In the politically volatile landscape of 1990s Nigeria, “Hijack ’93” unfolds as a theatrical retelling of a real-life aerial standoff that garnered national attention. The film revolves around four young Nigerian men who hijack a Nigerian Airways flight from Lagos, transforming an everyday journey into a high-stakes political statement against military government.

These young hijackers, driven by a great desire for democratic change, board the plane with a bold plan: push the aircraft to Germany while demanding the reinstatement of the democratically elected president. Their objective, led by a mystery individual known only as the “Teacher,” soon escalates from a deliberate protest to a chaotic and unpredictable conflict.

When the plane is forced to land in Niger, the hijacking turns into a tense three-day international crisis. With limited gasoline, rising tensions, and increasing desperation, the young men find themselves caught between their revolutionary goals and the harsh realities of their circumstances.

Directed by Robert Peters, Hijack ’93 is based on the real-life events where four teenagers hijacked a plane of Nigerian Airways. These boys were not criminals but merely victims of their own circumstances. The corrupt regime had pushed them to their limit, and they didn’t have an option other than to do something as extreme as hijacking a flight in order to make the authorities listen to their demands. Supernatural horror indie box office hit Nefarious is finally available & streaming on Amazon Prime (free with subscription).

Written and directed by Cary Solomon and Chuck Konzelman, the film stars Sean Patrick Flanery as Nefarious, Jordan Belfi as Doctor James Martin, and the supporting cast includes Tom Ohmer, Stelio Savante, Cameron Arnett, Eric Hanson, James Healy Jr., and Robert Peters.

Pat Reidy joined a march and rally for striking actors Thursday in Chicago, holding a sign that featured a copy of a seven-cent residual check he received. Above and below the image he wrote, “Strike!!! Because this suuucks.”

The paltry check, and another one for eight cents, came from Reidy’s work on Max’s South Side, where he appeared in five episodes over three seasons. “It cost them more to mail it to me,” Reidy told The Hollywood Reporter. “We went to the negotiating table in good faith and ended up having to come here and sweat our asses off in the Chicago heat just to get people to hear us. … We have to fight every step of the way. It’s beyond frustrating to me.”

Fire City: Interpreter of Signs is an upcoming demon fantasy thriller set against the noir backdrop of a shadowy atmospheric world, where demons live among humans who are blind to what they really are.

To the humans who live unwittingly alongside him in a derelict tenement building, Vine is just the drug dealer at the end of the hall. After Vine’s flow of addicts shuts off unexpectedly and apparently for no reason, Vine consults Cornelia, an interpreter of signs. She is a fortune teller in the demon world and an enigma even Vine can’t quite figure out.

We got a chance to catch up with Danielle Chuchran, the young actress who plays Cornelia, during our recent set visit for the film.

The trailer for the directorial debut of Academy Award-winning special effects designer Tom Woodruff, Jr., a supernatural thriller called Fire City: The Interpreter of Signs, is finally here and the practical effects are nothing short of badass! Dig it!

The film centers around a fragile balance that exists between humankind and the demons who secretly live among them and the crisis for all when this balance is broken. Mary-Margaret Humes, Harry Shum Jr., Danielle Chuchran, Kristin Minter, Matt Winston, Eric Edwards, Tobias Jelinek, and Robert Peters star.

Shum plays an abusive alcoholic boyfriend who suddenly transforms into a caring and loving person, along with the rest of the humans in his seedy tenement building. Dependent on human misery for survival, the demons in the building begin to starve.

Writer-producers Brian Lubocki and Michael Hayes successfully funded a Kickstarter campaign for the film in August 2013 and will go into production this month.

After a career spent spin-kicking his way through the action movie genre, Jean-Claude Van Damme infiltrates a much different world with Welcome to the Jungle, taking on his first comedic role. We already showed you the first trailer last month, but today, Cinedigm has released a red band trailer, full of R-rated language. It looks like Jean-Claude Van Damme is embracing his inner goof in his latest, Rob Meltzer’s “Welcome to the Jungle”, which also happens to star Megan Boone, the female lead in NBC’s excellent “The Blacklist”. Other than that, well, there’s the Muscles from Brussels totally goofing off, and the film looks very fun, if kind of pointless. Then again, it is a comedy, and aren’t they all inherently pointless?
