Update – 6.08am Pt, June 9: Michael Mosley’s wife has released a statement paying tribute to her TV presenter husband after a body was found on the Greek island of Symi.
“I don’t know quite where to begin with this. It’s devastating to have lost Michael, my wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband. We had an incredibly lucky life together,” said Clare Bailey Mosley. “We loved each other very much and were so happy together. I am incredibly proud of our children, their resilience and support over the past days.
“My family and I have been hugely comforted by the outpouring of love from people from around the world. It’s clear that Michael meant a huge amount to so many of you. We’re taking comfort in the fact that he so very nearly made it. He did an incredible climb, took the wrong route and collapsed...

A couple of weeks ago, I interviewed Nathan Gelgud, an artist who has brought a wry comic book charm to the world of cinephilia. It seemed only natural that I should find out more about the art that has influenced him and so I asked him to select his personal top ten favorite movie posters. He was more than up for the challenge and decided to narrow the field to illustrated posters, which makes perfect sense. Here are his ten favorites, in no special order.1. (Above) Us one sheet for Five on the Black Hand Side (Oscar Williams, USA, 1973). Artist: Jack Davis.I love all the accouterments on the main figure—the hat, the cigar, the umbrella, suitcase, those things that go over the shoes. But even better is the way Davis has arranged all the characters around him, the way the jumping guy’s arm joins with the guy...

The revelation came from Editorial Director of the World Congress of Science and Factual Producers (Wcsfp), Alison Leigh, this morning in her presentation .What.s the Buzz?. Over the course of an hour Leigh had Aidc attendees in turns amused, disgusted and shaking their heads as she ran through global trends of factual entertainment, including one humourous section titled .Meanwhile, in Norway.. Trends include presenters who favour a gonzo style of journalism (Michael Mosley.s willingness to infect himself with various parasites for BBC Four.s Infested! Living with Parasites was toted as an example), with another big movement being social experiments. Examples included a worrying revamp of the 1960s Stanford Prison Experiment and another which sees presenter and homosexual Dr Christian Jessen...

Michael Mosley is a name that arguably not many people would know outside of BBC Four or Horizon fans. Which is a shame, because the journalist and presenter has been one of the finest documentary-makers for many years.
The Indian-born producer is back for his latest Horizon special tonight (August 18), so if you have yet to tune in to one of his many scientific journeys, this would be a great time to start.
After producing a number of science programmes for the BBC, including Robert Winston's The Human Face and Jeremy Clarkson's Inventions that Changed the World, Mosley stepped in front of the camera for BBC Four's excellent Medical Mavericks in 2008.
The four-part series delved into the history of the scientists and doctors who went to great lengths to further the world, often in rather grotesque ways.
This has become the benchmark for Mosley's programmes. His shows focus on science,...

The 2014 Brit Awards slumped to one of its lowest-rated broadcasts on ITV last night, according to overnight data.
Without taking +1 into consideration, the average rating dropped by over 2.5 million viewers from last year's 10-year high, attracting 4.20m (18.4%) from 8pm.
A further 359k (1.8%) tuned in on +1, bringing its total to 4.56m. Its previous lowest-rated year was 2006 with 4.6m.
The drop in viewers may be due to the live Champions League coverage of Arsenal's loss to Bayern Munich, which scored 831k (3.6%) on Sky1 and 1.06m (4.7%) on Sky Sports 1.
On BBC One, Pound Shop Wars attracted 3.75m (16.7%) at 7.30pm. Outnumbered dipped to 3.85m (15.9%) at 9pm, followed by a Mrs Brown's Boys repeat with 3.83m (16.3%) at 9.30pm.

Dr Michael Mosley has infected himself with different parasites for a new BBC Four documentary.
He has swallowed tapeworm cysts, placed leeches on his arm and infected himself with lice to see how they affect the human body.
The worms reportedly lived inside his body for several weeks, and they did not make him ill.
His stool samples will now be used by scientists to study the signs of parasitic infection.
Dr Mosley has presented several other medical programme studies, including taking a "truth serum", testing magic mushrooms, and popularising the fasting 5:2 diet.
During the new series, he swallows a "pill camera" to display live pictures on his iPad of the results of the tapeworms.
He said: "When I first saw the worms, I was in an Indian restaurant. I shouted out: 'Blimey! There's a tapeworm in me!' The other diners looked very surprised.

