as a series regular since Season 1, Miller also serves as the show’s music supervisor.
In a video posted on Instagram, Miller confirmed that the cast and crew of Shrinking will soon begin filming the third installment in Los Angeles, despite the recent Eaton wildfire that affected Altadena, which was one of the main shooting locations of the show. According to Miller, the creative team decided to continue filming in Pasadena and Altadena in order to show their support to the communities affected by the devastating fire. "Next week we start shooting Season 3 of Shrinking in Los Angeles, in the heart of Pasadena, and it’s a really special moment for our cast and crew because not only do we shoot in Pasadena, we film in Altadena as well,...

Shrinking star and music supervisor Christa Miller revealed that Shrinking Season 3 will start production next week in Pasadena and Altadena, where it has always shot, and she stressed the importance of keeping that location after the Eaton wildfire that devastated Altadena last month.
“Next week we start shooting Season 3 of Shrinking in Los Angeles, in the heart of Pasadena, and it’s a really special moment for our cast and crew because not only do we shoot in Pasadena, we film in Altadena as well,” she began in a video posted to Instagram. “After the devastating fires that hit Los Angeles, it feels more important than ever to support all the communities that have been affected.”
Both the Eaton fire, which broke out in Altadena, and the Palisades fire, which leveled many homes in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Malibu, were 100% contained Saturday after blazing for nearly a month on opposite ends of Los Angeles.

The Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso premiered in 2020 and aired for three seasons to critical acclaim. The show drew viewers in with exceptional performances, outrageous humor, uplifting tone, and more. Comedy fans are always searching for another intelligent comedy to keep them entertained. Ted Lasso set the bar fairly high, but the list below will certainly give fans some new series to keep them entertained.
Lessons in Chemistry
This is a period drama with some comedy sprinkled in, but it is an exceptionally underappreciated series from Apple TV+. Before his Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated turn as therapist Jimmy Laird on Apple TV+’s Shrinking, Jason Segel starred in 2009’s I Love You, Man, alongside Paul Rudd. The movie, which boasts a “Certified Fresh” 82% on Rotten Tomatoes, will be available to stream on Peacock starting Feb. 1.
The movie follows Peter Klaven, an L.A. real estate agent who proposes to his girlfriend Zooey, played by Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation), and suddenly realizes he doesn’t have any close friends to fill the role of his best man at his upcoming wedding. After a failed attempt at recruiting Zooey’s best friend’s husband (played by Jon Favreau), Peter meets investor Sydney Fife, played by Segel, at an open house where Peter’s showing Lou Ferrigno’s mansion.

Season 2 of Shrinking delivered gut punch after emotional gut punch. It was also full of witty banter, poignant witticisms, and moments that made us think. One character rose to the top through it all: Derek, played by Ted McGinley. Derek's wife, Liz, and the couple have a unique relationship. Derek is patient, laid-back, and supportive, while Liz is intense, shrewd, and not to be messed with. They're a perfect match. The same is true for his friendships, with Derek bringing calm to the general chaos at nearly every turn.
Shrinking is a departure for McGinley, who, before playing Derek, was known for roles like Jefferson D'Arcy on Married... with Children and Stan Gabel in Revenge of the Nerds. Perhaps not taken seriously for much of his earlier work, McGinley's increased screen time during the second season of Shrinking made it a better show. Shrinking co-creator and showrunner, Bill Lawrence, is the king of TV comedy at the moment. Between his work on the aforementioned Harrison Ford and Jason Segel-led AppleTV+ series' third season, the fourth of Ted Lasso, the reboot of Scrubs, and his forthcoming, Steve Carell-led comedy, the man is busy. (Putting it mildly.) So it's no wonder that he's weighing the possibility of ending Shrinking with its upcoming third season—but he's also not entirely sure if he's ready to be done with it, either.
In a new interview with the Los Angeles Times, Lawrence spoke candidly about weighing the options for Shrinking's future — particularly because it was initially pitched with a three-season-long story arc. When asked directly about whether he could "see the show going beyond that [initial three-season pitch]" or not, the showrunner said simply, "yes and no."

Shrinkingco-creator Bill Lawrence is dedicated to ensuring the show's depiction of Parkinson's Disease is authentic and uplifting. During an appearance at "An Evening with Shrinking at PaleyLive," Lawrence spoke with People about his and co-creator Brett Goldstein's connection to the illness: both of their fathers have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Lawrence also cited Michael J. Fox, his "first mentor," as inspiration for the show's depiction of the neurological disease. Lawrence said:
"It's cool to get to write about things you care about now, and Michael J Fox is my first mentor. So we wanted to represent it in hopefully an inspiring and not sad or tragic way."
He added:

Shrinking co-creator Bill Lawrence has opened up about the possibility of wrapping up the hit Apple TV+ comedy with its upcoming third installment. This comes after nearly a week since the show debuted its Season 2 finale.
During a recent interview with Los Angeles Times, Lawrence revealed the reason why Shrinking Season 3 would likely complete the story arc of Jason Segel’s character Jimmy Laird. The latter was introduced as a therapist who must deal with the grief of losing his beloved wife. "I think that this story is over in three seasons," Lawrence explained. "Because if we started the fourth season with Jason Segel going, 'I’m still so sad about my wife dying, and I really messed up with my daughter,' people would be like [contorts face into a look of agony]."

