Floridians take their horror seriously, gladly braving the sweltering June weather for the 9th annual Tampa Bay Screams horror convention last weekend in Pinellas Park, Fl. The event turned the modest Pinellas Park Performing Art Center into a buzzing den of frightful fanatics browsing eclectic collections, meeting stars, and discussing their beloved horror scene.
This convention was a great display of passionate, resilient, horror fans making their twisted ideas a reality. The heat and sporadic thunderstorms made the space feel all the more like a sanctuary for the weird and weary. After a few tumultuous years for the state of the arts in Florida, many event attendees were relieved to see a revival of sorts at Tampa Bay Screams.
“The Tampa Bay Screams June 2024 edition had a lot to live up to from what founder Sean Donohue had established,” said Tampa Bay Screams owner and organizer Andy L. “A lot...

For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit Showtime’s “Masters of Horror,” which was created by Mick Garris and aired for two seasons between 2005 and 2007.
It seemed like a horror fan’s wet dream: a horror anthology series with some of the greatest horror filmmakers of all time lensing short format horror films for premium cable. Although horror icons had teamed in the past to bring us series like “Tales from the Darkside” and “Tales from the Crypt,” there wasn’t a modern series that brought them all together to have a chance to tell their stories in the anthology format. “Masters of Horror” seemed like a prime opportunity to re-invent the waning anthology horror format, and while it didn’t quite re-invent the wheel as planned, it brought with it a lot of great content from some bonafide horror icons.

Stars: Christen Sharice, Haley Leary, Eric Roberts, Erin Brown, Keith Brooks, Victor Rivera, Crystal Cleveland, Jennifer Pearl, Davi Crimmins | Written by Torey Haas | Directed by Tony Reames
Director Tony Reames opens his feature debut, Spookt, with a simple scene, as a boy walks home alone while listening to music through his headphones. The walk is interrupted by a supernatural occurrence, startling the boy as he passes a spooky house. Known as the Gibson house, it is part of local folklore whose bloodied history still frightens locals.
Voice-over gets out the necessary information with accompanying footage, highlighting how ten-year-old Flora Blu Giddens disappeared 6 years earlier after walking into the Gibson house on a dare. It was previously owned by once-respected surgeon and Greenville Butcher, Dr. Bram Byler (Eric Roberts). Delivering this info dump is skeptical YouTuber, Rachel (Christen Sharice), who spends her time debunking supernatural events and has her sights set on the Gibson house next.

Exclusive Interview: Manny Serrano (Theta States)
What was the first film that you saw that made you want to get into filmmaking and how did you go from film fan to filmmaker?
I can’t for sure nail down a specific film that made me want to be a filmmaker. When I was young, my father got us cable TV for the boxing PPV’s and then for HBO. We had a few dozen Ced’s, which led to a fairly wide bookshelf with a couple hundred VHS tapes, plus with a video store right down the street I would rent movies myself on the walk home from school. Plus, my brother and I must have gone to the movies with my mother at least once a month, maybe more. I read Fangoria and Gorezone regularly as a kid, and bought Tales From The Crypt Comics, I did book reports on movie novelizations.

Dead by Midnight (Y2Kill) is the unexpected follow-up to Dead by Midnight (11pm Central). And I say unexpected because despite being a fun collection of stories, it pretty much stayed under everyone’s radar. But enough people did see it that a second film got greenlighted, and with a big enough budget to include a couple of genre heavyweights.
The film opens with The Mistress of Midnight sitting around hell, googling for reviews of the first film and unleashing her wrath on those who didn’t give it a thumbs up.
From here we leap to The Temptress introducing the first segment...

Of all the voices in horror that have sprung up in the 2000s, Edward “Lucky” McKee is probably my favorite. His films are so uniquely his own in the way that they combine strong character work, dreamlike visuals, dark humor, pop music, and a specific attention to female protagonists and relationships; it’s an alchemy that’s hard to pinpoint, but which has a direct line to my brain and affects me in the way no one else’s work does. Both May and The Woman are, in my opinion, two of the best horror movies of the last 20 years and films no one else could have made. The same can be said of “Sick Girl,” his entry for Season 1 of Masters of Horror. While he’s the greenest of all the Masters thus far, his episode is also the purest extension of an authorial voice in the whole series.

A 14-year-old from Michigan stopped traffic to save a cat that was thrown from a moving car.
It happened on Sunday, when Gavin Orlowski was driving on I-196 with his mother Erin Brown in Grand Rapids, according to Wzzm 13, which reported the story.
“I hear my mom … she’s driving, and I’m in the passenger seat and she’s like ,” Orlowski told the station. “There’s a cat being thrown out a window, running all around the street because the van in front of us just threw it out.”
That prompted the teen to jump into action. “I was just thinking,...