The CW’s fall schedule is interesting to say the least. Supernatural is moving to Tuesday, following The Originals. Historical soap Reign gets the prime post-Vampire Diaries slot while The Carrie Diaries gets exiled to Fridays.
Meanwhile, Warehouse 13 isn’t the only show to get the cancellation/renewal notice. Nikita will also get a final, six-episode season. And now I have “For Now” from Avenue Q stuck in my head.

The thought alone of eating just 500 calories a day is enough to make any woman feel faint. But for two days a week that's exactly what the latest blockbuster diet from Britain recommends. The Fast Diet, coauthored by London-based doctor Michael Mosley and writer Mimi Spencer, outlines a weight-loss plan that limits a woman's daily intake to 500 calories twice aweek (men get 600 calories) but allows dieters to eat whatever they want on the remaining five days. "It's not really fasting. It's just a break from your normal routine," says Mosley, 56, who dropped 20 lbs. in three months on the plan. "It's...

So many season finales have a wedding as a hook, and it appears that "30 Rock" is not immune from this tried and true feature. But as we've come to expect from the sitcom, they have a little bit of a different take on things.
Here's what we learned on Thursday's (May 17) episode:
[Spoiler alert]
Jack (Alec Baldwin) and Avery (Elizabeth Banks): The two are planning to renew their vows now that she's free from North Korea. But things get complicated when competing interests - Scott (Michael Mosley), Avery's mom Diana (Mary Steenburgen) and Kim Jong Il - each look to have their own reasons for stopping the nuptials. In the end, it appears that Jack and Avery may have the best reasons of all.
Hazel (Kristen Schaal) and Kenneth (Jack McBrayer): Hazel is on the verge of homelessness. So Kenneth, being the caring person that he is, decides to help her out.

Photography has helped Laura (Margot Robbie) from the beginning on "Pan Am." It was her striking pictures early in the series that landed her on the cover of Life magazine. But it appears that her love for being in front of the camera will soon get her in trouble.
In an exclusive first look at Sunday's (Jan. 22) episode, those nude photos Laura referred to any number of episodes ago come back to haunt her when they're displayed at an art gallery. While the pictures are quite lovely, Laura never thought they'd go public. So when she sees the entire collection up, Laura delivers the response you'd expect - abject terror.
As for other story lines, Colette (Karine Vanasse) looks to get over Dean (Mike Vogel) by befriending a mysterious male passenger. Maggie (Christina Ricci), never one to be shy about her opinions, tells Ted (Michael Mosley) she has concerns about...

He gives her his gun and tells her what happened before passing out. At the hospital, he wakes to find Provenza (Gw Bailey) at his bedside with a balloon, stating "It's a girl." That's all they had, how did I know that's what he'd say? Brenda (Kyra Sedgwick) is also there. Raydor tells Flynn if he can describe his attacker and ID him, then she'll take on the case, but if he can't then Major Crimes can investigate. He says he can't and when she leaves he says he knows what his attacker looked like. He...

Remember when flying was fun? Before your lip stick had to go in a plastic bag and your high heels had to go through X-Ray. When it was all glamorous, with handsome pilots and gorgeous air hostess? When you could still smoke in the cabin, and drink as many cocktails as you wanted while on your way to some exotic location? Well that’s the world of Pan Am, ABC’s new show, taking us back to the good ole days of air travel in the 60’s.

A New British movie is to tell the story of the ancient cataclysm that's believed to be the basis for the Atlantis legend.
The BBC has announced the TV film, to be called Atlantis and directed by Primeval's Tony Mitchell, will "tell the dramatic story of the greatest natural disaster to shake the ancient world, a disaster that triggered the downfall of a civilisation and spawned a legend."
The film will be made using the same techniques as Zack Snyder's Spartan war epic 300 and will be accompanied by a documentary looking at the historical evidence.
Around 1620 BC a gigantic volcano in the Aegean Sea stirred from its 19,000-year slumber.
The eruption tore apart the island of Thera, producing massive tsunamis that flooded the nearby island of Crete, the centre of Europe's first great civilisation - the Minoans.
This apocalyptic event, many experts now believe, provided the inspiration for the legend of Atlantis.

In Bill Lawrence's interview with our own Joel Keller, he said: "There's going to be a new young lady with a voice over and she's either going to be funny and talented and great, or the show's gonna crater."
Well, now we know who that young lady is and I'm sure Kerry Bishe (Virtuality) will be thrilled to find out that Lawrence is hinging the entire success of Scrubs 2.0 on her. No pressure! She joins Dave Franco, cast earlier this week, and Michael Mosley to complete the new faces of Scrubs (Med School?).