Apple TV+'s comedy drama Shrinking has just wrapped Season 2. The Jason Segel and Harrison Ford-led show received critical acclaim and has already been renewed for a new season.
In an interview with People, co-creator Bill Lawrence explained that the show drew inspiration from Michael J. Fox and his journey since his Parkinson's diagnosis. Fox had previously starred in the first show Lawrence created, Spin City, which ran between 1996 and 2002. The legendary actor publicly revealed his Parkinson's diagnosis during the show's run in 1998. The duo reunited on Lawrence's series Scrubs, where Fox played Dr. Kevin Casey in two episodes.

Nearly 15 years after its divisive conclusion, Scrubs is headed back to the small screen. A revival series has been teased by the show's cast for years, and it's finally in development. Details have been trickling in, and now we know more about what we can expect the show's premise to be. During a conversation with Collider, Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence revealed that the series will take place in the present time and won't pick up right after the original show's conclusion. That's a good thing, given the time that has lapsed and that the medical field was turned upside down by the Covid-19 pandemic.
"With the creative side, the show's not going to pick up a day later. It can't. I'm interested in where these characters are, that many years later. I always remember the finale of Scrubs, in Season 8, with J.D. saying he has a dream of how things would go and,...

Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Shrinking season 2.
Shrinking season 2 ends on a satisfying note, yet there is still a great deal left to explore in season 3. Jimmy (Jason Segel) continues to grieve the death of his wife, Tia (Lilan Bowden), in season 2, which becomes more complicated when Brett Goldstein's Shrinking character, Louis, is revealed to be the drunk driver involved in her fatal accident. By Shrinking season 2's ending, both Jimmy and Louis reach their lowest points, but they still find a way to reconcile and help each other.
While much of season 2's conflict revolves around Jimmy and Louis, the rest of Shrinking's cast of characters also have their fair share of challenges, and the cast expands with many familiar faces from other sitcoms. Paul's (Harrison Ford) Parkinson's disease symptoms become more severe, Liz (Christa Miller) finds her purpose, and Gaby (Jessica Williams) navigates a relationship...

[This story contains major spoilers from the Shrinking season two finale, “The Last Thanksgiving.“]
Shrinking co-creator Bill Lawrence has come a long way since thinking Brett Goldstein wasn’t the right actor to play the pivotal role of Louis in the Emmy-nominated show’s second season.
While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter at the start of season two, the showrunner explained that he saw Goldstein as Ted Lasso‘s Roy Kent and couldn’t picture him playing a more sensitive, sweet character, like Louis.
“This show would only work if you could have somebody that did awful things and yet still want it to work out for them anyway,” Lawrence said of the character. “So, I almost blew it. He would never be so forward as to ask, and Jason Segel made it happen.”
Now, looking back at the season as a whole, Lawrence doesn’t think it would have worked without the actor as Louis this season.

For those who are missing Ted Lasso, Shrinking is a viable replacement. Hailing from the same creator, Bill Lawrence, alongside Brett Goldstein, who played Roy Kent in Ted Lasso, Shrinking stars Jason Segel (who also co-created the series) as Jimmy Laird, a therapist trying his best to deal with the sudden loss of his wife. He finds a renewed lease on life when he discovers that unconventional methods are helping his patients. But that means he neglects the rules at times, which leads to reckless results.
The series has a beautiful mix of heart and humor, drama and comedy. The second season is arguably even better than the first, as the story continues in a meaningful way, leading to compelling arcs for all the supporting characters as well.

[This story contains spoilers from the Shrinking season two finale, “The Last Thanksgiving.”]
Jason Segel’s Jimmy saved a life in the Shrinking season two finale.
The final moments of season ender, titled “The Last Thanksgiving,” saw Brett Goldstein’s Louis literally steps from taking his life after being uninvited from Friendsgiving and overwhelmed by his grief following his drunken accident that killed Tia (Lilan Bowden), the late wife to Segel’s character, Jimmy. However, the latter steps in to save the man who killed his wife.
The finale picked up right after Jimmy’s penultimate episode breakdown in Paul’s (Harrison Ford) lap, finally allowing himself to feel the weight of the mistakes he made with his daughter Alice (Lukita Maxwell) following Tia’s death. Paul told Jimmy what he’s known all along, that his biggest hurdle with forgiveness isn’t with the man who killed his wife — Brett Goldstein’s Louis — but with...