They said it couldn’t be done. A fifth year of 31 Days of Horror? 31 more terror, gore and shower scene-filled movies worth highlighting? But Rejects always say die and never back away from a challenge, so we’ve rounded up the horror fans among us and put together another month’s worth of genre fun. Enjoy! Synopsis When a low budget horror production company cuts loose their star actress Rebecca Raven (Misty Mundae) in the hopes of upgrading to a larger chested model, the frustrated thespian takes some time off at a haunted estate. Meanwhile, the two bumbling studio heads dig through cheap independent horror flicks looking for blood, sex, and a new actress. Killer Scene Because of the segmented nature of the flick, it’s easier to isolate a segment than a scene that really shines. Zombie This deals with the “real world” where Rebecca Raven funnily fights off a zombie with a chainsaw, but...

Being a film reviewer sounds like a pretty sweet deal. People send you free movies! How awesome is that? But for every one good film, there are five stinkers you have to sit through and then write about. That's a brutal ratio if you think about it. You watch a lot of god-awful flicks, and if you do this long enough, you start to realize that not all bad movies are created equal. Some movies are just bad. Some are so bad they're good. And some are bad, but in an interesting way. Into this last category falls director Fabrice Lambot's 2008 flick, Dying God.
Dying God is a crime story with supernatural elements. Sean Fallon (James Horan) is a totally corrupt, alcoholic police detective.

Jason Paul Collum is the genre director of several films and was featured as Bachelor of the Month in Instinct magazine. He is mentored by legendary scream queen Brinke Stevens who starred in two of his more popular efforts October Moon and its sequel November Son. Both of these films were refreshingly different films in the genre as they were gay psychological horror thrillers. We had the chance to ask him a few questions about his career and these films. Here is what he had to say:
For horror fans who may be unfamiliar with you, who is Jason Paul Collum and what is he all about?
I'm a guy with my hands in a lot of pots. I write, direct, produce and very occasionally act (a loose term) in mostly low-budget, independent films. I've worked on projects with budgets as low as $500 and as high as $150,000. I even worked...

The great month of October is nearly upon us and with every general store stocked with candy corn, eye ball jaw breakers and gummi spiders, their will also be shelves filled with a vampire issue of Playboy. That's right folks, you'll think you're watching Misty Mundae's Crimson Tide after picking up this issue. It's filled with lustful vampire nudity, vampire articles, and most likely, and these would be my favorite, the vampire cartoons. The Undead she-bloodsuckers are back and lets keep them kicking. It has been vampire mania ever since Twilight made an appearance on the big screen and spawning television shows such as True Blood (which rocks by the way) and now Vampire Diaries.

Even though Dish Network is no longer home to Monsters HD, it's still alive and well on the Net (and Cablevision), as evidenced by the press release we received today. This Thanksgiving Monsters HD invites you to celebrate with a zombie marathon!
On top of the undead thrills the network typically runs during its “Thanksgiving Day of the Dead", this year they are offering the online debuts of George A. Romero's classic Day of the Dead along with Robert Kurtzman's totally over-the-top but thoroughly entertaining The Rage (review), which stars genre faves Andrew Divoff (pictured), Erin Brown, and Reggie Bannister. In other words, while everyone else is gobbling turkey, horror fans can sink their teeth into “the other white meat” with these tasty zombie offerings, premiering on November 27.
For more info and to see what the heck Monsters HD has been up to since getting disappointingly booted off satellite,...

Anchor Bay nabs rights for 'Walled,' 'Lost'
NEW YORK -- Anchor Bay Entertainment has picked up rights to two thrill-filled novel adaptations: Walled In, from the Stephen King of France Serge Brossolo, and The Lost, from horror writer Jack Ketchum.
The distributor picked up U.S. rights to Gilles Pacquet-Brenner's psychological thriller Walled In, which stars Mischa Barton as a demolotion company exec who finds disturbing things are unearthed when an old building is razed. Deborah Kara Unger and Cameron Bright also star in the film, based on Brossolo's novel Les Emmures.
Anchor Bay also picked up North American rights to Chris Sivertson's Lost, based on Ketchum's novel, which follows the trail of a suburban serial killer (Marc Senter). Michael Bowen, Dee-Wallace Stone, Ed Lauter, Megan Henning and Erin Brown also star. The film will hit theaters in New York and Los Angeles later this month, followed by a DVD release.
Walled In is the first feature from Leomax Entertainment. The outfit's genre label Indigomotion will theatrically distribute the film later in the year in conjunction with Anchor Bay.
