Born and raised in Malibu, Palmieri began shooting short films on the beach and in the Santa Monica mountains as a kid with his friends using his older brother's Kodak super 8 camera. Palmieri studied filmmaking in college and began his entertainment career at MGM where he participated in the development and production of dozens of films, most notably THELMA & LOUISE (budget: $16m; WBO: $91m), which won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay as well as receiving Academy Award nominations for Best Director, Best Actress for both of the lead actresses, Best Cinematography and Best Editing. After leaving MGM, Palmieri was nominated for an Academy Award and won numerous film festivals for directing, producing, and co-writing a live-action short film entitled "Cruise Control." Palmieri executive produced Sundance and Cannes award winning feature film MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE and produced Sundance nominated SIMON KILLER and Cannes nominated THE LAST FACE. Palmieri attended Phillips Academy Andover, Stanford University and Harvard Business School.