Shrinking co-creator Bill Lawrence addresses the show's future, given that it was initially envisioned as a three-season run. As a display of confidence in one of its strongest originals, Apple TV+ renewed Shrinking season 3 before the second installment even premiered. But like Ted Lasso, which is also created by Lawrence, and also streams on Apple TV+, the Jason Segel and Harrison Ford-led therapy dramedy was conceived as a story that consists of three parts.
In comments to TVLine following the Shrinking season 2 finale, the creator confirmed that the dramedy does not necessarily have to end with season 3. Lawrence, who created the series with Segel and Brett Goldstein, said that as long as Apple wants to do more, then they'll come up with a new story:

As wonderful as Paul (Harrison Ford) and the rest of Shrinking's characters are, Derek (Ted McGinley) is the best character in the Apple TV+ series. McGinley was not a series regular in Shrinking season 1, but was promoted for season 2. As the husband of Liz (Christa Miller), Derek initially plays more of a supporting role, and primarily appears to add further comedy. Throughout season 1, Derek gradually becomes more of a fixture in the social dynamics among Shrinking's cast of characters.
By the end of Shrinking season 1, Derek manages to become an usher at Brian (Michael Urie) and Charlie's (Devin Kawaoka) wedding and loves every minute of it. Derek gets a more substantial role in season 2, especially now that he is retired and has an abundance of free time on his hands. His increased presence in the series creates new challenges, particularly concerning his marriage with Liz, but Derek still remains Shrinking's best character.

While he may be known for playing therapist Jimmy Laird on Apple TV+’s Shrinking, for many of a certain generation, actor Jason Segel will be known as the stoner drummer from the cult classic TV series Freaks and Geeks. Entertainment Weekly reports Segel is now opening up about what he thinks may have happened to his character, and it’s not great.
In NBC's Freaks and Geeks, set in Chippewa, Michigan, in 1980-81, Segel played high schooler Nick Andopolis. His character was known for loving Zeppelin and smoking weed with his buddies Daniel Desario (James Franco) and Ken Miller (Seth Rogen). Freaks and Geeks also starred Linda Cardellini, John Francis Daley, Samm Levine, Martin Starr, and Busy Philipps. In an interview with GQ, Segel said he thought Nick went off to war and met his demise, which doesn’t seem all that far-fetched, given that his character’s...

Christa Miller and Bill Lawrence celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this year, but not even a quarter-century of marriage affords Miller with spoilers about Shrinking.
“I’m not really privy to anything other than the basics,” Miller tells Gold Derby. So while the actress knew the broad strokes of what Lawrence and Shrinking co-creators Jason Segel and Brett Goldstein had in mind for her character, Liz, for Season 2, she was left stunned by the details. Mainly, a drifting Liz – left with an empty nest after having raised three sons – would reconnect with an old boyfriend and share a clandestine kiss.
“I was like, ‘Hey, that sounds fun, but also scary,’” Miller says, adding she felt it would be a situation where the fans of the show would give her some “sh–” for straying, even briefly, from her supportive husband Derek, played by Ted McGinley.
“Ted McGinley won’t even speak about it still,...

Shrinking is grounded by three therapists — Jason Segel’s Jimmy, Jessica Williams’ Gaby and Harrison Ford’s Paul. Jimmy’s neighbors Liz (Christa Miller) and Derek (Ted McGinley) round out the cast in addition to Lukita Maxwell’s Alice, Luke Tennie’s Sean and Michael Urie’s Brian.
Several guest stars have recurring roles across the two seasons of the Apple TV+ comedy series, and Season 2 has welcomed co-creator to the fold in front of the camera as a new character.
For the full cast of Shrinking, which was just renewed for a Season 3 after the premiere of Season 2, read on.

The cast of Apple TV+’s hit comedy series Shrinking gathered in Hollywood for a packed Deadline x Apple TV+ Shrinking FYC Event to discuss why the show has hit a nerve, and is even getting better in Season 2.
Jason Segel and Brett Goldstein, who also executive produce and are co-creators of the show (along with Bill Lawrence), joined a panel for SAG-AFTRA members at Harmony Gold that included series co-stars Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Christa Miller, Lukita Maxwell, Luke Tennie and Ted McGinley.
You can watch the conversation here.
Segel started it off by explaining how he got involved behind the scenes as well as getting the role of Jimmy, a therapist who probably has more problems than all of his patients.
‘Well, I got very, very lucky on this one. I had known Bill a little bit, and he had called me a couple years before Shrinking and said,...

Before being cast on “Shrinking,” most people likely knew Jessica Williams from her historic run on “The Daily Show” as the show’s youngest correspondent ever. Or maybe they were aware of Williams’s excellent podcast, “2 Dope Queens.” Or they saw her in the indie romantic comedy “The Incredible Jessica James.” But none of those projects likely prepared Williams’s fans for her nuanced performance on the Apple TV+ comedy series, which allows the actress to lean on her expert comedy skills while also landing emotional dramatic beats in every episode.
“I mostly did this show because I wanted to work with Jason Segel, not knowing what the show was going to be,” Williams tells Gold Derby. “And I wanted to do a show where I could show range because that’s one of the things I admire most about Jason: he can just do it all. So I...
